Luke 6:26 'Be merciful, just as your father is merciful'

or

Judges 19:29
When he had entered his house, he took a knife, and grasping his concubine he cut her into twelve pieces, limb by limb, and sent her throughout all the territory of Israel

One represents my theology in a phrase. The other represents the reason I don't generally try and proof text everything I do from the bible... :)

Excellent reasoning, on both counts.

I know I asked for one verse only, but several wicked souls have slipped in more than one, and some complete degenerates have quoted half the Old Testament.

However, whatever is meaningful to you, I suppose. :)

Many thanks to all contributors. There are some really good verses there, and I have really enjoyed reading them.

Any other suggestions?

Mark 13:23
"But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things."

The bible has the answers and then my other two would be the places where Jesus asked people.....Have ye not read?

and Psalm 119

and that Jesus came in the volume of the Book
Hebrews 10:7 and Psalm 40

I have one verse of the Bible which I meditate on a lot, to the extent that I think it has defined my faith, and indeed my whole theology. I am forever quoting it on this forum. :D I suspect that others may have their own favourites, and would be interested to know what these verses may be.

This might seem an odd verse, but here it is. The context is Moses asking to be shown God's glory

Exodus 33 v 19

Then He said, "I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion"

When you place this statement alongside the character and example of Christ, you can see the fulfillment of Our Lord's claim that he and his Father are one and the same. It also reminds us that we cannot judge, because God's mercy is beyond our understanding.

So, any other verses? Thanks.

That is a very deep verse, and not the easiest in the world to understand. In fact, even after reading it three times I couldn't understand what the blessed Paul was rabbiting on about.

But I can see why it appeals.
I agree completely. I've never fully understood what he meant, but to me it is saying that I never do what I want to do and I always do what I don't want to do.

There are many verses which stand out for me but here are some of my favourite single verses (translation: ESV):

Job 19:25. For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.

Psalm 62:7 On God rest my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Hebrews 7:25. He (Jesus) is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Revelation 21:3. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people and God himself will be with them as their God."

of my "top ten" most have been taken and posted here... I am left with my favorite passage of all time:
(and sorry I couldn't limit it to just verse 9)

Psa 119:9 BET.
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed [thereto] according to thy word.
Psa 119:10With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.

I know two people have already responded with this one (well, the Matthew version of the same saying anyway) but it bears repeating:

And {Jesus} answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

sunlover, that's one of my favourites! the whole book of James is one of my favourite books.
1 John 4:15 - Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath for us. God is love, and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

And you won't believe this, but I am forever telling my children "because as He is, so are we in this world"!

Hmm, too cool.

I personally don't mind if this one is quoted on every page.

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
I John 1:5 (NIV)
I would add more to really explain my theology- but this is the basis for all else.

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39

Amen, and Amen!
