  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Columbia's Rot on Display as Deported Terrorist Professor Praises Wife Joining Mob

Sami Al-Arian, a former University of South Florida professor who admitted to conspiring to aid the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group in 2006, shared a photo of his spouse at Columbia's West Lawn encampment on X on Friday:

Nahla-Al-Arian-at-Columbia-encampment.jpg

Saying:

"My wife Nahla in solidarity with the brave and very determined Columbia University students," he wrote.

Police said the woman they referenced was not accused of any criminal wrongdoing, but it was not immediately clear how or why she was able to access the encampment. The campus was on lockdown and only open to students and faculty and for limited visits by the media.

Whoever brought her in wanted her to be seen," said Liora Rez, the founder and executive director of StopAntisemitism, a watchdog organization. "It's spreading like wildfire now that a convicted terrorist's spouse was allowed to enjoy a beautiful day in New York on campus, openly, without any consequences, despite the fact that Columbia's administrators swore up and down that only students and faculty were allowed on campus."

Engaged Encounter in LA: Couples learn how to put God before marriage

John_and_Amy_Sabol5-copy-1024x768.jpeg
John and Amy Sabol, who volunteer with Catholic Engaged Encounters retreats, pose with their wedding photo near a poster listing the weekend’s themes. (Theresa Cisneros)

As volunteers for Catholic Engaged Encounter (CEE), John and Amy Sabol have spent the last 28 years helping engaged couples plan for their big day by preparing them for what comes after their big day.
The Sabols, who’ve been married for 50 years, help run CEE weekend retreats where they encourage couples to bring God into their relationship and develop healthy communication habits, as a reminder that a wedding lasts a day, while a marriage lasts a lifetime.

The Sabols said their own marriage was strengthened by sharing their life story with retreat participants and explaining how forgiveness, open communication, and making a conscious decision to love your spouse even in difficult times can lead to a more fulfilling union.

“We always talk about how marriage is work,” said John, “but we also try to tell them that it’s worth it. Being in a good relationship with your partner is worth more than anything else.”

“We’ve learned that we’re kind of best friends as well as a married couple,” Amy added.

The Sabols are part of a global network of priests and married couples who present weekend retreats for CEE, an international Catholic marriage preparation program that grew out of the Marriage Encounter program about 50 years ago.

In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, couples can meet marriage preparation requirements by completing a CEE weekend retreat.

My boyfriend’s mental health situation (not good)

Continuing from here, sort of:

So changing the freeze plugs was just the beginning, we also had to replace the radiator because it leaked after the freeze plug thing was fixed. Then my brother remembered that 4Runners have timing belts and, of course, my boyfriend’s has never been replaced. The Lord is holding that thing together at this point. We don’t have the money to replace it for at least another month.

Unfortunately, my boyfriend is not taking any of this well. He’s been having really bad mental illness episodes which have him losing his voice, breaking down to the point where he’s acting like a child and screaming at people, and threatening to do things to himself, asking me for weapons, etc. He is also wildly misinterpreting things that I’m saying in negative ways, worse than usual. He needs professional psychiatric help urgently.

Please pray for patience and financial provision for both of us as we deal with this incredibly frustrating situation. Also pray that I can find a mental health clinic to take my boyfriend to and actually get him there, and also some relief from the intensity of these episodes. Some of this is par for the course in fighting abusers, but seeing him break down like that is causing me grief.

Anglican Primates enjoy historic meeting with Pope Francis

Don't know if anyone else is following news from the Primates' meeting, but this sounded positive:

"The Pope said: "Only a love that becomes gratuitous service, only the love that Jesus taught and embodies, will bring separated Christians closer to one another. Only that love, which does not appeal to the past in order to remain aloof or to point a finger, only that love which in God's name puts our brothers and sisters before the ironclad defence of our own religious structures, only that love will unite us. First our brothers and sisters, the structures later."

Did Jonah die inside the big fish?

Some thought he did to foreshadow Jesus' death and resurrection.

Jonah 2:

1 Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, 2 saying,
“I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.
Did Jonah die and go to Sheol and pray?

