  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

“Allah does not approve”; South Carolina Terrorist Attacks Furries at Anthrocon with a Sword; One Pinkie Severely Sliced

You don't believe in violent gay Muslim furries? You haven't visited South Carolina!

S.C. man visiting Pittsburgh for furry convention charged in hotel sword attack

A South Carolina man in Pittsburgh for the Anthrocon Convention has been charged with attacking his friend with a sword on Thursday inside a Downtown hotel room.

Medics reported that the victim had a severe cut splitting his right pinkie finger and damage to his bone, the complaint said. The man told medics that he would go to the hospital on his own for stitches.

The witness told officers the group was going to arrive on Thursday, but O’Leary, who is a friend of theirs, asked them to come a day early and stay in his hotel room until the group’s room was ready, the complaint said.

The men were getting ready to go to bed around 1 a.m. when the witness told police that he heard O’Leary yell, “Allah does not approve,” leave the bed, and grab a large, black sword. O’Leary began “wildly swinging” it at the man, the complaint said.

The victim told police that he and O’Leary had briefly dated over the winter but were now just friends.

ABC will now air Biden interview with Stephanopoulos tonight (Friday) at 8pm instead of Sunday.

Feeling the timeliness of the material, ABC will now air the video today.

Why ABC moved the Biden interview to air Friday night

Anchor George Stephanopoulos is expected to interview Biden on Friday in Wisconsin, the president’s first extended interview with a major media network since his disastrous debate performance last week that has led many in the Democratic Party to question whether Biden should be the nominee. ABC had planned to release clips Friday evening, and the whole interview would air during Stephanopoulos’ Sunday morning show, “This Week With George Stephanopoulos.”

Recognizing this extraordinary political moment, however, ABC had a change of heart. ABC News realized it would be uncomfortable to hold onto the interview for nearly two days, according to a source familiar with the matter. ABC may have been accused, fairly or not, of hiding something, and the news cycle is moving at a rapid pace.

A network source told CNN that because the story is of “national interest,” ABC decided to make it a “primetime special” to air the same day the interview is taking place.

Judge Blocks Biden Administration’s Inclusion of ‘Gender Identity’ in Title IX Regulations

Major Democratic donors want Joe out

After several days of quiet griping and hoping that President Biden would abandon his re-election campaign on his own, many wealthy Democratic donors are trying to take matters into their own hands.
Wielding their fortunes as both carrot and stick, donors have undertaken a number of initiatives to pressure Mr. Biden to step down from the top of the ticket and help lay the groundwork for an alternate candidate.
A group of them is working to raise as much as $100 million for a sort of escrow fund, called the Next Generation PAC, that would be used to support a replacement candidate. If Mr. Biden does not step aside, the money could be used to help down-ballot candidates, according to people close to the effort.
Supporters of potential replacements like Vice President Kamala Harris are jockeying to position their preferred successor. Other donors are threatening to withhold contributions not only from Mr. Biden but also from other Democratic groups unless Mr. Biden bows out.

Vatican Excommunicates Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò for Schism

The ruling comes after Archbishop Viganò defied a Vatican summons to appear before the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith to face charges of schism last week.

The Vatican has officially excommunicated Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith announced Friday.

Archbishop Viganò was found guilty of the canonical crime, or delict, of schism, or the refusal to submit to the Pope or the communion of the Church, at the conclusion of the Vatican’s extrajudicial penal process on July 4.

The Vatican’s doctrine office announced the“latae sententiae” excommunication (automatic excommunication) on July 5, citing Archbishop Viganò’s “public statements manifesting his refusal to recognize and submit to the Supreme Pontiff, his rejection of communion with the members of the Church subject to him, and of the legitimacy and magisterial authority of the Second Vatican Council.”

The former papal nuncio to the United States is now excommunicated, the most serious penalty a baptized person can incur, which consists of being placed outside the communion of the faithful of the Catholic Church and denied access to the sacraments.

Is modern Western Civilization headed down the path of Sodom?

