There are a few Christian people who trust God in what He does. And are aware God created all the laws of 'science' - a great and sprawling mass of facts and rules, both known and unknown - and uses those laws in the function of His Universe.

There are a few more Christian people who trust God to be God. They're not sure about much of anything past that. I have a suspicion they might be the smartest of us all.

But the technique of setting 'science' apart and claiming it doesn't have all the answers is misleading. Intentionally on the part of the speaker or not, I cannot always answer. (Sometimes it is blindingly obvious!)

I agree with what you said above.

Coming from the perspective of a retired science teacher, who was at one time also the teacher-advisor for our school's student led Christian club, it saddened me to see Science pitted against the Bible. I think if more Christians really understood concepts such as Special Relativity, some of this division would evaporate.

As for my understanding of Special Relativity, at one time some of my advanced math students were asked to calculate the time dilation, and change in length and mass at a given velocity, after I gave them the mathematical formula. It is basic algebra. I understand what was presented in the video I shared above, "Mystery of Time".

Watch out now, you are painting with a very broad brush.

I promise to love you, even when you are wrong.

I have been called "liar", "baby", "helper of Satan", "anti-Semitic", "Jew-hater", "hard-headed", "Billy-goat", etc. on this forum. Guess which side those comments usually came from?

There are some who almost always resort to name-calling, when they cannot get others to accept their doctrine.

.

You are of course correct. All I can say for sure is what I have personally seen and I guess it all depends on what side of the fence you are standing.

There is plenty of guilt to paint the brush on both sides, however it is clear to me that when someone can not discuss theological issues intelligently, and in fact you can throw in political as well, that is when the conversation turns to personal name calling and innuendoes.

Thanks for the gentle rebuke.

This debate actually belongs in a different thread, and even a different sub-forum. But your answer betrays your almost total ignorance of science, above an elementary level. My University education included advanced embryology courses. And I can assure you that, although the "proof" from embryology has been completely discredited, and this is clearly taught in advanced embryology courses, it continues to be taught in beginning biology classes. And in some cases at the university in which I received my training, the full professors who taught advanced sutdents that it was not actually true were the very same individuals who had taught it to these very same students at the elementary level. So your knowledge of what is taught at the elementary level, combined with your ignorance of what is taught at advanced levels, demonstrates that your training in the subject took place only at the elementary level.

I'm sorry, your assertion that "proof" from embryology has been completely discredited sounds bogus to me. Instead, what has happened is that the idea that "Ontology recapitulates philology" has been downgraded from a iron clad law to merely a fruitful suggestion for analysis. In other words, there are gaps that keep it from being a law. But it still has many, many fruitful examples that illustrate our biological heritage. So to cite those remaining fruitful examples is not a disservice to students, and for you to deny they exist is a disservice to the truth. Do you deny that whale embryos form little buds in the places where terrestrial animals form buds that become feet?

Of course, I should yield to your superior knowledge of the subject, for I have only the vantage point of an advanced education in embryology. I do not have the extensive experience of evolutionary arguments in elementary biology.

Well cite some evidence on your own side. You will note that I did that. Where is your evidence?

The problem is that your alleged "evidence" is nothing more that the ilogic of "proof by analogy," which is not evidence at all, but merely unfounded interpretation of observed analogies.

I cited actual experience from my own personal education. it was one of my own professors that taught beginning biology students that "Ontology recapitulates philology," and then taught advanced embryology students that "actually, this is outside of the facts."

Another of my professors openly mocked students who did not believe in evolution, and then, in private, confided to his lab assistant that, "actually, evolution is not a very good explanation of the facts."

There are seven major "proofs" of evolution, generally offered in beginning Biology classes. In the course of my studies, I researched published materials in some depth, and found statements by widely recognized specialists in the fields applicable to EVERY ONE of these "proofs," who flatly stated that the widely cited "proof" applicable to his particular specialty was not actually correct.