I don't think so. There is a parallel between "the belly of the fish" and "the belly of Sheol". Sheol is a metaphor for the condition inside the belly of the huge fish. It was a near-death experience. Jonah continued to explain the metaphor:

5 The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head
He was in a terrible place, like Sheol. But there was hope:

7 When my life was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.
He didn't die, but he was nearly dead. The experience was like he had died and gone to Sheol. If he had actually died, then prayed, and then got resurrected, that would have been an incredible event in the history of mankind. The Bible would have clearly spelled out the death and resurrection instead of using metaphors.

Matthew 12:

40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Jesus compared his death with Jonah's experience but the focus above was the duration and location. Jesus died; Jonah didn't.

Severe OCD blasphemy

Hi all, I really need your help I suffer of severe OCD to the point that all I think is blasphemy, and everything time I try for example enjoy like having a conversation with someone I feel like I say something/mumbling blasphemous or my mouth open but only to make me feel sad and with shame, Sometimes I think I’ve said the blasphemy to self sabotage me on purpose, however this is not in my heart this is causing me a lot of stress, anxiety and depression. And the ocd threatening me like if you commit blasphemy you will become a homeless, you won’t be able to have a wife or have sex and everybody is going to dislike you because you won’t have any value and you don’t have any worth , or you won’t be able to even speak because you blasphemed. However I spoke with a Pastor in my church and he told me there’s no unforgivable sin but the Bible says this sin will not be forgiven and I received a promised from God through a Pastor when I was around 17 years old before all this happened and the Pastor has a good testimony and is a man of God. Has anyone experience anything like this??

Do you guys think the same that I won’t be able to have enjoy life or have wife or anything like just because of the blasphemy? I honestly don’t think sonand I think it’s the OCD ruining my life. I’ve spent 2 years of my life like that and only 28 years old , I am getting grey hair and losing weight. Because I feel I said the blasphemy on purpose but just to self sabotage myself. I also have severe low self steem because of that .

Russia Showing Off Captured Western Weapons

Russia flaunts Western military hardware captured in war in Ukraine

I'm in Victory Park, Moscow's giant memorial complex dedicated to the Soviet Union's defeat of Nazi Germany. A new open-air exhibition has just opened.

But it has nothing to do with World War Two.

On display is Western military hardware captured by the Russian army in Ukraine.

They are war trophies and Russia has decided to flaunt them.

Among the armour here is a British Army Husky tactical support vehicle which had been donated to Ukraine. Its windscreen is covered in bullet-holes.

Opposite the Husky I can see Western tanks that had been transferred to the Ukrainian military. There's an American Abrams which had been damaged on the battlefield. A German Leopard tank, too.

In fact, there's a long line of German armour. And above it a sign: "History is repeating itself."

The Russians have not invented the wheel here. In the past Ukraine has displayed Russian military hardware that had been captured by the Ukrainian army.

The gospel was preached even to those who are DEAD

1 Peter 3:

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous,
i.e., those who knew God and those who didn't

that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 19 in which he went and proclaimed [aorist indicative] to the spirits in prison, 20a because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared.
What did Peter mean by "spirits in prison"?

Peter continued the explanation in the next chapter, but then he switched to the present tense, 1 Peter 4:

4 With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you.
At this point, Peter addressed people who were alive at his time.

5 but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For this is why the gospel was preached [Aorist Indicative] even to those who are dead, that though judged [Aorist Subjunctive] in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.
When are the preaching and judging performed?

The aorists direct our thoughts to some definite occasion. Time or tense is not always in the past. They are done on the last day of a person's life, corresponding to the last day of the current creation for everyone.

Who are these dead people?

These dead people refer to:

  1. The people who died in Noah's flood long ago.
  2. The deceased patriarchs and the Old Testament saints. (Papists' Limbus).
  3. Those who are alive but spiritually dead (Amplified Bible).
  4. The good Christians who died as martyrs.
  5. A selected (or elected) group of dead people who never heard of the gospel when alive but would believe if they heard it.
  6. All dead people who are not born of the Spirit before they die, Jews, Muslims, or anyone who has misunderstood the Savior Jesus; some to heaven, others to hell.
  7. All the dead will head to heaven eventually (Origen, universal salvation).
I think options 5 and 6 are plausible.

A Serious Word from John

It is a most fearful state the lost are in; such a dreadful and dire condition. Whether they are unbelievers like atheists, agnostics, or deists; or they are lost while maintaining a mental concept of God and Jesus, and outward religion, but their hearts are far, so very far from God; they are in grave danger.