Ezekiel 16:49 “‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

Hermeneutic understanding of this passage binds to this specific passage of scripture.

Matthew 25:41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

This binds to these verses.
John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

James 2:8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.
9 But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11 For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,” also said, “You shall not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker. 12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

By Colossians 1, we know that Jesus Christ's blood atoned for all creation. Because of this, we are not to count those that haven't repented from self to Jesus as "not our neighbor". In fact, we are to count even the unrepentant as "the least of these". They are enemies of the gospel in many instances, yet Peter writes this oddity.
2 Peter 2:21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they had known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
(The Holy Commandment) John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Under the very words; "Be ye perfect as your Father in Heaven is perfect", Jesus teaches us to Love far beyond our "family". He states that even the heathens do that. To display the "Perfect Love" of our heavenly Father, we are to love, even our enemies as Jesus did on the cross. Paul even specifies that we were all, once enemies of God. This is why I am scripturally unable to reconcile peace with any doctrine that limits the flow of Jesus Christ's Blood. It would be defaming the core of the Gospel which Jesus and all of the Apostles speak of, time and time again.

We have fat provision as Western Civilization. Even those in poverty have more than most in other locations. We are steeped with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus forgave All Sin of the Old Covenant. We are under the Law of Love. We have deep knowledge of the Love of Jesus Christ unto all mankind, yet many doctrines dam up Love unto all mankind.

The Physical reading of the Sheep and the Goats is very obvious, but the Spiritual reading of the Sheep and the Goats is very upsetting.

I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.

Matthew 25:42,43 I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat

Jesus is the very Bread of life that teaches us to Love one another. That is His easy yoke. It is fulfilling to Love as God Loves, by His indwelling. His bread is free to all and especially satisfying to beggars
I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
If a person simply turns from self to Jesus, He instantly indwells them, as they are (thanks to personal repentance), and bubbles up a fountain of Wisdom and Love that again implores one to satisfy humanity with the Magnificent Bread of Life (Jesus). The words that proceed from HIS MOUTH satisfy the most broken of souls.

43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in,
Spiritually, this is a twofold wonder. Strangers in need, that would be healed by the Gospel are not allowed to enter Physical Brick and Mortar buildings as Brethren, because of their Physical Sins, that Jesus Christ's blood atoned for. They are shunned. Many people also shun these same people because of their physical sins that Jesus atoned for.
The other wonder of this verse is that it suggests that people who transgress the Royal Law (Love our neighbor's as Jesus Loved us), have driven Jesus out of their lives and by not turning back to his Royal Commandment (Love), they have shut Him out of their Souls.

I needed clothes and you did not clothe me,
The wedding garment has been provided for every human being that has ever lived. It is merely Repentance and willingness to become a vessel of LOVE (God's indwelling), that leads us to Love as Commanded by His work, not ours. Even the most carnally destitute of mankind can PUT ON JESUS CHRIST for the mere cost of Surrender/Repentance unto Him, which always results in Unfettered Love unto mankind that Breaks Chains.

I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.
There is no greater Prison than slavery to a system that is unloving. Jesus is the only key to this prison! But, even so, those that have much financially, could help those that live in areas that rebuke the Gospel and imprison it's witnesses. That last part was carnal, but back to Spiritual, Chains of addiction are not broken by physical will, but Love. Love is the source of all healing in this world. Hate is born of everything else.
I don't have the right to indict humanity of Western Civilization. I can merely ask this question. Has the Royal Commandment of LOVE been exalted unto the greatest and the least, within Western Civilization? Do those who have been forgiven much, love much? These are personal questions to work out with fear and trembling. IMO

Ever since the Renaissance back in the 15th and 16th centuries the literal interpretation has been challenged. We have the divine between liberal and conservative. approaches to the Bible. I am more interested in Why we hold the views that we hold.

For me, I think it comes down to a different question, 'Does God act and work through human effort? That is to say science, geology, archeology, higher critical methods of scripture study, etc. I also think God would will a consistency or correlation between science discoveries and truth of history. In there words something like "imbedded age theory" would make no sense.