Along the way, I found, among other things, articles like one in the "Journal of Geology," about humanoid footprints it said were found in Cretaceous strata, widely scattered all over the eastern pert of the United States. It dismissed all of these with the statement that "if man, or man's early ape ancestor, or that early ape ancestor's early mammalian ancestor, lived as far back as in the Cretaceous period, then the whole science of geology is so completely wrong that all the geologists will resign their jobs and take up truck driving. Hence, science rejects the attractive conclusion that man made these prints in the mud of the Cretaceous period with his feet." But you can see many photographs of such footprints for yourself, by simply googling "giant human footprints in cretaceous strata".

And I also found articles in other mainstream scientific journals, calling for boycotts against certain publishers, because they dared to publish a book that suggested that the Biblical account might be correct.

These are all things that I can clearly and personally remember, from my University years.

I think you didn't understand that he was trying to share exceptions to a general principle.

I think you didn't understand he was saying the broad theory doesn't explain all the details, in the same way that erosion theory doesn't explain why a canyon is here instead of there.

I think its possible for another species than man to have that kind of footprint.

I think it was more that they were denying scientific truth instead of merely suggesting the biblical account might be correct.

To you, of course, the two things are one and the same. That ultimately means you insist the bible is in error.

This discussion on Creation vs Evolution, is good. It does fit with the OP of this thread, as it shows how people are willfully ignorant of the truth in other areas, as it suits them to be.
But it is the truth of the Prophetic Word, that I am particularly concerned with.
The really incredible thing about the end times is that it seems every Christian, who considers this issue, has a different take on what will happen. Confusion and argumentation reigns! A lot have settled on the 'we're outta here', rapture theory. A simple solution, but one that fails to be supported by scripture.
We should know what God has planned for us, Paul said: we [Christians] are not in the dark....1 Thessalonians 5:4
The biggest problem in this is people not realizing that Christians are the Israelites of God; His Overcomers in the faith. This is plain New Testament teaching.
Therefore the unfulfilled promises of God to Israel in the OT, now apply to Christians.

I not so assured that God has, actually, allowed His plans to be understood as to the future in very great detail. After all . . .

Rev 10:4 When the seven peals of thunder had spoken, I was about to write; and I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Seal up the things which the seven peals of thunder have spoken and do not write them."

Remember how all the establishment religious folks had the idea of a coming messiah all worked out and failed to even recognize Him when He actually came.

I expect the events of the second coming will, like the first, only be seen to fulfill scripture after they have happened.

When every prophecy has been studied and carefully placed in it's order, as I have done, then an amazing picture emerges. A coherent and logical sequence of events between now and the glorious Return of Jesus. Then His Millennial reign and after that; eternity with God Himself dwelling with us on earth.
All the required information is there, the ancient prophets said everything for us to know God's Plans. The prophet Daniel 12:10b said: ...a few of the wise will understand.
Otherwise; a third of what God has caused to be in our Bibles, are wasted Words. Is that right?

It is indeed a matter of awe to meet someone so dedicated to his own opinion that he is willing to ascribe motives to writers whose works he has never read.

This is the common answer of those that have very little knowledge of what God actually said. The ancient scribes and Pharisees failed to recognize Jesus, not because He had not been plainly revealed, but because they concentrated on just a part of what God had said about the coming Messiah. They loved the parts about the great warrior, so then concentrated on just these parts, while ignoring the parts about the suffering servant.

Just as in the case of evolution, you are relying upon your own personal ignorance. It is true that God has clearly revealed that there are coming events that He has not revealed. But Jesus clearly said that He spoke in the way He did to purposely hide his plans from those that did not believe. You have demonstrated that you have no interest in actually knowing what God said. So I am not going to bother you any more.

Extracts from 'The Prophetic Call' by Art Katz.

In Jeremiah chapter 23:1-32, God gives us a powerful statement about true and false prophets. Talk about an indictment! It is one thing to have Judgment against nations, but when you begin to indict the prophets of God, when the loftiest and the noblest thing has become the most profane, then that is a profound statement of the low condition of a nation prior to its judgment.