It is a great folly for someone to say "I love God: I really believe - I love God with all my heart," and yet they turn around and curse, and foul joke, and commit adultery and fornication, and revel in it, boasting of their exploits and conquest, filled with pride over their sins; who drink and smoke and gamble; who also rail on others, belittling them, laughing at them; I will tell you, these are LIARS, and they cannot love God, for "If ye love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15), and "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." (1 John 2:4), and " For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." (1 John 5:3)

You know, some people "struggle" with the writings of John, especially 1 John? Be very careful here when you have a "problem" with any scripture! It's the Word of Almighty God, and while we can ask Him questions, we should never question His Word!

John wasn't just part of the inner circle with Peter, James, and Jesus: he was the "beloved disciple," the only one chosen of God not to die a martyrs death, but to live a long life, and to receive the Revelation of Jesus Christ: the Apocalypse, which is companion to the Book of Daniel, also a man greatly beloved of God (Daniel 10:11) It's not that John carries any more weight than the writings of the other disciples, but he may have some deeper insights into the intimate things of God: the love of the Father, the purity of Christ, the love of the brethren.

Indeed, John is called the "Apostle of love" for passages like John 14:9-13, 17:20-26, 1 John 4:7-12, but we see from John also a strictness of holiness with sayings like 1 John 1:6, 2:1-6, 3:2-3, 3:4-10, 5:2-4.

Let us look at these. First the passages about love: "As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them."

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us."

Now the passages where some people have an issue. Oh, people "love" the love passages, but some tend to avoid these, or try to explain them away, but I tell ya God is a holy God and He requires obedience to His Word, and the mark of a true believer is ye shall know them by their fruits. (Matthew 7:16) Consider then Johns words here from 1 John:

" If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:"

"My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked."

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure."

(A word on that passage. Do you have the hope that you will be transformed and gain heaven when Jesus comes? If you truly do, then the Word says if you have this hope, you purify yourself, even as he is pure. If you are living an impure life, again you are a liar. The Word of God says it. Don't think you're going to skate into heaven on the thin ice you travel on the broad way that leadeth to destruction, because many shall come and cry to Him in that final day, "Lord, Lord" haven't we done this and that in your name?" And He will see you never did the will of the Father who is in heaven, and he will tell you to depart for He never knew you! Read Matthew 7:21-23. It comes right after the part about knowing a true believer by their fruits. Please don't play games with God. This is serious. Deadly serious. MORE than deadly serious: it's eternally serious!)

And back to 1 John, which only reinforces what was just written: "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother."

"By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."

In other words, John tells us this - You think you know God? Prove it by your fruits. If you are not keeping His commandments, and not loving the brethren, you are of your father the devil: you are a liar; you are deceived, and an antichrist, for you are denying Christ by your thoughts, words, and actions. And people see it. The world sees it. It's downright hypocrisy to say you love God and live like the devil. The Holy Scripture which is God's Word that's settled in heaven says you're not righteous, you walk in darkness, and you do not know God.

The root better be deep or you'll wash out. God sees through it all, and He will sweep away all the rotten fruit, and though He bare long with those who produce no fruit, a time comes when He will cut you down if you are fruitless. Luke 13:6-9,

"He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down."

In other words, the Lord sees there's no fruit, and the warnings have been given. The plant is in danger of being destroyed. But not quite yet. One more season: dung it, or fertilize it: God sends His messengers to proclaim the truth to the lost. But then a time comes where, if no fruit is produced, the tree is cut down.

I'll end with this: John 15:1-6,
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned."

Abide in Him. Get in Him. As George Whitefield used to say "close with Christ, " as in, close in, apprehend, embrace Him: close with Christ in saving faith. Amen.

Well didn't last long did he? Who would have thought that policing people for their personal believes don't sit well with the PEOPLE. *Shock Pikachu face*.

Yet he was so adamant about it too. Every report will be investigated he insisted. While the nation is gripping with more pressing matters. He pressed on matters which have no grip. A clear case where ideology blinds you to the reality around you.

In fact he was not even voted in by the Scottish people. Just by his party. Can one say he truly represented Scottish people?

Anyway I'm glad he is out of the way. Maybe now Scotland can have a better First Minister who actually cares for the nation's overall well being.

Opinion on T-shirt (RC only)

I work at Target since last October, I was given a "Take Pride" T-shirt that they used for the month of June for (lust) Pride month. I otherwise wear normal red t-shirts to work.