Of course the bring another question. What can be taken as literal and what is the criteria to decide?

I am rather amazed at how many people I talk with DO take the Genesis creation accounts literally.

Returning

I was on CF years ago, and kind of wandered away from it.

I’ve been Christian for almost 50 years, but nowhere near where I should be as a Christian.

I’ve been married for 15 years, I’m a cat rescuer, a bookworm, and I enjoy music (jazz, classical, contemporary Christian, Celtic) movies SF, western, action, comedy), and politics. I’m on our city tree board.

Discussion on Karl Barth's The Epistle to the Romans.

Hi folks,

I'd love to foster a discussion on various theology books (I'm a bit of a book worm). I just finished K. Barth's Epistle to the Romans. I hail from the Anglican Catholic (Oxford movement) tradition but have a strong interest in reformed theology as well. These are some of my thoughts and I'd love to hear others perspectives who are versed in theological literature (my background is in Catholic and Classical Jewish Theology). In some ways it was an excellent rebuttal of liberal christianity and orthodox reformed protestantism. Barth's work seems to treat Christ's resurrection as unknowable noumena, threatening to sever the founding event from the church and symbolic tradition founded on it. This presents a number of similar (and dangerous) implications as much of liberal christian thought, which often attempts to find ways to make sense of Christ's ressurection without validating its historical necessity. I also read it a a deeply ant-catholic work in a lot of the ways it relates belief to classical notions of reason.
Anyway love to hear other people's thoughts on the work, including those who found it more of a positive contribution to Christian Theology than I do (which doesn't mean it isnt fascinating and valuable to study).

Revelation 23

Just testing :D

There never has been a literal Revelation Chapter 23. Revelation ends with Chapter 22.

There are sermons that have been entitled “Rev 23”, but those are part of a figurative sermon(s) that seek to expound on the post New Heaven and New Earth life with Christ.

A similar analogy would be the Acts 29 movement in China. There is no literal Acts 29. But the movement seeks to follow Christ as if it's the 1st century as a continuation of the early church but now in the present tense. China persecutes Christians today like many were persecuted by the Roman govt.

You can find plenty of nonsense on YouTube including preachers and teachers that misguide and mislead others.

Rest assured that John ended this inspired letter to the 7 churches of Asia at the conclusion of Chapter 22.

Why are Christians patriotic?

Can someone show me, from Biblical point of view, why Christianity is related to patriotism in many people's minds? I mean, I can see why this would be true when it comes to State of Israel. Of course there are many opinions in terms of whether it applies to Israel today, but that's besides the point. The point is: I know that there are verses about it, there is just a disagreement on how to interpret them. But if you look at the other countries, such as either US or Russia, then those countries are not even in the Bible, so what makes Christians living in those countries think they have to be patriotic? Again, I am not asking about proper interpretation of those verses. I am asking you to simply point what those verses are. Even if you disagree with interpretation, at least you know what those verses are in case of Israel. Now, tell me what are the verses in case of US or Russia?

And yes, I mentioned US and Russia for a reason. I was born in Russia and I moved to US at the age of 14. As such, I know that Russians view Russia as a holy land. And, of course, Americans view America as such. Which makes it ironic given how Russia and US oppose each other politically. So each side thinks their side is God and the opposing side is the devil. Neither side is aware that Christians on the other side also think God is on their side (at least neither side ever mentioned it). But then again, given that Putin and Trump seem to support each other, and each of them is being supported by Christians of their respective countries, it is kind of brings those two patriotisms together; but, again, neither side seemed to acknowledge it.

As far as US goes, some say it was founded on Babilon, which would be a good reason "not to be" patriotic. I guess they argue out of it by saying that patriotism applies to the time of founding fathers, while Babilon applies to today. But this doesn't really cut it. If prophetic role of the US is to be Babilon, then it was predestined to be one even at the time of founding fathers. Yet their claim is that America's true purpose was to be the nation of God, as exemplified by founding fathers, and it simply strayed from its biblical purpose nowdays. But, if so, how can you say it is a fulfillment of prophecy of Babilon?

