Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would you date outside your denomination?

Would you date outside your denomination?

  • Doesn't matter either way.

ok, since everyone else has weighed in.... I will not weigh in and keep these scales weird.... just kidding.....

If she was Methodist, Lutheran, Any kind of Baptist but Free Will or Landmark, or even Wesleyan as long as she is Conservative in her beliefs (Bible is The Whole Revealed Word of God, Triune Godhead,
Repentance and Faith is all we needed for Personal Salvation(Jesus is responsible, we are wrong, we admit we're sinful, need Him, and go from ourselves to truly follow the one we weren't following), Women aren't Preachers or teachers over men IN CHURCH ONLY(In Accordance with the Bible) but can do anything else anywhere else, etc.....)

Other denominations may be ok, but I don't know enough about Moravian's, and other groups.... like those that go to "Bible Church" some of which are in line with Baptist Theology, and there are other small denominations that talking to some members I might be ok with.... like the one that guy I did a Bible study with in College was from... the name escapes me though......

but Catholics not if it can be helped in anyway, like her becoming a Baptist......
and rather be single forever than go out with to Mormons, Jehovah's Witness, Seven Day Adventists,Oneness Pentecostals and others who aren't Following Biblical Christianity as I have come to understand it.....
and would be friends with, but can't see us getting along so well if we were to date and try marriage; regular Pentecostals, Anyone from the first group that doesn't believe in the basics of the faith, anyone who might fall under that parasol I didn't name....

Actually, the only Masons that go to any church go to a Lutheran church (sorry Luther), and Shriners I know don't go to church.

None taken, I've never met any Lutheran Masons but I have never met any Mason's period.

I'm curious though, which Lutheran church do they go to? Is it ELCA, LCMS, or WELS?

I actually have more qualms about dating outside my political preferences than I have about dating outside any particular Christian school of thought.

I could deal with Pentecostal, so long as they don't ascribe to the uncommon heresies or practices I have seen in some Pentecostal churches.

.

explain please.

I could date outside of my denomination, I mean, I would prefer to date within, but hey...

there are exceptions though...like obvious ones...JW, Mormonism, and some others

and I really don't think I could date someone who held the five points of calvinism as true ( or even if they held a select couple of them) ((Shudder)) Sorry...just couldn't do it...

I could deal with Catholicism, so long as they don't ascribe to "Mary worship" or the deification of the Saints.

hmm....I would say Catholics don't ascribe to either...that's something that's highly (and sadly)...very misunderstood by a lot of people.

We are from a pentacostal church and we don't deny it.
yeah but there is a very big difference between pentacostalism and oneness pentacostalism ;) Oneness is pure cultism. any other Pentacostal church i would have to take on its own to see if it was sound or not but i wouldn't mind going to a good sound Pentacostal church. You'd never catch me in a oneness church (unless i was researching it for an apologetic article or something)because there's no such thing as a sound oneness church :p

I am non-denominational and prefer to stay that way. I would date some deominations but would try to convert them to non-denominational and just Bible believing. I would not date anyone from a cult such as Mormons, JW's or Seventh day Advents. Since I am a woman, I definitely don't want my man to make me go denominational. I'm not against them per se, I'd just rather not be "religious".

Oneness Penecostal believes that God the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit and just different ways of understanding God not distinct and not having different roles, they believe that God Himself the Father died on the Cross, is the Spirit that's in true believers only, is the one who's on the throne and will come back with sword in hand in a bodily form while remaining a spirit(?how?)

Their Understanding is akin to saying to a non-comic reader that the Green Lantern is Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Kyle Rainer all at the same time... which is not true, because while each man was G.L. they were not G.L. at the same time, and their use of the powers of the Ring were done differently from each other.

In other words, they have missed the mark so much they aren't shooting for the target board anymore but are aiming at another target all together......
the more I think about Oneness the more it sounds like Hinduism.... "Why seekest thou after Brahman my son? Thou art That" --- Hindu tale, Humble Farmer to his son the Priest during a crisis of faith..... explaining that the Hindu God is not seperate selfs but is in fact in all living and non-living things....
ok, it's not completely the same, but it's close enough....

That said, all of the above was on Oneness.... the below is on "Regular Pentecostals"
I could not date one because I could not marry one, our beliefs and understandings of the spiritual gifts of God are to different, theologically they are not compatible, and whoever I marry is going to have to agree with me on the church we will go to and raise our children up in....

then what do they believe??/
that there is just one person in the Godhead that manifests itself in three different forms depending on what he feels at the moment. as opposed to the Trinity found in Scripture: One God but three different persons, co-equal and co-eternal.

my fiance' is baptist raised, and I was raised non-denominational...but we both found a great non-denominational church that we can both worship at...I think in the end it's all about RELATIONSHIP with GOD, if you are on two different pages, then it's not going to work...so I voted it doesnt matter either way

Good question, it doesn't say. I went there a few times as a child. I believe they are considered ELCA.
