  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Which Groups Are More Likely To Believe That Violence Is Sometimes Necessary To Gain Political Aims?

This is a very detailed set of poll results. Note the sectioned where we see which groups are most likely to support violence to get their political aims.

Majorities would never accept violence as a political strategy. Who is shocked that liberals are much MORE likely to condone violence? Those who are "very liberal" are at about 25% as are 18-44 year old liberals. The more liberal, the more accepting of violence. I certainly would have expected the opposite, but then I just watched documentary for an hour that focused on Mandela.

fasting

Taken from this thread:

Abstaining from meat is fairly common in many cultures as an ascetic practice, from Hindu brahmins, Jains, and Buddhists, Chinese Taoists, animistic cultures, to eastern Christians, so I'm guessing there's something universal about it being spiritually beneficial that is understood intuitively. Anecdontally, some people who have gone vegan or vegetarian sometimes mention having spiritual intuitions or interest, despite previously having no interest.

Living on a diet of only plants isn't inherently unhealthy, the main risk is that in modern agricultural practices, there's a complete deficiency in B-12 (cobalamin), which means with prolonged abstinence from meat (usually measured in years, not days, depending on body stores) there's a risk of serious anemia and nerve damage, however this can be solved by taking a simple supplement, or eating exotic foods like chlorella or duckweed (which is actually consumed by poor Thai peasants as a traditional food in Thailand).

Monastics and vegetarianism

(posting in fellowship)

I did not want to go off topic in another thread, but I was wondering, why Orthodox monks and nuns tend to be vegetarian and only eat fish? Are they also not allowed to eat cheese, dairy, yogurt, wine, oil et al? What other foods do they avoid?

I remember reading about St. Benedict telling two men who were possessed to avoid meat after they were delivered (he's a pre-schism saint, and the founder of monasticism in the west).

Peace

Amazing interview with Israel and Maria Folau.

This brave couple at the top of World Sport, made a public stand stating Scriptures view on sin including homosexuality and the journey they faced as a result.

Standing on the bibles message bought a huge backlash and sparse support from the church.

It is very inspiring interview.

The Senior Pastor Is Most Important

I believe "Bishop" is the closest term we can come to "Senior Pastor" or basic overseer of the church

1 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. - 1 Timothy 3

I do visit a SBC when they have 9AM services... Levels of pastors...

Senior (Lead) Pastor - Who I would refer to as Bishop
Worship Leader
Executive Pastor
Associate Pastor of Spiritual Formation and Care
Young Adult Minister
Kids Ministry Director
Kids Ministry Assistant
Youth Minister
Administration helps

They probably pack in 3,000 in both Sunday services combined. - Northstar Church - Staff Leadership

I would attribute the success of this church to good leadership... All lead by a good senior pastor. I would also imagine the Apostle Paul longing for the fellowship of senior pastors as he would come to town.

I have commented before about these lower court judges who seek to usurp the power of the presidency.

Trump to add $100,000 fee for H-1B visas under new proposal

The program is capped at 65,000 new visas each year, although an additional 20,000 can be issued for employees with a master's degree or higher, according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

As Trump talks trade with Xi, Trump Halts $400 Million in Taiwan Weapons Aid, Washington Post Reports

President Donald Trump has declined to approve a more than $400 million military aid package for Taiwan as he seeks a trade deal with China, according to the Washington Post.

The shipment including munitions and autonomous drones was rejected in a decision this summer that may still be reversed, the newspaper reported Thursday evening US time, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

The White House didn’t immediately respond to a Bloomberg News request for comment, but earlier told the Post the decision had not been finalized.

If confirmed, the pause in security assistance aligns with the Trump administration’s efforts to cool tensions with Beijing as he seeks an expansive trade agreement with the world’s second-largest economy. Trump is set to hold his first phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping since June on Friday, an exchange that may lead to a deal over TikTok’s US operations and pave the way for a meeting next month.

Another word on one of Charlie Kirk's views: RACE.