As far as Russia goes, I read on the internet few weeks ago that in the Old Testament there was a hostile kingdom of Rush, which is believed to be Russia. If thats the case, then how can they possibly claim to be a holy nation? Or, if they reject the idea that Rush refers to Russia, then again we are faced with the question: where is Russia in the Bible?

Einstein vs Bohr parallels Calvinism vs Arminianism

On the science front, Einstein believed in determinism while Bohr believed in randomness. On religion front, Calvinism believes in predestination while Arminianism believes in free will. So the two parallel each other.

I used to be an atheist before I was 22, and became Christian starting from the age of 22 onward. Back when I was an atheist. I was a strong believer in determinism. Even after I learned quantum mechanics, I used to believe that there are hidden variables that would ensure determinism even in that context. I was unaware of Calvinism, I assumed all Christians believed in free will. And, in fact, this was one of my reasons of rejecting Christianity.

Then, after I became a Christian I subscribed to free will belief (by default). I learned about Calvinism only few years later. And when I learned about it, it was very hard to swallow, because it seems unfair. Which is ironic: back when I was an atheist, I believed in determinism. But that is because, as an atheist, I didn't expect anything to be fair.

I imagine there are probably other atheists, who oppose Christianity on the different ground that I did. Namely, they might say Christians are Calvinist, which would make it unfair. I haven't met them (I mean I don't meet a lot of people in general) but it seems right up their alley, since in current discourse atheists accuse Christians of biggotry a lot, they just don't mention Calvinism as they do it.

So its rather interesting: atheists that are motivated by science (like I was) would probably oppose Arminian version of Christianity, while atheists that are motivated by fairness (like American leftists) would oppose Calvinist version of Christianity.

Calvin University ordered to examine dissent on LGBT issues

The Christian Reformed Church of North America has instructed Calvin University to examine dissent among faculty and staff on the issue of homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

At the CRC Synod 2024, held last month in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the denomination's leadership instructed the Board of Trustees at Calvin to “define the differences in Calvin’s use of ‘confessional difficulties’ in relation to the decisions of synod concerning gravamen.”

A gravamen is an official statement that can be filed by church members and officials to address concerns about a specific part of the denomination's teaching that they believe goes against the Bible.

Has Joe Read Roe?

The president’s bad debate night can’t excuse the misleading statements he made about U.S. abortion law.

President Joe Biden’s disastrous June 27 debate performance was alarming on many fronts. But there was one element that was particularly troubling for pro-life Americans: his garbled articulation of Roe v. Wade.

Biden reveres Roe. Never mind that he disagreed with its reasoning as a freshman senator when it came out 51 years ago. Today, it’s his fifth gospel, the lynchpin of his abortion-focused presidency and now-faltering reelection campaign.

You might recall the exchange Biden had two years ago on the South Lawn of the White House with EWTN White House Correspondent Owen Jensen. Just before the president flew away aboard Marine One, Jensen managed to ask him if he thought there should be any restrictions on abortion.

“Yes, there should be,” Biden responded.

When Jensen asked what those restrictions should be, Biden yelled back, “It’s Roe v. Wade. Read it, man. You’ll get educated,” before hurrying off to the helicopter.

The question is: Has Joe read Roe?

The American Righteous Cause — Then and Now Freedom, like reason, needs faith to sustain it.

Today’s citizens of the United States of America are assaulting the faith of their founders and rejecting it outright, aggressively casting it aside, not unlike the Jacobins. One popular left-wing American magazine proudly calls itself, Jacobin. Many Americans no longer want the faith of their fathers.
Freedom, like reason, needs faith to sustain it. A nation cannot ascend to its noble heights on only one wing. A genuinely righteous nation needs both, in July 1776 and still today.

PCUSA moves closer to requiring clergy candidates to answer questions about LGBT views

The Presbyterian Church (USA) is one step closer to requiring clergy candidates to be asked about their views on sexual orientation and gender identity, in a measure some believe will target theological conservatives.

