1 Cor 12:12-14, 27-31a

Brothers and sisters:
As a family is one though it has many parts,
and all the parts of the family, though many, are one family,
so also Christ.
For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one Body,
whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons,
and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.

Now the family is not a single part, but many.

Now you are Christ’s family, and individually parts of it.
Some people God has designated in the Church
to be, first, Apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers;
then, mighty deeds;
then gifts of healing, assistance, administration,
and varieties of tongues.
Are all Apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers?
Do all work mighty deeds? Do all have gifts of healing?
Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.

(Matthew 7:21-22-23) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
(Mat 7:22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
(Mat 7:23) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Thanks, Roger459

It seems clear to me that some will have multiple gifts and others maybe one gift. I know some claim we should have all gifts, but you clearly show that is not the case. This is why, no matter which church God has led me to attend, I follow what is in the Word and not men's traditions.

I'm not sure I understand the question or the first reply. Did I miss something? Surely I did. But, let me say this. Do not strive for the greatest spritual gifts. You can not earn gifts, that is why they are GIFTS!! God gives them to you. They are without repentance. This means you can not get rid of them even if you are living in sin. Instead, strive for the best you can be with your gift. Your gift is no better or worse than another. Only we see distinctions. God sees the plan He laid down for you. In His plan your gift is the only one you need or want. The rest would distract you. We all have a purpose. The foot may not like being walked on but without the foot, how could the body travel? The eye may wish to speak but then how should we see? Do not envy other gifts. Be proud of your own and fulfill God's plan for you. The Bible says this somewhere, unfortunately I do not remember where right now. If someone else sees this and knows, please post it.

Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.

But I shall show you a still more excellent way.

If I speak in human and angelic tongues
but do not have love,
I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy
and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge;
if I have all faith so as to move mountains,
but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give away everything I own,
and if I hand my body over so that I may boast
but do not have love, I gain nothing.