Many people have commented on my shirt and how they liked it. etc

I do not support the re-definition of marriage or the lifestyle etc.

Is it wrong if I continue to wear this shirt or just wear plain ones from now on?

The fear factor is real in America, but Democrats and Republicans are scared for the country's future for different reasons, the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll finds.

While the article leads with that question about fear, I think this one is waaay more interesting, particularly for this crowd.

Washington State GOP calls for repeal of 17th Amendment (popular election of Senators) “We are devolving into a democracy."

The WA GOP put it in writing that they’re not into democracy

After the candidates left, the convention’s delegates got down to crafting a party platform. Like at most GOP gatherings in the Donald Trump era, this one called for restrictions on voting. In Washington state, the delegates called for the end of all mail-in voting.

A resolution called for ending the ability to vote for U.S. senators. Instead, senators would get appointed by state legislatures, as it generally worked 110 years ago prior to the passage of the 17th Amendment in 1913.

“We are devolving into a democracy, because congressmen and senators are elected by the same pool,” was how one GOP delegate put it to the convention. “We do not want to be a democracy.”

Then they kicked it up a notch. They passed a resolution calling on people to please stop using the word “democracy.”

“We encourage Republicans to substitute the words ‘republic’ and ‘republicanism’ where previously they have used the word ‘democracy,’ ” the resolution says.

The resolution sums up: “We … oppose legislation which makes our nation more 'democratic' in nature.”

--

Some recent context for when the leading candidate for governor chose not to be endorsed by the state GOP at the convention, because they've gone too chaotic.

Supreme Court turns down porn group’s plea to block Texas age-verification law

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday declined a request from the porn industry to block a Texas age-verification rule, allowing the law to stand and temporarily derailing the efforts of porn creators to see the new safety measure scuttled.

The court said in an unsigned order without comment that it was denying a request from the Free Speech Coalition to issue a stay on the law. The Free Speech Coalition includes a porn trade association and several pornography creators.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has defended the law, HB 1181, since its passage last summer. The measure requires porn websites to institute “reasonable age-verification methods” to ensure minors are not accessing explicit sexual content on their sites.

The attorney general has sued multiple pornography companies in order to enforce the age-verification law. He argued earlier this year that pornography sites “are on the run because Texas has a law that aims to prevent them from showing harmful, obscene material to children.”

The Truth About the Past That ‘Tradwives’ Want to Revive

Estee Williams faced her TikTok followers and detractors head-on with full makeup, coiffed blonde waves, and a floral-printed puff sleeve peasant top cinched at the center with a tidy bow. She felt obligated to clarify a few things about what it really meant to be a “tradwife”—a portmanteau denoting “traditional wife”: “So the man goes outside the house, works, provides for the family. The woman stays home, and she’s the homemaker. She takes care of the home and the children if there are any.”

But Williams’ definition moved beyond the idyllic character of June Cleaver or even the Victorian-era presumptions of separate spheres. “Tradwives also believe,” she insisted, “that they should submit to their husbands and serve their husbands and family.” Williams was quick to defend her position against potential critics, noting that she did not believe women were inferior to men, but that they had an equally important but different role.

Tradwives have not escaped the notice of journalists and social commentators who track their popular rise on various social media platforms. Some analyses of the tradwife trend reference the 1950s, while other commentators focus on influencers like Hannah Neeleman of Ballerina Farm fame, who perform the role of 19th-century homesteaders (despite Neeleman’s occlusion of her husband’s inherited wealth). But the ideology behind the fad has much deeper—and more insidious—roots in American history.

United Methodists repeal longstanding ban on LGBTQ clergy

Delegates voted 692-51 at their General Conference — the first such legislative gathering in five years.

The church also decided to forbid punishing clergy who either perform or refuse to perform same sex marriages.

Likewise, local churches can decide to either host or forbid SSM in their buildings, without fear of penalty from supervisors.

Later, they may vote on changing the church's "Social Principles", presumably to be more open to homosexuality than the current version.

Over the past few years, a quarter of congregations have left the UMC since, it appears, the writing was on the wall.

Aseity and time

Psalm 90:

2 Even from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
God is self-existent, Wiki:

Aseity (from Latin ā "from" and sē "self", plus -ity) is the property by which a being exists of and from itself. It refers to the Christian belief that God does not depend on any cause other than himself for his existence, realization, or end, and has within himself his own reason of existence. This represents God as absolutely independent and self-existent by nature.
Before God created anything, God was self-sufficient. He did not need anything or anyone.

