Mr Welch didn't invent grape juice, he only found a way to preserve it. People have been enjoying raw juice from freshly squeezed grapes (albeit for only a short time) long before Welch or Pastuer came into the world.

No.

Grapes only existed for a brief period of time. Grapes would have only been eaten by the rich, such as emperors and kings. They did not have anyone make them grape juice.

No one would take the time and trouble to import grapes just so they could squeeze it and make a juice.

It would be partially alcoholic, even immediately after squeezing.

You mean a fruit - to them, the fruit of the vine was wine and vinegar.

Grapes have been grown there since biblical times..no need to import them, which would mean that the cost for them would not be high.

By import I mean into the cities. Grain is easy to get in- it does not spoil.

And yes, it would be 'too high'. In the ancient world, people mostly ate bread. Vegetables and fruits were a rarity. Only two people ate vegetables and fruits, those who could afford to use land to grow them, and those that had no money and looked for food in the wilderness.

Wine was common as a necessity for sanitation and nutrients. Grapes would be uncommon and they would spoil and would have taken up more space in transportation that wine.

Grapes were pressed at the vineyard. They were then, as a preserved product, transported to various locations.

Preserved how?

The natural way; by fermentation and then by putting the fermented product into amphoras for transport. Literally thousands of amphoras are in museums and collections around the world and quite likely thousands more lie at the bottom of the sea ...

Aint archaeology grand!

Normally, import means to bring a commodity into the country from another country.
After pressing, the yeast is very much active..how was it preserved as a juice instead of a wine?

It's simply delusional to think that people regularly drunk grape juice in the 1st century.
People didn't start drinking grape juice regularly until the world industrialized enough to do so.
I find the game of denial, coming up with all sorts of circumstantial things to posit otherwise disturbing.

It's very weird. What's the point of it?

I think in this case it has everything to do with one not wanting to think Jesus drunk wine.
It goes hand in hand with people thinking alcohol in itself is sinful to consume, and since Jesus never sinned, couldn't have drunk wine.

But, nowhere in the Bible is it considered sinful to drink. Scripture is chock full of warnings about alcohol, how it leads to drunkenness and mockery, but nonetheless, alcohol itself is never condemned anymore then food is even though the Bible talks about gluttony.

So very true. For God incarnate (Jesus Christ) not to be unable to consume wine without sinning is absurd; it also brings into question the very omnipotence of God. Everything that God has done, is and will be doing is perfect and sinless.

Thank God for Mr Welch who made it possible for unfermented grape juice to be preserved for long periods of time, allowing millions of Christians all over the globe to enjoy the "fruit of the vine" at the LORD's table all year round.:prayer:
People have been enjoying the fruit of the vine, at the Lord's table and elsewhere, all year 'round, for thousands of years.

I should read stuff before I post it. Now it says what I wanted it to say; without that little green word, the meaning was the opposite of what I intended.:doh::doh:
