Malevolent vs. benevolent dispositions and conservative political ideology in the Trump era

The rise of Trump has led me to believe that America has become more and more callous with disregard to the most needy. I've recently been looking into this area and found this. It's relatively recent in a decently respected Journal. This snippet sums it up quite well.
  • Conservative political ideology represented by symbolic and operational ideology and positive view of Trump
  • Psychopathic traits and malevolent disposition predicted increased conservative political ideology
  • Benevolent disposition predicted decreased conservative ideology--i.e., more liberal ideology
  • Those viewing Trump favorably reported elevated malevolent and reduced benevolent dispositions, and less empathy

Clearly, this not saying that all Trump supporters are psychopaths.

“Trust The Process”
Proverbs 3:5 NIV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

This past Saturday, I ran a 5K with a friend of mine from church. We were both really excited to run in the same race again. Before the race started, we were talking about setting pace and I mentioned how I wanted to get below a certain time. My friend offered to pace me and get my time lower. However, he told me to just listen to him, keep up and don’t look at my race watch. I agreed with the pace he told me and I ran along with him.

Throughout the race, we chatted a lot together and he commented on my breathing as well as asking me how I was feeling. He also encouraged me to keep up when he went faster and explained when he was going to go faster. The last mile, I was hurting and I had to mentally push myself to finish. I was exhausted, but at the end, I sprinted as well as I could. We crossed the line together and I took a few minutes to catch my breath.

When I looked at my final time, I almost fell down! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! He took me faster than I thought he would. He was sneaky and pushed me harder than the pace time he had originally said. Why?? Because he knew I was capable and could do it. Hearing that blew me away! I had an idea in mind and he took me beyond that! I trusted him to take me through the race and coach me to get a better time. And….he did!

I spent the rest of the day and weekend just blown away at what I had just done. But, I could NOT have done it if I ran on my own. He had a strategy in mind and knew what he was doing. I did not. I just trusted the process and gave it my all.

Friends, so often in our lives, we have our own ways and try to do so many things on our own. We want to improve, but we don’t know exactly how aside from what we think might work. My friend had actually recommended me to set a pace and keep that the entire race, so that was the first 5K race I had done that. It worked and it was amazing!

If we trust God in life and let go of what we think are good ideas and trust His process and timing, amazing things happen! All weekend, I just kept thanking God for this opportunity and for what my friend had pushed me and encouraged me to do. I just couldn’t believe I had done that well and didn’t think I was capable of it quite yet.

We have to trust His process. We have to trust and let Him guide, even when it hurts and we don’t think we can finish. If I had run the race on my own, this would not have happened. I am grateful for my friend’s encouragement and I am grateful that God gave me the endurance to finish this well.

When life gets tough, trust in Him and His process.

Israel Police finds no damage to Christian church after false claims of arson by Jewish settlers draw broad condemnation

The Israel Police announced on Monday that, contrary to previous reports, the Church of Saint George in the Christian village of Tabyeh was not damaged by a nearby fire.

"Contrary to misleading reports, no damage was caused to the Church of Saint George in Taybeh. The fire was limited to an adjacent open area, not the holy site. Emergency services received reports from local residents, including both Israelis and one Palestinian caller," the police stated.

Noting that they have started a "thorough investigation," the police statement added, "If arson is confirmed, justice will be pursued regardless of race or background. Due process is based on facts, not headlines."

Evangelical pastor, family massacred by terrorists in Syria; at least 20 dead

An Evangelical pastor and roughly 20 of his family members were killed over the weekend in Syria in what church officials described as a targeted massacre. The victims included his parents, siblings, their children and other close relatives.

Pastor Khalid Mezher, who led the Good Shepherd Evangelical Church in Suwayda, had converted from the Druze faith to Christianity along with his family several years ago, according to Premier.

He was widely known in the region for his ministry work and remained in Suwayda despite growing tensions and threats of violence.

Trump announces sweeping Japan trade deal with $550B investment by Tokyo

“We just completed a massive Deal with Japan, perhaps the largest Deal ever made. Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 Billion Dollars into the United States, which will receive 90% of the Profits,” Trump, 79, wrote on Truth Social.
“Perhaps most importantly, Japan will open their Country to Trade including Cars and Trucks, Rice and certain other Agricultural Products, and other things. Japan will pay Reciprocal Tariffs to the United States of 15%.”

So much for the naysayers.

Our brave law enforcement is facing an 830% increase in assaults against them and yet they continue to arrest violent criminals and drug traffickers every single day,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

This disastrous invasion, resulting in so many crimes, is due to leaders who thought they were above the laws of our nation.

I'd appreciate prayer.

Please would you pray for me? Lots of issues; feeling very sad. Especially the hurt I've received from an opposite sex friend: Please pray that this will get sorted out. Also for a breakthrough in my finances. The Lord provides everything I need, but I feel it will help the depression I suffer from if I was able to travel a bit or find my birth family. Finally the Lord wants me to do some writing on aspects of my life. The sadness I feel, because of the upset with my friend, is preventing me from doing this. Please pray that I will get on with the writing and that my friend will be kind and nice to me when I see him on Sunday, or preferably will contact me before then. Also that he will be willing to stay friends despite making new ones where he has just moved to. I've had so much rejection in my life; I don't think I can handle any more.

