Could a woman be the next Archbishop of Canterbury ?

Evangelical and other Protestant leaders have provided a range of reactions to the election of Pope Leo XIV, from some believing he is exactly what the world needs to others who fear he will be a "woke" pontiff.

Pope Leo XIV, who was Cardinal Robert Prevost, became the first pope born in the United States of America on Thursday, as he was elected the 267th Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church.

In statements shared with The Christian Post, Protestant leaders have offered their thoughts on the Chicago-native's confirmation to the papacy. The following pages highlight their responses.

His maternal grandparents are described as Black or mulatto in historical records. They lived in New Orleans’ Seventh Ward, an area known for being a place where people with African, Caribbean and European roots intermixed. The grandparents, Joseph Martinez and Louise Baquié, moved to Chicago in the early 20th century and had a daughter: Mildred Martinez, the pope’s mother. So, what does that mean?
When America was a young country, slave owners instituted the ‘one-drop rule.’ It was a historical and sociological principle of racial classification that said any person with a single ancestor of African descent (“one drop” of “black blood”) was considered Black, regardless of their overall ancestry or physical appearance.


That’s why light skinned Black folks felt the need to pass. They knew that if their true ancestry was discovered, they would be ostracized and treated like a second-class citizen—even if their skin was white as snow and their hair bowed in the wind. (It’s part of the whole plot of Imitation of Life, a movie beloved by Black grandmothers everywhere.)

This rule was forced upon us, so Black folks adopted it. Now, no matter what you look like, if you have a Black ancestor, you are invited to the cookout.

The pope is not just Black. He is a black person from Chicago who can trace his roots to New Orleans. That man is not only invited to the cookout, but we may also have make him actually cook.

Like many Americans, he represents America's rich diversity--racially and ethnically. And, like most Americans of mixed race, he was not a DEI cardinal/Pope. He was elected for his holiness, compassion, background and experience, and intelligence.

But is this why there seems to be a conservative backlash towards him?

Pope Leo XIV is truly a leader chosen by God.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to “defend ourselves alone” against Yemen’s Houthi rebels after US President Donald Trump struck a deal with the Iran-backed group.

I admit, I’m not up on it but I’m curious if any of you are aware of it and what it means. It sounds completely ridiculous to me. Nobody I know worships Trump or have replaced Jesus’ teachings with some sort of man made religion that idolizes and worships Trump.

I can find items discussing MAGA theology but nothing about who coined it and any real examples of people that supposedly follow this new cult. So I’m curious if any of you have seen outright examples of this so-called theology. Thanks!

John 17:11 “And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.” I keep hearing all these people calling the pope "Holy Father, the Holy Father" but in John 17:11 Jesus Christ calls God The Father Holy Father, so it is objectively blasphemy for anyone to call themselves Holy Father, looking at it from a biblical objective standpoint, it is indefensible to call a pope "Holy Father" In fact it is insulting to bible believing Christians every time they use that name for the Pope, Even just looking at it objectively, that is blasphemy. Yet I keep hearing so many in the media and catholics using that name over and over for the pope, its deeply offensive as a Bible believing Christian.

The Bible Definition of Blasphemy: Speaking evil of God, dishonoring His name, claiming divine attributes as a human, or treating what is holy as common or unholy. (Exodus 20:7, Leviticus 24:16, Psalms 111:9, John 10:33, Mark 2:7, Revelation 15:4)

You can see How this is textbook blasphemy to call yourself Holy Father as a sinful human being

Witnessing for Jesus Christ, i.e. sharing the message of the gospel of our salvation with the people of the world, has a biblical foundation and a protocol for what must proceed our witnessing and what should be an active part of our witnessing. I believe the Lord wants me to talk on that today.

Our Personal Relationships with Jesus Christ

If we are going to share the gospel of our salvation, the gospel of Christ, with the people of the world, we must first of all, by faith in Jesus Christ, have died with Christ to sin, and we must now be walking in obedience to his commands in holy living, by his Spirit. For the gospel message that the Scriptures teach us say that to be of genuine faith in the Lord, and to be in fellowship with God, and to know God, we must die to sin and now obey him and his commandments, in practice, and sin must no longer be our practice. For if sin is our practice, and not obedience to God, we don’t know God.

We Must Be Sharing the Biblical Gospel Message

Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who is God, left his throne in heaven, came to earth, was born as a baby to a human mother, and lived on this earth as both fully God and fully human (God incarnate). While on the earth he performed all kinds of miracles and he preached death to sin and walks of obedience to him as necessary components of faith which saves. For he died on that cross to put our sins to death with him so that we will die to sin and now live for him in walks of obedience to his commands.

