Have you ever attended a Lutheran church (specifically, LCMS)?

No I have not. The only church I've ever attended was Catholic and I wasn't really paying attention.

What do the Lutherans have to say?

I'll hear any argument out, but I would rather read it as the format is best for in depth analysis of the structure and language of the argument.

I don't generally think that persuasive arguments are why people believe in Gods though, it is not my experience that people reason themselves into theism, but rather that they try to justify their beliefs using reason.

Many unbelievers here seem to say "all churches are the same". Not that they don't recognize churches have their differences, but I think they mean all churches have the same fundamental flaw. I can see why they would think that, but I don't think it's necessarily true.

What do the Lutherans have to say?

Your comment that only God "showing Himself" would convince you of his existence caught my attention, as that would agree with Lutheran theology - that you're not going to believe until God reveals Himself to you - that you can't reason your way to God.

However, expectations of what that revelation would entail can make things difficult.

Imagine that a famous philosopher of religion has developed a new argument regarding the existence of God. If you are a theist, imagine that the philosopher is an atheist arguing against the existence of God. If you are an atheist, imagine that the philosopher is a theist arguing for the existence of God.

This philosopher's argument is considered to be the single most conclusive argument regarding God's existence every devised. 90% of the people who have heard the argument have reversed their position, including some of the biggest names in the field, people who have written books and debated in favor of their position for their entire professional lives. All it takes is to listen to a thirty-minute presentation explaining this new argument.

The philosopher is coming to your hometown and will be presenting his argument.

Would you go and listen?

well first of all I will say that whether I decided to go or not go that i'm not 90% of people.

I would go if it was free >;] and i am sure that it would be very interesting.

Why not? Have you that little faith in your beliefs that you won't even hear someone out? Are you afraid they might convince you?

Not at all. It's just that I'm not interested and, after 2,000 years of Christian theology, thought, and philosophy, I doubt he's going to say anything we haven't heard before.

You should have been around for the 10,000 years prior! Jesus was the cherry on top of a long baked cake...

I can understand that view coming from a theist. And I don't mean that in any bad way.

I'm glad you see it like such. Nor would I be forcing atheists to race to hear Christian evangelists either.

Of course I would go, I think only a dishonest person would refuse to go.