Known as the “Olympia Overture” after the presbytery from which it came, the proposal was divided into two parts, both of which were passed by commissioners at the 226th General Assembly on Wednesday.

Also known as POL-01, the overture will next go to the presbyteries for ratification, with the two parts of the measure being presented separately to the regional bodies for consideration.

Biden says he needs to get more sleep and work fewer hours: Report

The president said he told his staff members that he needs to get more sleep and lamented not listening to them about his schedule, a person who attended the meeting told the New York Times.
At one point in the meeting, Gov. Josh Green (D-HI) asked Biden questions about his health, prompting the president to respond that he was fine.
“It’s just my brain,” he said, according to the outlet.
Who knew? It wasn't a cold at all, simply a matter of getting a bit more sleep.

Fauci says he has ‘no doubt’ Biden is capable of continuing as president

“I don’t want to comment about what happened that night, but you know, to me, it just looked like a bad night,” Fauci said, “because my interaction with him was what I described in the book and what happened even subsequent to what I described in the book, after I got out.”
He called Biden “very probing in his questions, very analytical, very calm about things,” and said during briefings, Biden always asked “very relevant questions.”

Christian theology knowledge, how deep you are into worshipping, and other dating deal breakers

This topic could simply be titled, "He isn't Christian enough for me", the operative word "enough".

I have noticed some Christian women complaining how they are single for a while because the Christian single men they keep meeting aren't as higher up on the scale that the women are when it comes to "being Christian". I mean, these are good, decent men, but apparently not being on the up and up on the scale of Biblical knowledge as their lady counter parts isn't necessarily fair, is it? I mean, no one's perfect.

For instance, some complain that even though they are weekly church goers, they are rather complacent in their faith, or hadn't risen up beyond the level they are currently are in their theology knowledge and passion. That men's theological knowledge is quite lacking. Apparently, Bible reading is a biggie, or lack thereof across the men folk. Example, it's not enough that a man is getting his knowledge via the weekly Bible study and listening to the pastor on Sundays?

It take it that it's more attractive for a man to shout "Can I get an Amen!!", than a guy that sits there quietly during servcies?

Apparently, this can be deal breakers with Christian women, yes...no? I would think the only kind a man this woman would be compatible with is a church leader or pastor?

Rumors Of 10-Foot Alien At Miami Mall Circulate Online—Here’s What Actually Happened

I had not heard of this one till today. :p

Rumors and video clips of panic, massive police presence and what social media users claim to be an eight-to-10-foot alien appearing at a Miami mall cropped up online Friday, though the digital buzz around the supposed appearance seems to be sourced from footage of a new year’s day brawl at the shopping center that involved several juveniles and a police response.

KEY FACTS

One low quality clip circulating on social media allegedly shows a tall alien creature walking between a dozen squad cars and an area near Miami’s Bayside Marketplace, though someusers on X, formerly known at Twitter, have casted doubt on the unconvincing nature of the video.

The scenes from the supposed appearance of the alien match up with news coverage and video footage that covered a New Year’s Day brawl at the mall that involved several fights and loud fireworks that caused a resident to report an active shooter, according to NBC South Florida, provoking a large police response.

A clearer video that closely matches the alleged alien clip actually appears to be 2 to 3 people, likely police officers, walking together between the squad cars and an area near the mall.

Mixed in with alleged footage of the alien were videos of people running in panic from the area, with some users conflating the clips with locals running from the creature.
Miami Police Department confirmed on Monday it received a call of shots fired and eventually concluded the reported sounds came from the fireworks, according to a post on X.

Four males were detained during the incident and face charges including burglary, grand theft, battery and resisting an officer, NBC reported, arrests made in connection to the assault of a man who confronted a group of teens he believed threw a bottle at his car.

CRUCIAL QUOTE

“There were no aliens, UFOs, or ETs. No airports were closed. No power outages,” Miami Police Department told Forbes in an email, adding that citywide officers were deployed for crowd control due to juveniles refusing to leave the area.
