One the flip side, they only need one recording for two countries.I vote for "My Country Tis of Thee" just to cause confusion when we're in international sporting competitions against the UK.
Can someone give me a genuinely good reason for the continued existence of national anthems?
Anyway, the SSB is one of the better ones. By national anthem standards it is not overly jingoistic or glorifying of war (some nations' anthems are ridiculous in that regard), and the tune is ok, if a little tricky to sing. It's certainly a darn site better than ours here in Britain, which is a dirge with lyrics that are a complete embarassment.
I realized that after I posted the poll. So sorry, some of us are not perfect and do make mistakes. No "bait and switch" was intended. Of course you could always check the choice of "other" and then list the Statr Spangled Banner in your post as others have done. The "bait and switch" technique in CF polls is getting popular, I see. Create a thread that asks a question ("should we do this...or that instead?")...and then include a poll on which one of the options or choices identified in the title of the thread isn't even listed.
No. The Star Spangled Banner expresses respect and touches on the history of how this nation came to be and therein have a national anthem.Lady Gaga has received considerable and well-deserved praise for her recent performance of the Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl. However, there has been an ongoing debate regarding the US National Anthem since the Star Spangled Banner was adopted in 1931. Is is time to replace the Star Spangled Banner and, if so, what song should replace it?
No worse than some celebrities have done.
