  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Church of England has a problem with the Lord’s Prayer

At a General Synod of the Church of England, the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, has said that the first two words of the Lord’s Prayer are “problematic.” The Lord’s Prayer opens with the words “Our Father.” This is apparently too patriarchal and gives too much credit to men.

Archbishop Cottrell has some supporters for his stand.

<< Rev Christina Rees CBE, a former General Synod member, founder member of the Archbishops’ Council, agreed that calling God ‘father’ was "hugely problematic". >> (The Guardian)

The Church of England only has two Archbishops, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and the Archbishop of York. Stephen Cottrell is number two in the C of E hierarchy.

Personally, I am baffled that anyone would try to rewrite the words of Jesus recorded in the Gospels. Jesus knew what He was doing, and we should follow the Gospels.

A rather neutral article in The Guardian:
Lord’s Prayer opening may be ‘problematic’, says archbishop

A more critical article:
Outrage as Church of England Archbishop claims saying 'Our Father' is 'problematic'

Was Noah's flood global?

Genesis 6:
20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.

Was Noah's flood global?

No, according to Barnes:
For the sake of Noah, the animal species also shall be preserved, "two of each, male and female." They are to come in pairs for propagation. The fowl, the cattle, the creeping thing or smaller animals, are to come. From this it appears that the wild animals are not included among the inmates of the ark. ... As the deluge was universal only in respect to the human race, it was not necessary to include any animals but those that were near man, and within the range of the overwhelming waters. Fodder and other provisions for a year have to be laid in.

Did Noah have marsupial kangaroos in the ark?

No, according to Barnes, it was not a worldwide flood but it looked like one to Noah. As far as Noah could tell, his world died. For all intents and purposes of the redemption story, it was a catastrophic/global event: all humans died except Noah's family. That's the point.

National Center for Science Education gives more detailed calculations:
Because of the curvature of the earth, the horizon drops from where the viewer is standing. However, the drop is proportional to the square of the distance between the viewer and an object on the horizon (Young nd). From these relationships, it can be seen that a tribal chief (or Noah) standing on the deck of a large boat (Ark), perhaps 7.8 meters above the water, would not be able to see the tops of any hills as high as 15 m from as little as 24 km away across flood plains covered with water because the curvature of the earth prevents it (See the Appendix for examples of calculations). Most hills in this region that are as much as 15 m high are more than 95 km away from the river levees. Therefore, the survivors of the Flood could see only water in all directions while they were floating down the Tigris River and over the flood plains. Many of these hills would also be partly covered with water which would make their tops project less above the water level, and therefore, the curvature of the earth would make them disappear from the line of sight in even a shorter distance than 24 km.

There is also a parallel Babylonian Story of the Flood written in about 1750 BC. Both stories called for a worldwide flood to destroy mankind. Even though the flood wasn't global, all humans in the world were killed except Noah's family.

How can I decorate my apartment entrance for Jesus

I want suggestions about how to decorate my apartment entrance for Jesus. I’m thinking maybe a doormat with the name of Jesus and something that hangs a decoration displayed on the center of the door. I have restrictions on my phone where I can’t search Google or Amazon so I thought I would ask your thoughts and if you don’t mind searching for me.

You will receive the gift OF the Holy Spirit: Genitive of identification

Acts 2:
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Genetive of source: gift from the Holy Spirit.
Genitive of identification: the Holy Spirit himself is the gift.

Which meaning applies here?

This is not dative but a genitive case of possession or genitive of identification. It refers to the Holy Spirit per se as a gift to the one being baptized.

A more convincing example of genitive of identification is Galatians 3:
14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

We are to receive the Holy Spirit Himself as promised.

Genitive can be used as a genitive of source. Here, it is used as a genitive of identification. Acts 10 confirms this:
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles.

Salvation by faith alone is NOT the gospel.