By God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience is what we obey, it results in sanctification and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

We Must Be Active Parts of the Biblical Body of Christ

According to the Scriptures, the church is the biblical body of Christ made up of us who have trusted in Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of our lives, who have died with him to sin, and who are now living to God and to his righteousness in walks of obedience to his commands. We are the church! The church is not a building, and it is not a human-based business incorporated under (partnered and combined with) the state, and it is not a church denomination. It is us, the people of God, who love and serve God.

And yet, it appears that the vast majority of what is called “church” here in America is incorporated under the state, and is being marketed to the world just like any other business. And so many have now altered the character of God, of his church, and of his gospel in order to make them more attractive and more acceptable and less offensive to the ungodly and to human flesh. And they are being run like businesses, relying heavily on marketing schemes and tricks and business models for how to “grow their churches.”

But the Scriptures teach that we are to not partner with the ungodly and that we are not to make his temple (our bodies, the church) into a marketplace, i.e. a place of business. But we are to be ministers to one another in encouraging (exhorting, urging) one another to live holy lives, pleasing to God, to no longer walk in sin, and to not be deceived by people in their cunning and craftiness and end up following after lies and not the truth. We are to help one another to follow the Lord in obedience.

In Summary

So, if we are going to be those who are sharing the message of the gospel of Christ with the ungodly of the world, and with the adulterous and idolatrous church, too, then we need to make certain that we are sharing the biblical gospel message that Jesus taught, and that his New Testament apostles taught, in their biblical context. And we need to be those who are living the gospel message in our everyday lives, for the glory of God, and so we are not trying to share with others what we are not living ourselves.

And we need to be actively engaged with the biblical body of Christ in ministering to one another for our mutual encouragement, not only for our own walks of faith in obedience to the Lord, but to give encouragement and support to one another and to pray for one another as we do go out into the world with the message of the gospel. And in all that we are, and in all that we do for God, it must be in agreement with the teachings of Christ and of his apostles and not according to human philosophy and worldly thinking.

And we must be those who, in sharing the truth of the gospel of our salvation, share with the people to whom we are witnessing, not only what a walk of faith in Jesus Christ should look like, but how by faith in Jesus Christ we now become part of his biblical body, the church, the people of God (not the institutions of the flesh), and how we are now to be ministers to one another within the biblical body of Christ for our mutual encouragement and for our walks of faith in obedience to our Lord.

I wonder how Columbia University would behave in the following scenario. A bunch of students and outside agitators descend on their campus. They are dressed in the gear of the Ku Klux Klan, being careful to conceal their faces so as to avoid any personal criticism. They then enter the university’s library and other sacred spaces of learning and chant for the lynching of black Americans.
Would Columbia University sit by while this happened? Would Democrat prosecutors and left-wing activists claim that this was simply a case of people exercising their free-speech rights? And would conservative pundits wishing to appear as being “on the right side of history” insist that the hooligans should be allowed to continue their threatening actions with impunity?

It is alarming and I think we need to stop the billions of dollars of foreign money used to influence students and the public to support terrorism.

The Bible tells us not to be "of the world". Is the Catholic Church of the world?

Maybe we can forget about the phony "St. Malachy Prophecies" now. U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, along with former presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, and scores of other elected officials throughout the country expressed joy and excitement over the selection of the first American pope, who is from Chicago.

Pope Leo XIV — formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost — was selected by the College of Cardinals in Rome Thursday on the second day of the papal conclave to serve as the immediate successor to Pope Francis, who died on April 21.

He is the first pope from the United States and from North America. Francis was the first pope from South America.

“Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just named pope,” Trump said in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Hubby just left to take her to the ER after speaking with the doctor. She has a low grade fever and feet and legs are swelling along with her abdomen. Not sure what is going on yet. Prayers appreciated.

The 69-year-old new Pope, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, was elected the first pope from the United States on Thursday. A native of Chicago, Leo spoke in Italian from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, addressing the hundreds of thousands of people waiting in the square and streets below.

“Peace be with you all. Dearest brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd, who has given his life for God’s flock. I too would like that this greeting of peace enters into your heart, reaching your families, and all people, wherever they are, to all peoples, to all the earth. Peace be with you,” Leo said in his opening lines.

The identity of the new Pope was announced just over an hour after white smoke billowed from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel. The cardinal-electors watched from balconies flanking the central loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica as Cardinal Dominique Mamberti declared in Latin: “Habemus papam!”