And this other word I'm passing along here is actually what former Police Office Tatum shares about his perspective on Charlie Kirk's views on race.

I think this brief video is timely (it's about 13 minutes long), and as someone inclined toward social science and mutual understanding among everyone, I appreciate what Officer Tatum expresses about his own experiences and interpretations regarding what Charlie Kirk thought and for which a variety of different understandings float around.

Note too: This will be the only other Charlie Kirk related video I will be sharing. I'm praying for Peace, Order and Humanity for everyone on all sides of the political spectrum. God Bless America! Thank you, The Officer Tatum!

Empathy

I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage.
A quote from Chuck Kirk.

Now I look at this quote and I get seriously confused. I cannot understand why a person would have a problem with empathy.

How would the Good Samaritan Help someone that thinks their terrible without it?

How can Jesus heal someone without it?

In my view, empathy connects us and allow people sympathy to flow more greatly. It creates stronger bonds between strangers.

So help me understand how and WHY empathy is bad.

Senate passes resolution for 'National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk' for Oct. 14th (Kirk's birthday)

The Senate on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution marking Oct. 14, 2025 -- the influencer's birthday -- a "National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk."

In the approved resolution, the Senate "recognizes Charlie Kirk for his contributions to civic education and public service" and "encourages educational institutions, civic organizations and citizens across the United States to observe this day."

House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Thursday that the House of Representative will "soon pass a resolution honoring the life and legacy of our friend Charlie Kirk, and condemning the political violence that led to his untimely passing."

A pastoral word on Charlie Kirk & more - LCMS

"Charlie Kirk was a devout Christian, murdered for his conservative religious and political views by a young man who has fallen victim to the ideological demons of our time."

The leftist attack experienced in most universities has ridiculed your biblical faith and the very values you learned from your fathers and mothers, grandparents and your Confirmation pastor — values that taught you Christ, forgiveness, love, service and vocation."

First day of using my Rosary, Our Lady of Fatima prayer?

Hi,

I just recently started my renewal in Christianity and the Catholic faith. I am of Spanish (Castilian) decent and my parents and grandparents were "holy rollers". My parents never did the rosary, but my grandparents did it every day. I can still remember as a chlld when they would stay with us. I received my rosary today and I decided to give it a shot. I bought the little book, "Pray the Rosary" and a Rosary Prayer Card by KeepGodinLife. The prayer card states to say the Fatima prayer after Glory Be to the Father. The booklet leaves it out and says only to say the Glory Be. I'm planning on getting my rosar

Rare coin hoard unearthed in Galilee reveals hidden chapter of Jewish revolt against Rome

A remarkable discovery in northern Israel has shed light on one of the least-documented Jewish uprisings against Roman rule.

Archaeologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) and Zefat Academic College have unearthed a hoard of 22 bronze coins, dating back more than 1,600 years, in the ancient settlement of Hukok in the Lower Galilee.

The treasure was found stashed in a small crevice deep inside an underground hiding complex, a network of tunnels and chambers first carved during the Great Revolt (66–70 CE) and later adapted for the Bar-Kochba Revolt (132–136 CE). To the researchers’ surprise, the coins turned out to be from a much later conflict — the Gallus Revolt of 351–352 CE, the last Jewish rebellion under Roman rule.

The Proper Working of Each Individual Part

“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
“As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” (Ephesians 4:11-16 NASB1995)

As Christians, collectively, we are the universal body of Christ, the church, the people of God by God-provided and God-gifted and God-persuaded faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, not of human flesh, but of God. So, we humans do not get to define what that faith looks like. God does. And his word teaches us that biblical faith in Jesus Christ leads to us dying with Christ to sin, and being raised with him to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as servants of righteousness.

As those who are now belonging to God, by faith in Jesus Christ, we are individually gifted with Spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit, and we are given our body parts (our individual ministry assignments) by God within the body. Some people are gifted with the body assignment of spiritually equipping the saints of God for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ. But this must be done biblically, and not according to “church” business models and secular marketing schemes, but according to the word of God.

