  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thank you Luther :)

I don't think I was disrespectful towards you at all. This board can get pretty heated sometimes, but I don't think this thread is like that. With that being said get some thicker skin because the real world is a lot more unforgiving than this board will ever be.
In fact, if you truly want to continue following Christ you will face opposition and criticism, and if you think my replies to you are harsh, what are you going to do when you get villified by unbelievers? In either case I mean no disrespect towards you.

I do have a thick skin and nothing you said really bothered me at all and it wasn't anything that I haven't heard many times on this board before. I did appreciate what Luther said and told him that, that doesn't mean that I was feeling attacked, because I wasn't.

I was just telling Luther that I appreciated him doing that, thats all. I'm not defensive or feeling vilified in the least :)

I think we get too caught up in denominationalism. I don't consider myself a hardcore Pentecostal, I don't speak in tongues, doesn't mean I don't believe in it.. but often times on an occasional Sunday service someone will start going Tongue Active but no interpretation to follow and my Senior Pastor has to follow with his interpretation and I am debating to myself whether tongues is for this Church age, and I am not yet made up my mind on the subject.

I am a Christian hardcore, Protestant, but as far as Pentecostal only because I go to a Foursquare church but Foursquare, at least the one I go to is very very balanced and Biblical and my Senior Pastor is good friends with guys like John MacArthur who is somewhat not a fan of some Pentecostal beliefs like tongues.

Not everyone receives the same gifts...at least that's what I believe...each person is unique and I believe the Lord gives gifts according to each person...does that mean that we can't ask Him for a gift and receive it no, but I don't think speaking in tongues or not speaking in tongues makes you any more or less a pentecostal :D

I actually have more qualms about dating outside my political preferences than I have about dating outside any particular Christian school of thought.

I could deal with Pentecostal, so long as they don't ascribe to the uncommon heresies or practices I have seen in some Pentecostal churches.

I could deal with Catholicism, so long as they don't ascribe to "Mary worship" or the deification of the Saints.

I could not deal with Jehovah's Witness, Mormonism, or Christian Science. I could not deal with legalism.

That pretty much covers it.

I would date anyone that believed that Jesus Christ was born and rose again and saved us from our sins. As well, he must have a loving relationship and/or desire to know God. Also, he must have a desire to study and learn from the Holy Bible. Aka, he must be going to heaven with me and therefore believe in SALVATION through JESUS CHRIST.

Denomination is not an issue but I know that many United churches to not preach salvation so this may even disclude some Protestants.
Hey, that reminds me, I forgot to mention unitarians.

Unitarians: absolutely not

I prefer to aviod people who can't think for themselves. There's way too much blind faith among Pentacostal congregations. Pentacostal churches are also predominantly run by Masons.
Where do you get your information? Most pentecostals discourage getting involved in the Masons. Ever heard of Saints Alive, Ex Mormans for Jesus and also focus on exposing the truth of Masonery? They are pentecostals, they went to my church.

Actually, the only Masons that go to any church go to a Lutheran church (sorry Luther), and Shriners I know don't go to church.

For the most part I'd say no but it really depends. There are several denominations that have pretty similar beliefs to me and I'd be fine dating someone from there but there are definitely denominations that I'd avoid. The guy I'm seeing now is actually went to the same church as I did when we were kids and 15 years later we met again at a church in college.
That said my roommate is Catholic and her fiance is Baptist and they've been together for almost 4 years. I'm sure everyone knows a couple like that, I'd just rather not have to worry about complications and things like that.