This may come as a shock since I'm a Reformed Evangelical Christian (A member of the PCA) and most Evangelicals will condemn the Catholic Church or other historical churches that reject the Biblical claim of salvation by faith alone but yet, I don't agree with this analogy.

Like all Protestants I do agree that Salvation is by faith alone, by God's grace alone, to the glory of God alone.

However I do reject Evangelical Protestants (especially Evangelical and Reformed Baptists believe this) who claim that denominations that claim that the gospel is by faith alone and ANY other church that denies this denies the gospel and is therefore cursed. When Paul said that those who preach a different gospel are cursed what gospel did the Apostles teach? It wasn't that salvation was by faith alone. It was that Jesus was fully man and fully God. It was that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again on the 3rd day according to the scriptures. It was that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were all God. Basically the gospel can be found in the Nicene creed. Those churches that adhere to the Nicene creed are in fact, true churches. Those who reject the Nicene creed though, are NOT true churches and THOSE are the heretical, accursed, and damned churches. You know, like the Jehovahs witnesses, Mormons, Muslims...etc. NOT the Catholic Church or other historical churches from it.

I mean, think about it. The Protestant idea of faith alone and predestination started with a Catholic Theologian named St. Augustine. In fact, much of Calvinists agree with Augustines work when Augustine was in fact Catholic.

I mean, to those who believe that all churches who don't adhere to the doctrine of faith alone my Reformed Evangelical brothers answer me this. If nobody was saved from after the Apostles died until Luther was born how can God save more people greater than the stars in the sky? That's like the main thing we Calvinist Evagelicals adhere to is that God promised Abraham countless descendants. I mean, we're talking nearly 1,500 years of missed history here from the extinction of the apostles to Martin Luther. What these Evangelical Baptists are saying is that NOBODY during that nearly 1,500 year period was saved. Because, nobody knew about the doctrine of Faith alone back then. Luther was the one that started it and while it is Biblical, it's NOT the gospel.

Attention turns to legacy admissions after affirmative action ruling

The target on the back of university legacy admissions grew larger after the Supreme Court ruled against the use of race-conscious admissions.

Every year, thousands of students are able to get into top schools through their ties to family alumni or wealthy donors, a practice that largely favors applicants who are rich and white.

After the Supreme Court ruled institutions cannot use race as a factor in the admissions process, calls from both Democrats and Republicans went out to end legacy admissions.

“I think the question is how do you continue to create a culture where education is the goal for every single part of our community?” Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), who is running for president, said. “One of the things that Harvard could do to make that even better is to eliminate any legacy programs where they have preferential treatment for legacy kids, not allow for the professors — their kids to come to Harvard as well.”

Scott also called for admissions “based on academic scores.”

White House narrative re: cocaine found debunked

According to Fox News, a Fox press pool report negates White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s claim that the Biden family was not present at the White House the days prior to the West Wing cocaine controversy. The outlet reports that Biden was in the Roosevelt Room on the Friday before leaving for Camp David. He didn’t depart the White House until 6:34 p.m. When he left, First Lady Jill Biden, Hunter Biden and Hunter’s son Beau Biden were with him.

Prayer request (and also an odd question)

I had to ban a member of my online Bible study recently. The person is a hypercalvinist. There's one more person in the server who is consistently attacking me, calling me a coward, saying I'm not acting like a pastor, and issuing half hearted apologies as a result of the ban. For the past 2 years I feel as if I was slowly being indoctrinated into hypercalvinism by these 2 people. This has led me to this question: is calvinism biblical? Please pray for me and any guidance would be appreciated because this entire situation has exhausted me mentally.

