Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that you should listen to people. I agree that it is a command. All that I'm saying is that if you choose to work on the 7th day, you should at least set aside a day for the same purpose. Like I said, I'm not saying "pretend" it is the Sabbath. I am simply saying to at least set aside a day for that same purpose. I am in no way saying to oppose what the bible says. I am saying that if you choose to work on that day to at least set aside another day for God. I believe everyday is for God but sometimes life gets in the way of specific commands. I am not saying that it is right but I am saying that it does. I think that if you can't or won't or don't obey that command it is at least better to set aside somthing for God rather than forget that he deserves a least a day. I understand the Sabbath day and I understand the command. I am just saying to give God at least a day and I don't think there is anything wrong with saying that. God bless all!

You seem to be under the assumption that it is just a day set aside for the Lord but that is not what it is. When the 10 commandments were written by the Lord the fourth started with the word "REMEMBER". this means to bring to mind, and in this case it was an anniversary, an anniversary that is to be celebrated once a week, every seven days, but not just any old seven days, on THE seventh day which is still the same despite the names that came later, and the object if to rest from your labors, all your family, your employees and your animals. During this time you are to contemplate the wonders that the Lord performed on those first six days. This is a day to learn more about the Lord ( reading his word) and for teaching others, children about him, or friends family, neighbors. It is a full day to put your full concentration on the Lord, not just an hour of two. Worship ( singing ) can and should be part of this but this is not just for that, singing songs in worship to the Lord can also be done while you work so you shouldn't think that is a reason for this day. It is a time to pray and be refreshed in the Holy Spirit to carry you through out the next week.



This rest does not include however, sports mowing the lawn, having a party, visiting amusement parks, etc.



Even in Israel where the Jewish population is only a minority of orthodox the stores are closed at sundown Friday and remain closed until Saturday night. If you want something you have to go into the Arab sections.

I was at an interview today for a part time job in a store, they told me I would have to work on some Sundays and asked me if my religious beliefs forbid it or anything, I panicked because I wasn't sure and I just said it was fine.

I'm wondering if working on Sundays is against Christian beliefs? I know we're supposed to keep the Sabbath Holy, but the non-working thing was for jews wasn't it? Plus Sunday isn't really the Sabbath, it's Saturday.

Two things:

The sabbath is good for physical rest

The sabbath is good for mental rest and meditative reflection.

I think both of these were God's intent in a day of rest. Which day it occurs on is not important. That is legalism. Jesus performed miracles on the sabbath; his disciples picked grain on the sabbath.

I work Saturday overnights and Sunday overnights. I work for a company that cares for men and women with mental and physical disabilities. I have to be here. I still find time to worship with my church brothers and sisters, I go to church after work. And I still find time to rest, my days off. I also find time for devotion to God outside of church. So, I don't think I'm doing wrong. I think if I was the Lord would make it clear to me.

Hi admtaylor. Like you I also have the type of Job that requires someone being there 24-7.
I also believe in keeping all 10 of Gods commandents. So I sought God thru prayer for additional light as to what was lawful and what was unlawful for man to do on the Sabbath. (Listening to others just seemed to lead to confusion) God provided the answer thru His word.
In searching the scriptures I found that Jesus himself was accused of being a "sabbathbreaker" on more than one occasion. And we both know that Jesus was without sin.
So why listen to what others say regarding the Sabbath when we can recieve an answer directly thru God Himself. Listen to God (as you have )and follow the dictates that he puts on your heart.

Before I join a thread I try and read all the prior post to get a ‘feel’ of what others believe. If the thread is too long to do that I at least go through and read the post of the person whom I wish to debate. To me this is common courtesy to do so.

I unfortunately crossed paths with him on another thread. He ignored me there as well. There are many like him here.

A fair question, and you are free to answer my question as well. You can tell the Holy Spirit because what He tells you lines up with what is in the word of God. I also test the sprits regularly as instructed in scripture. After 30+ years, it gets easier to detect the true Spirit of God from the one who appears as an angel of light.

So how 'bout you?

If you're part of a religion that teaches Sabbath observance as a ritual, then it would be illegal for them not to hire you because you can't work on Sundays. The law says that they have to make every reasonable accomodation for you.

No.

But what you have to remember is that Jesus is our Sabbath now. We're not bound to a strict observance of the Sabbath. This is precisely why the Bible tells us "not to esteem one day over another".

sure, I have no problem with answering this. I belong to the visible Church established in the bible. The Church I belong to gave us the bible, and told us it was inspired by God. I cannot put my trust in the bible without first putting my trust in the Catholic Church - otherwise its just a book with no authoritative source for interpretation or even to declare it to be the word of God.
I trust the Church with my faith, because the Church has shown for 2,000 years she can safeguard the faith against all odds, and her teachings line up perfectly with scripture. I trust that the Catholic Church is lead by the Holy Spirit because I believe to be Christian and think anything else is inconsistant with scripture.
The Church is the pillar and foundation of Truth.

Okay. If it is the inspired word of God, then the authority comes from God, not the church. What if the church told you it wasn't? Then would it cease to be the word of God, even though scripture tells us it is?

But it is God's word. Just like any letter or document that is dictated, it does not reflect the writer himself, but the Holy Spirit who inspired it.

Well, we're back to square one. Is the Bible God's word? Since you've already says it is, then whose word is more important? That of the Creator, or that of the created?
