I have one verse of the Bible which I meditate on a lot, to the extent that I think it has defined my faith, and indeed my whole theology. I am forever quoting it on this forum. :D I suspect that others may have their own favourites, and would be interested to know what these verses may be.

This might seem an odd verse, but here it is. The context is Moses asking to be shown God's glory

Exodus 33 v 19

Then He said, "I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion"

When you place this statement alongside the character and example of Christ, you can see the fulfillment of Our Lord's claim that he and his Father are one and the same. It also reminds us that we cannot judge, because God's mercy is beyond our understanding.

So, any other verses? Thanks.
James 2:5
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love
him?

Peace be with You All

Ahhhh! Good to know because about 90% of those "so and so begats" don't mean a whole lot to me. :sorry:
tulc(I do like the gospel parts though!) ;)
They do have meaning, brother. We are not just community in Christ, but family.

WOW when we one is all we can pick from so many we have to make it a good one.

Psa 119:1 ALEPH. Blessed [are] the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
Psa 119:2 Blessed [are] they that keep his testimonies, [and that] seek him with the whole heart.
Psa 119:3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.
Psa 119:4 Thou hast commanded [us] to keep thy precepts diligently.
Psa 119:5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
Psa 119:6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.
Psa 119:7 I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.
Psa 119:8 I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.
Psa 119:9 BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed [thereto] according to thy word.
Psa 119:10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
Psa 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Psa 119:12 Blessed [art] thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.
Psa 119:13 With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.
Psa 119:14 I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as [much as] in all riches.
Psa 119:15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
Psa 119:16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
Psa 119:17 GIMEL. Deal bountifully with thy servant, [that] I may live, and keep thy word.
Psa 119:18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
Psa 119:19 I [am] a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.
Psa 119:20 My soul breaketh for the longing [that it hath] unto thy judgments at all times.
Psa 119:21 Thou hast rebuked the proud [that are] cursed, which do err from thy commandments.
Psa 119:22 Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies.
Psa 119:23 Princes also did sit [and] speak against me: [but] thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.
Psa 119:24 Thy testimonies also [are] my delight [and] my counsellors.

Amen! Those who choose to discard verses that don't suite their preconceived notions aren't truly following the entire word of God. Sometimes it takes a little work to learn why certain things are in His word, after all those who are diligent will be rewarded. You are absolutely right, there are no extras.

Jesus seemed to like these:
Matt. 22: 36-40 said:
36Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment.
39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
;)
tulc(tries not to argue with Jesus too much!) :)

Ephesians 2:8 - 10
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.

This to me is the motto of a servant. I have a servant's heart and I find myself quoting it frequently - though I don't know if I would say my theology is based off it.

We have to follow all that Jesus said. Not just the verse or two that we like.
We don't have to, but should definitely desire to. Peace be with you, brother, and welcome to CF!
