  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Tried on wedding dresses for the first time today!! Unfortunately my family had a different favorite than I did...

Have you bought one yet or are you still in the trying on phase?

Still trying on- I probably would have bought if my family loved the same one I did.. But now I'm super confused.

I would definitely go with your gut about your dress. Unless your parents or someone has like real concerns about it, I think it's really up to the bride. That's just my two cents though. :D

Definitely up to the bride ultimately, but when my sis got married the whole family agreed when she found THE dress. Well the whole family did that today as well... Just not on the dress I loved most. And it was definitely a beautiful second choice.

Yeah I'm the same way. I'd rather put money into a house, or the honeymoon, something like that. :)

Amen. Well now that you're here you've reminded me from your food pics in that other thread that I want southern food at my wedding. Maybe some peach cobbler on account of how I don't care for cake that much, lol.

I didn't have any money for a fancy wedding or to put into a house or honeymoon. We scraped together $600 for the wedding chapel so we would have pictures for the kids and I bought my dress for something like $35 off a clearance rack and beaded it myself and made my veil. We wanted to be married. I got a diamond ring for Christmas 13 years later. I wouldn't have done it any other way.

Ooh that sounds good! I love cake but peach cobbler sounds like a good substitute. I've always wondered what to have as food for the reception. I've always had an idea of some sort of buffet. Like maybe a taco buffet, or home style buffet like with fried chicken and all the fixings. OR Maybe a Christmas dinner buffet, like ham and turkey and the fixings. :p

Ok I've decided this is the thread I shall dump wedding stuff as I plan it :) our theme is whimsical enchanted woods so I decided anthropomorphic animals were appropriate for our invitations. This lady from Fiverr created bride and groom versions of our cats.. I know it's silly but I love it!

My dad and I decided on our first dance. We're going to do that super cheesy thing where we start with a slow song then the record scratches and it becomes a fast song.

We'll start out dancing to Father and Daughter by Paul Simon while a slideshow of the two of us as I grew up plays behind us. Then the music will skip and suddenly a music video that we made back when I was super young for one of our daddy daughter date nights will play. It features us in sunglasses and big jackets singing in wooden spoons to Carmen's "Who's in the House?" I'm hiring someone on Fiverr to make really silly choreography for us to dance along with.

Bonus picture- a music video we did that same night to Carmen's Revival in the Land. I am a demon and yes, that is a sock on my head.

This thread is so cute! I'm certainly not planning on being wed anytime soon, but it's fun to read about others' dream weddings and fantasize about my own.

Personally, I would want one that's inexpensive, but elegant. I've always wanted to have an outdoor wedding ever since I was a child, so there wouldn't be as much need for decorating. I'd like a very natural theme, perhaps with blue and silver as wedding colors, to bring to mind the sky with silver-lined clouds, and whatever decor we'd have would be rustic. Nothing too extravagant, and very family-friendly. (Are dances geared towards children a thing at weddings? Because I think it'd be great to have some!)

I'd be willing to compromise on a lot if my future spouse wanted to be involved in the planning, but one thing I absolutely must have is a wedding dress inspired by 1950's fashion, simple, modest, and feminine. Everything else is negotiable. :p

I said yes to the dress today!!! So excited. It really was a thing where once I found the right one I just knew. Here are a couple that were very pretty (in my opinion) but not it.

Made my replica of Jessica Simpson's sweatsuit for getting wedding ready... weird childhood dream I had to fulfill :)

Also did some playing around and figured out table arrangements!