And what this means is that everyone of us has a spiritual role within the body of Christ, as a whole, for the building up of the body of Christ to spiritual maturity in our walks of faith in the Lord Jesus. So, we are also to be those who speak the truth of God’s word to one another, but spoken in love, to help one another to not be taken captive by certain people by their trickery and craftiness in deceitful scheming, so we will not be led astray to false doctrines of salvation and end up not in true relationships with Christ.

And then notice with me carefully what this says next:

“But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” (Ephesians 4:15-16 NASB1995)

Do you see what this is saying? We who are followers of Jesus Christ, doing the will of God for our lives, are all necessary to the proper working of the body of Christ, the church. And the body can only work properly when every body part is provided the opportunity to supply his or her part to the proper working of the body. For God did not design his body to work like so many institutional market-driven beholding to the government, in partnership with the government “churches,” which are denying many body parts to function.

For, as the body of Christ, we are to be teaching and admonishing one another in all spiritual wisdom. And we are to be exhorting one another every day so that none of us may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. And we are to be stirring up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, but encouraging one another, and all the more as we see the Day drawing near. And encouragement is not all just the feel good stuff, but it includes to urgently counsel, to admonish, and to exhort.

And our meeting together does not have to be all in one place or on any specific day of the week or at any particular hour of the day or night, but it can be anywhere at any time at any appropriate location, which can include meeting on the internet, or via a phone call, or a text message, or a video call, or whatever other means of communication we might have. And “the church” is not a building that you go to, but it is the people of God who can meet together in small or large groups anywhere for the purposes of God.

Oh, to Be Like Thee, Blessed Redeemer

Lyrics by Thomas O. Chisholm, 1897
Music by W. J. Kirkpatrick, 1897

Oh, to be like Thee! blessèd Redeemer,
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.

Oh, to be like Thee! full of compassion,
Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,
Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,
Seeking the wandering sinner to find.

O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit,
Holy and harmless, patient and brave;
Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,
Willing to suffer others to save.

O to be like Thee! while I am pleading,
Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love;
Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,
Fit me for life and Heaven above.

Oh, to be like Thee! Oh, to be like Thee,
Blessèd Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.

Parliamentary System in Your Country

I'm in the UK where we have several political parties, the one with most votes forming a Government (currently the Labour Party) and the rest in opposition. The leader of the largest opposition party (currently Conservative) is the main spokesperson for the opposition and forms a Shadow Cabinet.

Although many issues are debated on party lines, moral issues, such as abortion, gay rights and assisted dying are not on party political lines. Our MPs have free votes. I think this prevents too much of a left/right divide and is a great blessing. I'm curious to know if this is the same in other Western democracies so would love to hear from those in other countries. Comments from fellow Brits are welcome too, of course! Thank you in advance for any replies.

The Astounding Pop Mech Show: Death May Not Be the End of Consciousness

Andrew Daniels and John Gilpatrick discuss how your brain could fight to stay alive after your body gives up.

You know the stories: a flash of light, a tunnel, maybe even a mysterious voice telling you it’s not your time. Near-deathexperiences have fascinated people for decades, but now scientists are starting to think there’s something even stranger going on: Right as the body shuts down, the brain might be kicking into overdrive, firing off one last burst of consciousnessin a final push to stay alive.

That’s the mind-blowing idea behind one of Pop Mech’s most-read recent stories, “A ‘Twilight Consciousness’ May Exist in Dying Patients. Could That Mean Death Isn’t Final?” In the story, scientists detail a huge spike in gamma brainwaves—those linked with memory, awareness, and sensory experience—after patients are declared clinically dead. The discovery basically challenges everything we thought we knew about what it means to die.

Watch Andrew Daniels and John Gilpatrick break down the weird phenomenon of “twilight consciousness” and share a few stranger-than-fiction stories, like the man who woke up on the operating table just before his organs were harvested, and the 95-year-old woman who rose from her coffin after six days and made herself a bowl of porridge because she was hungry.