The Indwelling-Gift of the Holy Spirit

The Gift of the Holy Spirit also referred to as the baptism with/in/by the Holy Spirit, was understood as an event after water baptism throughout Church History up to the Reformation. It was considered the time the Holy Spirit indwells a believer. During the Reformation, a novel view emerged that taught that a person receives the indwelling of the Holy Spirit at regeneration (Calvin) or when a person is water-baptized (Luther). Most evangelicals today affirm the Calvinist position on this matter. Lutherans and the Church of Christ hold that one receives the Gift of the Holy Spirit automatically at water baptism. Most classical Pentecostals, coming out of the evangelical stream of Christianity, created a partial-reception idea foreign to Reformation theology, Historical Theology, and the Bible. They were the first to separate the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the Gift of the Holy Spirit. It appears that in their mind, they wanted to remain in the Evangelical camp while acknowledging that a post-conversion event takes place throughout the book of Acts.

The Biblical position and the Historical position agree. The Gift of the Holy Spirit and the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit are the same event but are only received after coming to faith first.

Missing Teen Girl found in Camp Pendleton barracks was raped by Marine, family alleges

A girl was found at Camp Pendleton more than two weeks after she had been reported missing, according to her family, who alleges she was raped by a Marine on the military base north of San Diego.

A photograph posted to Instagram by the account notinregz, which shares content submitted by military personnel, shows an unidentified Marine in handcuffs being escorted by military police officers. The post included a photo of what it said was a handwritten logbook from Camp Pendleton that says military personnel found a 13-year-old girl in the barracks June 28. The Times could not verify the authenticity of the logbook page.

A Marine with Combat Logistics Battalion 5 was taken into custody for questioning by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service the day the girl was found, 1st Marine Logistics Group spokesperson Capt. Charles Palmer confirmed.

Pretty sickening if the appearances aren't deceiving.

Can God ever become mortal?

Ok so I was watching a Sproul teaching series yesterday and RC was talking about Genesis chapter 15 when God made all of his promises to Abraham and Abraham believed God up to a point. He asked God how can he know for sure in verse 8 of Genesis 15. And God's response to him was "bring me a bunch of Animals" and Abraham did and God cut them in two and you know the rest of the story. God swears on the carcasses of the animals and goes in between them basically I cannot swear on anything greater than me. I can't swear on the heavens because I made them or on anything else because God made everything.

So God decides to swear on himself in verses 17 to 18. Sproul was saying that when God swore on himself he said that "if I ever lie to you I give up my diety, I give up my immortal life to become mortal."

This made me wonder CAN God ever lose his diety? Can he ever become mortal if God accidentally told a lie or broke promise?

Now don't get ne wrong, God is good and perfect and would never tell a lie. He hates liars and will one day punish all liars but, my question is can God really lose his diety if he ever committed even one sin? Obviously his diety means that this can never happen but that isn't my question. My question is, can God ever become mortal IF he committed a sin?

This is not a surprise to conservatives.

Biblical Proof of God's Creation by One Single Verse

The Biblical proof is in Hebrews 11, the Faith chapter.

Heb 11:1-3
11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God,
so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
KJV

That part in red above is what modern science calls the 'first law of thermodynamics' and 'law of the conservation of matter'.

That law says that material matter cannot be created nor destroyed, but only change its form or state (solid, liquid, gas, vapor). Man's science, even today, still has had to admit any attempt to destroy matter simply causes its form or state to change.

So how did the material universe come into being? God showed us via that Hebrews 11:3 verse, which is very, very profound, once one understands that part in red. That part in red above means material matter did NOT... create itself. Matter did not create matter, and those laws of thermodynamics confirms this.

That means...

1. Something OUTSIDE the realm of the material universe had to have created material matter. That something those in Christ call The Godhead of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. And Apostle John in John 4:24 said that "God is a Spirit". That means The Godhead is NOT made up of material matter!

2. Because... God is a Spirit, as written, it means there exists another dimension of existence that is NON-MATERIAL, not made of matter, but made up of Spirit.

3. This is how the material universe of matter came into existence by GOD's Spirit. Like that above Hebrews verse says, by The Word of GOD the universe came into existence.

4. Thus the nature of the material universe (i.e., matter) PROVES the existence of GOD.

Whoa there...

Hey...

Life will pass in a flash.

Galations 5:15
be careful how you walk, not as unwise people but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Are you walking in "The Way" ?

Ephesians 2:10
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Jesus has prepared specific works for you to do.

Life is not a playground in which you can do what you fancy.

Fulfilment comes from seeking His specific direction for your life and walking in it.

That is where the peace is, that is where the meaning is, celebrating specific appointed good works with Him.

Then heaven will come to earth as His Will and yours match.

Don't miss out...

Seek Him for clarity concerning purpose - fast if needed - make it you number one priority to see The Way and walk where He is.

In His Love.

Will my Methodist-church attending long-time friends support us when the Persecution comes?

A Christian couple like us decided when they retired to attend their local church. In both cases this is a Methodist church. None of us are full-blown Methodists by persuasion but we are strong believers in worshipping and serving locally. We got together recently and started talking about the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training that is coming for all who serve in an official role. This led onto the meeting our church will soon have about licensing for same-sex marriage. Our friends said they had had theirs and they and their church voted in favour. We said we and our church were likely to vote against. We have already lost two leaders concerning the EDI material and theology.
I looked at the husband and this sad thought came that if and when pressure came on us, politically, economically or clerically because of our bigotry (the Romans called the early Christians anti-humanity), I doubted whether whether he would sacrifice much to protect us or even stand up for us.
I hope that the World allows us to live with difference of Opinion without penalty.

think I've finally figured this out..

hello I'm emily, a christian all my life. I grew up with a mother that didn't believe, but I held on to my faith and that's the way it's going to stay

I was abused by her as a child, and thankfully I am out of that situation. I do still have many physical and emotional scars I live with daily, but you can't have an abusive childhood and get off lightly

I recently started going to church again, after my old pastor passed away from covid. I managed to find a new one, and it's actually all women so it's very nice. there are a lot of nice people there and new people come often

Archbishop of York - Lord's Prayer is problematic because of the word Father

I really don't know why he is still a Christian at this point. Since he clearly don't think that our Lord Jesus made the right decision in teaching us how to pray. The literal personification of God's trinity.

This is so backwards in his teachings. Father as a word is seen as problematic because of the shortfall of earthly fathers. Instead of the word Father taking the high ground by associating with the ideal divine patriarch, the "bishop" rather sink into the grime and associate it the earthly failing.

So what now? Are Anglicans to self censor in communal prayers? To never utter the word Father out of fear that it would offend people who haven't had a good experience with their fathers?

To me it is more importantly so that the word Father be use for these people. To show them that what true Fatherhood is - how God Himself intended.

But hey that's just my thoughts as a Lutheran. Not that we Lutherans are any more immune to secular progressive intrusion into our churches.

False Prophets and the Righteous

False Prophets and The Righteous

I believe the Lord wants me to look at this subject of “false prophets” according to the Scriptures, for there can be many different ideas on what constitutes a false prophet or a false prophecy. And I am going to begin with 2 Peter 2:1-22 and how they are described there:

1. They secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
2. Many people follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.
3. In their greed they will exploit you with false words.
4. Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones.
5. They are like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant.
6. They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you.
7. They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children.
8. Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray.
9. They have followed the way of Balaam, who loved gain from wrongdoing.
10 They speak loud boasts of folly. They entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error.
11 They promise them freedom but they themselves are slaves of corruption.
12 For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.
13 “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”

Then in Matthew 7:15-20; Matthew 24:11,24; Luke 6:26:

1. They come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
2. You will recognize them by their fruits. And every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.
3. Many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.
4. False christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
5. “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.” False prophets are usually well liked.