Thank you and God bless!

trumps ambasador calls canadians nasty.

it is hilarious watching the entitlement of trump and his cabinet and such. They attack us, repeatedly insult, threaten and mock us, but complain because we don't want anything to do with the US. I guess americans were nasty for decades because of Cuba. It's so funny how trump loves to insult and attack everyone else, but they are mean, or nasty if they respond in kind.

Carnival Cruise’s new rules spark backlash

Carnival Cruise’s new rules spark backlash

Among the notorious cruise line’s new “Have fun. Be Safe.” guidelines are bans on specifically non-electric handheld fans on dance floors, along with drinks, children under 18 in public areas after 1 am unless accompanied by an adult or at a designated teen event, Bluetooth speakers, loud music, cannabis, smoking, and more. Meanwhile, recent cruisers with the cruise line have begun to complain on social media about what they claim is an unofficial ban on rap and hip hop music.

While speaking to Parade, Matt Lupoli, Senior Manager of Public Relations at Carnival Cruise Line, said, “Unfortunately, certain media outlets have blown this matter out of proportion.”

Carnival Cruise Line has developed a reputation not just as a party ship or budget-friendly cruise line but as a cruise line where unsavory shenanigans, including theft and fights, can sometimes go down.

The Art of (Epstein) Distraction

Trump is desperate to put the Epstein story behind him....with limited success. In just the past few days Trump has commented (mostly on Truthsocial)"

“How did [former USAID administrator] Samantha Power make all of that money?”

Threatened to "scuttle a stadium deal if the Washington Commanders football team doesn’t change its name back to the Washington Redskins."

"....highlighted a memo from his director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, that said Obama administration officials planned a “treasonous conspiracy in 2016” aimed at Trump. Emphasizing the point, he posted an AI-generated video of Barack Obama being arrested in the Oval Office."

Posted a three minute clip of a "woman snatching an approaching snake from the grass, a car sliding under a truck barreling along a highway, and no fewer than four people doing tricks on motorcycles and jet skis."

Tulsi Gabbard announced "the release of hundreds of thousands of documents related to the 1968 assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. "

"Trump on Monday called for an immediate end to cashless bail and railed against the federal judge overseeing Harvard University's challenge to the Trump administration's withholding billions of federal funds from the school, calling her a "TOTAL DISASTER."

Why Hiring Professors With Conservative Views Could Backfire on Conservatives

Is hiring more conservative professors and admitting more conservative students a solution to liberal bias in American higher education?

Many people think so. The Trump administration, in threatening to cut Harvard’s federal funding, demanded that the university foster greater “viewpoint diversity,” including by recruiting faculty members and students who would restore ideological balance to campus.

But a policy of hiring professors and admitting students because they have conservative views would actually endanger the open-minded intellectual environment that proponents of viewpoint diversity say they want. By creating incentives for professors and students to have and maintain certain political positions, such a policy would discourage curiosity and reward narrowness of thought.

Would a deliberate effort to hire professors with conservatives views backfire or create balance? The example of Robert Nozick is given in the article as an someone who had an obvious Libertarian view but was hired for intellectual rigor and not his politics. Is that a good example?

ETA: The author concedes that there is liberal bias in US universities.

When The penny drops.

In my experience, people who leave evangelicalism turn to atheism, and they generally don't turn back. There are exceptions. But generally, they go to atheism, and that's where they stay. And my observations of people I've known who were Jehovah's Witnesses, and some of them have been good friends, is the same.

This gets me to wondering if the shock of leaving evangelicalism-the transition away from that quite encompassing system of faith, and similarly with Jehovah's Witnesses-is so great that when the person leaves, they tend to reject all religion, and to do so permanently.

After I had become a Catholic, I had an SMS conversation with a Presbyterian minister who expressed fairly profound surprise that I had embraced Catholicism and thus had returned to Christianity. What he wrote in his SMSs gave me the impression that he expected that I would have become an atheist and would have never returned to Christianity, in any way, shape, or form. I can only guess, but I imagine that what he was saying was both based on his reading of Hebrews 6 and possibly pastoral experience as well. He will be one of the readers of this perhaps. I'm not sure if he will read it or not, and he will recognise that conversation if his memory is good. I mention the conversation only as corroborative evidence for what I'm about to say and what I've already observed.

It seems to me that Evangelicalism, along with Pentecostalism, possibly Jehovah's Witnesses, and maybe Mormons and others have a tendency to produce ex members who are atheists. I think the same may be true to a degree of Catholicism and Orthodoxy. But I think it's probably more pronounced in those more encompassing religions, such as evangelicalism. My thinking is that the devastation of the loss of that whole complex and embracing system of religion leaves such a strong vacuum that the person regards all religion as a write off. And if I'm not mistaken, that is the expectation of Calvinism to a degree, seemingly the expectation of those who are very strongly five pointed Calvinists (TULIP embracing Calvinism). But I may be wrong.

If anybody cares to comment, I would appreciate hearing from them. Especially anybody who has some direct experience with this or direct interest in it.
