Pope Leo XIV will not Continue Francis’ Legacy

Many are not aware of it, but Pope Leo XIV as a cardinal was at odds with Pope Francis. There were tensions, which obviously stemmed from a sharp difference in attitude toward the Church and world. Cardinal Prevost was anti-communist, anti-LGBT, and against the idea of being absorbed with the world, while Francis constantly surrounded himself with communists and homosexuals and was one with the world. Leo XIV says that our "common home" is heaven while Francis said our "common home" is earth.

A small group of South African refugees arrived in the United States on Monday bearing American flags.

They came to the U.S. after President Donald Trump signed an executive order in February designating them as in need of asylum.

Parents of slain Texas high schooler plead with school district not to allow son's alleged killer to graduate

The parents of a Texas high school football player who was murdered at a track meet last month are pleading with school officials to reconsider their decision to allow their son’s alleged killer to graduate with his class.

Karmelo Anthony, of Frisco, is charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf during an April 2 track meet at Frisco Memorial High School. Days after the stabbing, Anthony was released from jail after a Collin County judge lowered his bond from $1 million to $250,000. Anthony is currently under house arrest.

On Wednesday, Dallas-based advocacy group Next Generation Action Network (NGAN) announced that while Anthony will not participate in graduation activities at Centennial High School, he “will graduate and receive his high school diploma.”

Politics

Some Christians don't get involved in politics and leave the material world concerns to others.
But then on the other side there are those who let their religion inform and guide their political choices.
Then again, there are those who really take advantage of people's religious beliefs to bolster their own power... generating lots of religious sounding language, but for their own purposes.

JD Vance, Marco Rubio to attend Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural Mass at the Vatican

U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, both of whom are Catholic, will attend the inaugural Mass for Pope Leo XIV, the first U.S.-born pope, on Saturday, May 18.

Former head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation James Comey is getting lambasted online after he shared a social post that many people are taking as a "hit" on President Donald Trump's life.
The post included the numbers "8647" etched in the sand at a beach using seashells. "Cool shell formation on my beach walk…" Comey captioned the Thursday post.

Reminds me of Chuck Schumer’s threat against Supreme Court justices. It is time to start arresting these people.

Georgia family says woman declared brain dead but her body kept alive for months under state's 'heartbeat' law; doctors and family have no options

Adriana Smith's been on life support 90+ days with weeks to go in her pregnancy. Her family questions Georgia’s heartbeat law — and why they had no say in her care.

“She’s been breathing through machines for more than 90 days,” Newkirk said. “It’s torture for me. I see my daughter breathing, but she’s not there. And her son—I bring him to see her.”

On Tuesday, Smith was moved to Emory Midtown, which doctors told the family is better equipped for obstetric care.

The plan now is to keep Smith alive until doctors believe the baby can survive outside the womb — likely at 32 weeks gestation.

Because she is brain dead — [the mother's life is not in danger] — her medical team is legally required to maintain life support until the fetus reaches viability.

In most cases in other states, the decision would defer to the mother's wishes or those of her next of kin. This is also under the assumption that it would be difficult for the fetus to make it to viability with the mother's condition, so the family could choose to terminate.

Newkirk said doctors told the family the baby has fluid on the brain and they're not sure how much fluid. They're concerned about his health.

My dad has problems again

Hi, it's been a rollercoaster ride since Sunday afternoon. In a nutshell:
- He fell and broke his hip
- The surgery was successful but the either the pain med (morphine) or the anesthesia (I ask for the name but no one seems to know the answer, weird) caused him to have a seizure after the surgery. It is written in his records that he's allergic to narcotics, so I don't know why they did the morphine
- The seizure caused him to be hooked up to feeding tubes and ventilator
- The doctors overseeing him are worried about him being hooked up on them too long
- This morning, the nurses conducted their daily breathing trials on him and he was able to breathe 4 hours on his own. Not sure if my dad had trouble after 4 hours or if the nurses simply took precautions not to leave him "unattended" for longer than that. I'll work on ascertaining
- I cried thinking he could die, but at the same time it's impossible to live WITH him. Very complicated feelings on my part

I cry looking at him that way, but as I said, I want him to live but I also don't want to live WITH him. It is hard. I didn't sleep well last night at all.