Then in Jude 1 we have a description similar to 2 Peter 2 of ungodly men:

1. They pervert the grace of God into sensuality and deny Jesus Christ, (which can be in actions and words, or in actions only).
2. They defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme angels.
3. They blaspheme what they don’t understand, and they are like unreasoning animals, and they are destroyed by their instincts.
4. They walk in the way of Cain who murdered his brother because his own deeds were evil and his brother’s deeds were righteous.
5. They abandon themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error who was leading people into sexual sin and idolatry.
6. They are shepherds feeding only themselves.
7. They are wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame, wandering stars, for whom utter darkness has been reserved.
8. They are the ungodly who commit ungodly deeds.
9. They are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires.
10 They are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.
11 They are scoffers following their own ungodly passions.
12 They cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.

Now, let’s compare those descriptions to these descriptions of the righteous:

1. They behave in the world with godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom, but by the grace of God.
2. All who desire to live a godly life will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
3. They are being trained of the Spirit of God to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and they are living self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while they wait for our Lord’s return.
4. They, like living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
5. They are not hearers only of God’s word, but they are doers of the Word of God. They are righteous before God.
6. They are not slaves to sin, but they are slaves to God and to his righteousness, who obey the Lord in practice.
7. They walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
8. They put on the new self in Christ Jesus, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
9. They are filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
10 They pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness..
11 They flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
12 “Let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous.”

Oh, to Be Like Thee, Blessed Redeemer

Lyrics by Thomas O. Chisholm, 1897
Music by W. J. Kirkpatrick, 1897

Oh, to be like Thee! blessèd Redeemer,
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.

Oh, to be like Thee! full of compassion,
Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,
Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,
Seeking the wandering sinner to find.

O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit,
Holy and harmless, patient and brave;
Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,
Willing to suffer others to save.

O to be like Thee! while I am pleading,
Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love;
Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,
Fit me for life and Heaven above.

Oh, to be like Thee! Oh, to be like Thee,
Blessèd Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.

Why Did Christ Call Peter Satan?

Matthew 16:
21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer
many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying,
Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!
23 But He turned and said to Peter, Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me,
for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men
.

In that moment, Peter had heard, but refused to acknowledge the truth.
In fact, he opposed the truth. Every believer must stand on and remain steadfast in the truth.

John 8:42-47
Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.

There were some among the believers at Corinth who did not receive the truth regarding the resurrection. They did not know the spirit by which they were speaking. The Father of lies had deceived them. This is to believe in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:12-14 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not risen: And if Christ is not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

Faith requires a believer to be grounded in the truth, which is in Christ and found in His Body.
1 Timothy
2:4 who desires all men to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou may know how thou ought to behave thyself in the house of God,
which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Israeli Prof. Appeals to Netanyahu to ‘Rescue Him from Biden’

Speaking to the Ynet studio on Sunday, Luft's attorney Mordechai Tzivin said: “When there is a political motive, Interpol does not extradite, or when there is a danger to someone’s life. I don't want to say that he is in mortal danger, but he is indeed in great danger.”
Netanyahu has little influence with the Biden administration.

How to treat LGBTQ+?

I think homosexual intercourse is a sin and I do not support the practice of it. I think each believer should follow his own conscience in how to answer this question. Let God's peace guide you. I leave the eternal judgment to God and live in peace with God, myself, and everyone else.

Concerning the issue of transgender, is it a sin?

I don't think the feeling itself is a sin. As for transgender expression or behavior, I don't know. In any case, we are called to glorify God in our lives.

In Toronto, I have attended churches that are LGBTQ+ friendly and hugged gay people. I saw the Pride Parade. I think many of them are nice people. In Toronto, there are quite a few churches that are officially LGBTQ friendly and some are headed by gay pastors.

I sat through sermons delivered by gay pastors multiple times. 95% of the time, it was no different from a sermon delivered by a non-gay pastor. In fact, one church surprised me in that it was my 4th visit before I realized that the pastor was gay! This rainbow church was very family oriented. The majority of the congregation were straight people with kids. They didn't make a special point of it.

Check out this trailer. The full documentary 너에게 가는 길 Coming to You is available on Netflix.

Bottom line, 1 Corinthians 13:
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