God created space-time and everything in it. Take the air away, I die. I need to breathe to stay alive. God cannot die due to lack of air because he existed before he created air. God's existence does not depend on anything in his creation, not even space-time. God existed outside of time. God is timeless.

John 1:

3 All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being.
Godhead divinity was an entirely self-sufficient reality before he created anything, including space-time.

Campus Demonstrations, and Hamas and Gaza

ucla-moves-to-shut-down-pro-palestinian-encampment-as-unlawful
I am interested in discussion about these topics:

1 What is protected in the American "freedom of speech"
2 How is one American freedom, limited by other American freedoms?
3 How does this co-limitation of values, parallel the way in which
formal Moral-Ethical models are created?
4 Why are demonstrators breaking the rules of the college campuses,
as well as the criminal laws of the states in which the colleges are situated?
5 What does this embrace of violence and breaking the law, have to do with
a moral demonstration?
6 Why did classic demonstrators in America, such as Martin Luther King Jr,
demand that those who demonstrated, were peaceful?
7 What seem to be the underlying principles, among the "electronic screen"
generations, that seem to lead to a pathway from peaceful freedom of speech,
to violent and lawless rioting (such as we saw at the Capital Building, on January
6th)?
8 What is the proper Christian position, on demonstrating?
9 Define what you mean, by "demonstrating".
10 Where does moral-ethical responsibility for expressing your "freedom
of speech", kick in?
---------- ----------

(I have started to address these topics, in a couple other threads.
But, Americans do not, in general, seem to think that the underlying
topics of Epistemology and moral-ethical ought, seem to be relevant
to them. Perhaps this thread, will join these topics together, in the
mind of some of the younger generations in America.

Christ's Power Over Evil Spirits! Mark 1:23-26

Text:
“And Jesus rebuked him (the unclean spirit) saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.”
Mark 1:25-26.

Good morning, cleansed Christian! Like the author, once you wallowed in the pits of sin and depravity of sin; lost, and with nowhere to go for Spiritual healing; dwelling on the ever-growing human-rubbish dump of sin-discarded souls, all on our way to a Christ-rejector’s Eternal Hell.

If this stark description depicts the state your soul was in prior to being redeemed by Christ’s sinless Blood – it most certainly describes mine! (See ‘About Kenny’ on www.ulsterchristians.org)

However, our gracious and Sovereign Lord God Almighty was not content to leave us abandoned and discarded on that heap of ruined and Hell-bound souls. Praise God no! He shone the light of His glorious Gospel of Salvation into our very hearts and minds, and called us to receive His everlasting love and forgiveness. Christ exercised His Divine power over all evil in our hearts and souls. Glory to the Lamb Who is worthy! Hallelujah! Amen.

“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:11)

J.C. Ryle Comments:
“We learn, in the first place, from these verses, the uselessness of a mere intellectual knowledge of religion. Twice we are specially told that the unclean spirits knew our Lord. In one place it says, “they knew Him.” In another, the devil cries out, “I know thee who thou art, the Holy one of God.” They knew Christ, when Scribes were ignorant of Him, and Pharisees would not acknowledge Him. And yet their knowledge was not unto salvation!

“The mere belief of the facts and doctrines of Christianity will never save our souls. Such belief is no better than the belief of devils. They all believe and know that Jesus is the Christ. They believe that He will one day judge the world, and cast them down to endless torment in hell. It is a solemn and sorrowful thought, that on these points some professing Christians have even less faith than the devil. There are some who doubt the reality of hell and the eternity of punishment. Such doubts as these find no place except in the hearts of self-willed men and women. There is no infidelity among devils. “They believe and tremble.” (James 2:19)

“Let us take heed that our faith be a faith of the heart as well as of the head. Let us see that our knowledge has a sanctifying influence on our affections and our lives. Let us not only know Christ but love Him, from a sense of actual benefit received from Him. Let us not only believe that He is the Son of God and the Saviour of the world, but rejoice in Him, and cleave to Him with purpose of heart.” (J.C. Ryle’s Expository Thoughts on the Gospels 1816-1900)

There is an old saying here in Ulster (Northern Ireland, UK) which goes: ‘The proof of the pudding is in the eating.’ Meaning, if it is a good, tasty, well-baked, pudding – it will be eaten up, enjoyed, and recognised as evidence of a ‘good, well-baked, pudding’.

