People 60 and over get discounts at restaurants, for travel, and other good benefits. At some places, people age 65 and over can take college classes without having to pay a tuition, only for books. At age 65 one can have Medicare, and exercise for free at various fitness places.

God used older people in the Bible:

Moses and Aaron were chosen to lead the Israelites out of Egyptian bondage, at the ages of 80 and 83 (Ex. 7:7).

Joshua was chosen to lead the conquest of Canaan in the last 30 years of his life; he died at age 110 (Josh. 24:29).

Daniel was over 80 when he:

a. Served as one of three governors over the kingdom of
Babylon - Dan 6:1-3
b. Was thrown into the lions' den - Dan 6:4-27
c. Prospered in the reigns of Darius and Cyrus the Persian
- Dan 6:28
d. Received a series of visions - Dan 8-12

Paul referred to himself as "the aged", or "an old man" in Philemon 1:9. At this time of his life he was:

a. Busy writing letters (Eph, Col, Phi, Phe), even while in
prison
b. Traveling, visiting, encouraging churches, when he was
released from prison

There are many other examples of how God used people in the Bible who were older to serve Him.

This is encouraging that God still uses people for His purposes and plan when they are in their 50's and older. We are never too old in serving or being used by the Lord.

It's probably pretty close to a sin (and certainly a grievous error) that congregations don't make full use of older members.

Of course God still uses such people...scripture specifically says that such older people should be the primary source of teachers for younger memnbers. There should not be any division between the old and the young in congregations.

When a person really lived off the land - milking their few cows for milk and cream, milking their goats, spinning the wool of the goats, planting vegie seeds wherever they could, using all space available, feeding their chooks/chickens for daily eggs (instead of purchasing the eggs), being more totally self sufficient and killing some of their own crossbred sheep for meat. Parents and (deceased Grandparents).
