Would you quit your job if?

Would you quit your job if you had to teach creationism in order to keep that job?

  • Yes, I would quit the job, forget the money.

  • No, I would not quit a good paying job over something like that.

Being forced to spread lies in order to appease the Religious Right? Not my definition of a dream job.

Yes, but that's essentially the job of any history teacher....well, I guess they don't spread lies, they just don't tell the whole truth.

I personally believe in evolution, but have no problem teaching biblical things to people for money....it'd be like being any other fictional literature instructor.

If it were my dream job, I wouldn't be obliged to teach lies. I would teach the truth, get a lawyer, and call the ACLU (else why do I pay my dues), as my dream teaching job wouldn't be at a private institution.

But I wouldn't quit.

That is why the Bible is the most accurate history book there is. In fact there is no book anywhere in the world that is as accurate as the Bible is.

Really. So snakes and asses can talk? And cockatrices and dragons existed? And day and night were created before the sun? And an omnipotent god cannot defeat iron chariots? And the dead can be raised after they stinketh? And demons can be driven out of people into swine? Etc.? Etc.? Ad infinitum?

These are all claims without proof. How can you KNOW that the above is "accurate"? Belief? That doesn't count. Children believe in Santa. Kung tribesmen in Africa believe in spirits in trees, mountains, and rivers. Muslims believe that Mohammed rose up into heaven on a white horse.

If you got nothing but belief - then, you've got nothing.

Nobody ever does.

"History is a myth men agree to believe." -- Napoleon.

"When the legend becomes fact, print the legend." --Maxwell Scott, The Man who Shot Liberty Vallance.

"History books are written by winners, more often than not in the blood of the losers." --Nathan Poe

I personally believe in evolution, but have no problem teaching biblical things to people for money....it'd be like being any other fictional literature instructor.

I teach fictional literature for a living -- and at least I'm allowed to tell my students it's fiction. I'll happily teach about mythology, and debunk it with a smile, but I won't knowingly prop one up as "history."

What did you think "The Devil and Daniel Webster" was about? Oh no. It wasn't about a farmer selling his soul.

It was about Webster's vile descent into SIN and EVIl. And then he changed his name to Noah. DO NOT BELIEVE THE MYTH THAT IT IS FICTION

Yep, cover to cover the Bible is all true.

These are all claims without proof.
Evolution is the biggest myth and fairly tale there ever was. Yet people believe that.

How can you KNOW that the above is "accurate"? Belief? That doesn't count.
Accurate does not seem to could when it comes to evolution. I can assure you though that the Bible is accurate. It has proven itself to be accurate over the last 3500 years.

Children believe in Santa.
And adults believe in Evolution. Christians believe in St Nicholas that was a bishop around 1500 years ago. He was also in charge of an orphanage and use to give gifts to the kids if they were good, or he would give them coal or sticks to put in the fire if they were bad. Also they would wash their socks out and hang them by the fire, and sometimes he would put candy in their shoes or in their socks while they were sleeping. If they were good.

If you got nothing but belief - then, you've got nothing.
If you look at it from that perspective, then evolutionists have nothing. Less than nothing really. Because there is nothing of any substance to their theory at all.

At least when most people have lived their life they have a hand full of dust to show for it all. Without God then it is dust to dust and ashes to ashes.

Nothing to support your ideas, so toss in a few random swipes at evolution, eh Johnny?

A random (at at least somewhat accurate) history lesson tossed in for no reason.

Another baseless (and pointless) swipe at science, and some random preaching.

Barkeep! Where's that drink?

This NIV Bible I have is 700+ pages. Even if every word was 100% true, it doesn't have the 1000+ pages of Gray's Anatomy with every single body part detailed and capable of being observed.

Edit: Oh you said history book. So let me find. I'm sure they're out there.

Actually, I have a book on object-oriented design in C++...so far I've been able to prove everything in the book works....I've yet to get 2.5 million animals in a 450 foot ark.

based on the poll results, it appears those who would quit are somewhat fanatics. They are not interested in what are alternative, progressive presentations of the origin of life. They are only interested in furthering their cause.

Fascinating.

Ehh...

I would quit a job teaching history if I had to teach that there had been no holocaust.

I would quit a job teaching Geography if I had to teach that there is only two continents.

..., but I suppose we should teach 'progressive presentations' of History and Geography

To prove i am just 'furthering my cause' you would have to disprove evolution - something which no-one has yet achieved. Your Nobel Prize awaits.

What I find fascinating is that you would consider it fanatical to hold "alternative, progressive presentations" in lesser esteem than truthful ones.

Here is what you don't understand: I am the one that determines the proof required.

If you run out of the schoolroom screaming "GAAAAAHHHHH I'M NOT TEACHING ALTERNATIVE PRESENTATIONS OF LIFE" -and- quit your job, then you are, by definition, a fanatic.

In a similar fashion, you would have to disprove creation. But, apparently, this was an angle that you apparently failed to consider.

I'm not asking for a Nobel Prize out of you. Just simple clear thought. Or, in your case, damage assessment.

So you want me to acquire a Nobel Prize? What, skiing as a professional athlete on the pro water ski tour wasn't satisfactory for you? You don't ask much, do ya, eh?

What level of proof do you require? Why do you get to set the level of proof?

Not all presentations have the same value.

I would say I am not a fanatic as I am willing to change my views should suitable evidence be found.

I can disprove a 6000 (ish) year old earth. (at least on the evidence presented)
However I can't disprove that the IPU created the whole universe last tuesday.

I don't ask anything of you and have very little interest in professional athletes. Although I do watch the Superbowl every year with a group of friends.

I notice you avoided the challenge. You didn't disprove evolution. you just blustered and (i think) bragged.