Genuine Christian belief should be placed in one Person only – the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. We must first acknowledge Him as God the Son, and believe in His Holy attributes. We must repent of our sin, be Spiritually regenerated; then seek diligently and earnestly to emulate His life – in all we say, do, think, and believe.

There can be no power in a Christian profession, without the evidence of Christ in the person making the Christian profession.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) ‘The proof of the pudding is in the eating.’

In our selected Bible reading for today, we find a man suffering from demon-possession; “…a man with an unclean spirit…” Such a negative position to be found in. (V.23)

However, the Lord God Almighty is a gracious and merciful Lord God, and, in the Person of Christ Jesus, saw fit to exercise His Absolute and Sovereign power over the powers of Satan and evil. Christ commanded the evil demon to, “Hold thy peace, and come out of him.” (V.25)

It is indeed truly amazing that, today, in this increasingly apostate and ungodly 21st Century, demons from Hell immediately recognise and obey the Lord Jesus Christ, while unregenerate, disobedient humankind use His Holy Name as a swear word.

“…Let us alone; what have we to do with Thee, Thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art Thou come to destroy us? I know Thee Who Thou art, the Holy One of God.” (V.24)

Praise God, even the evil powers of Hell must obey the Word of the Living Lord God, in Christ Jesus: “And when the unclean spirit had torn him (the demon-possessed man), and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.” (V.26)

Amazement was the result within those that clearly witnessed this Divine deliverance from evil, for they saw with their own eyes Divine authority being commanded: “…with authority commandeth He even the unclean spirits, and they do obey Him” (V.27) Hallelujah!

Thought: At the Name of Jesus every knee must bow! Let us bow now. (Phil. 2:9-11)

BE AUTHENTIC

From Ron Hawks

"Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you…Romans 12:3.”

Today, different cultures, pockets of information, and values are landing on our personal doorsteps all the time. All of this diversity can cause us to feel intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually overloaded. It can also drive us toward a type of internal segregation that is unhealthy. We are constantly tempted to compartmentalize our lives as a way of coping with the overload. We may be drawn to think and act one way in terms of politics and social issues, yet a very different way in terms of our workplace and work ethics. We may think and act one way in our spiritual community, but another in our private sphere.

When we are tempted to feel, think and act differently in different settings, we can begin to lose our sense of identity and deep relationships. Have you ever been at a party composed of people from your different spheres of life – neighborhood, family, work, church, school, etc. – and felt awkward? Some of this awkwardness is natural and good; different people know different aspects of you. The question is, however, are you consistently being honest with whom you are, or are you "playing to the crowd" and portraying yourself differently in different settings? Though it may at times seem expedient to segregate your internal life – to keep your different thoughts, feelings, and worldviews separate within you, you will pay a price over time. You may lose touch with yourself, and become untouchable to others.

I would like to suggest three components to help you grow/maintain personal wholeness and integration. First, it is important to BE SELF-AWARE. Take time to understand your feelings and thoughts – even when they are in conflict with each other. Learn to live and embrace some of these tensions. Pay attention to how others perceive you; don't always discount them, they may well be right. Invite, learn from, and make appropriate adjustments based on the insights of others. "Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you." (Romans 12:3) Neither is it valuable to think of yourself lowlier than you ought. Be aware of who you are and how others perceive you.

Second, BE PRESENT to yourself and to others. Don't be one of those people who is always looking around the room at others when talking to someone, give that one person your undivided attention. "In humility consider others better than yourself." (Philippians 2:3) At the same time, be present to what is going on in you when you are with others. This will help you integrate your thoughts and feelings.

Third, BE AUTHENTIC. Be consistent and congruent. Be who you really are in every setting. This will actually make your life simpler. You won't have to pick which one of you to present in different settings, you can simply be you. To be authentic means, to be honest with yourself, honest with God, and honest with others – what a wonderful way to live…Pastor Tom

House Democrats move to save Johnson as MTG’s motion to vacate appears ‘dead’

I hope MTG is able to get a vote on record. Not stopping the border disaster means children continue to be sex trafficked every day and Americans continue to die of fentanyl overdose each day.