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule on their own authority; and My people love it that way! Jeremiah 5:31a
It is remarkable how self-serving this reciprocal thing is between heads of movements or fellowships and the false teachers, and how comfortable they are with one another and how they affirm one another. The people are in an unspoken agreement with their ministers: "You present a biblical message. We will pay the bill and have a Sunday service that will leave our lives free from any kind of demand that would really affect our true vested interest and lifestyles. We don't want a message that is going to challenge where our heart really is. We want to be able to say, 'Amen' and 'We've been to church'"-and that kind of thing. As the priest, so also the people. As the pastor/preacher, so also the congregation. It is into that situation we have now come to: 2 Peter 2:1-3 In the past there were false prophets, now there are false teachers among you. They will gain many adherents to their destructive theories, bringing the Way of truth into disrepute. In their greed for money and adulation, they will trade on peoples credulity with complete fabrications.

Therefore their way will be like slippery paths to them, they will
be driven away into the gloom and fall in it; for I shall bring calamity upon them, the year of their punishment, declares the LORD
. Jeremiah 23:12
This confirms that there is not an immediate judgment, but that there is an appointed time in which God judges those that profane His house; those who may have originally had authentic and holy callings. That may well be why the Lord is allowing to continue that which is now being called prophetic and is so popular, but for them, as with the priests and prophets of old, there will be a year of visitation or a time when God will bring them all to judgement.
There is a consequence for false prophecy. For the preacher of it; James 3:1, and for the believer of it, for being taken in by the ‘nice’ outcomes, that are taught, when what the Bible prophets actually wrote, is quite different.
Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you...' Jeremiah 23:15-16a Jesus said: Do not be deceived…Matthew 24:4
Notice that God still calls them prophets. It may be because the gifts and callings of God are irrevocable. They still retain their official title, but what they are performing under that title is in God's sight an abomination. There is nothing more profane than when the sacred is no longer authentically sacred. When we take the sacred phrase, 'Thus says the Lord' and merely employ it as a device to win the attention of our hearers, then we are desecrating the sacred. We are making the sacred profane and if we are not as a godly people setting forth the distinction between the profane and the sacred, how different are we to the rest of the world? The ramifications of what we are talking about are beyond any full understanding at present.
Jeremiah 23:16b-17They keep saying to those who don’t bother to read the Word for themselves: 'The Lord has said: You will have peace' and as for everyone who follow their stubborn hearts, they say: 'Calamity will not come upon you.'
This must be the very quintessence of what a false prophet is, namely, the giving of a false comfort and a false assurance of peace that does not regard the truth of the difficulties that need to be faced. It is an unwillingness to bring a hard word. The things that are preached are normally flattering and encouraging to the flesh, rather than challenging or threatening. False prophets prophesy peace when the world is in turmoil! 'Calamity will not come upon you' and ‘God will take you to heaven’, is sadly the kind of statement that is coming from today’s pulpits, especially among Christians of the Western world. They are giving false security to their flock.

But who has stood in the council of the LORD...? Jeremiah 23:18
God requires still that His prophetic people be in His presence. I do not see many in the earth today who are in this place. What then shall we say for all the so called; prophets that have arisen in recent years for there are many who profess to be prophets, but are they really hearing the council of God? Not likely, as evidenced by how they all have a different interpretation of the Prophetic Word. God's judgment is severe on those who say: this is God’s word, but it is of their own volition.
We can know when the Word is from the council of God because it has a beneficial effect. It will affect the nation or fellowship in turning it toward God, rather than away from Him and from their wrongful ways and practices.
Watchmen; Jeremiah 31:6, are called to come into that whole scenario and bring the Sword of the Lord, and the fear of the Lord, and the truth of Scripture to people who have been long spoiled by pastors and writers of things like Prosperity theology and the rapture to heaven doctrine, that every one of us has been exposed to by preaching, books and the media, often ignoring scriptural truths. This is why we have so much controversy over what God actually does intend for His people and why God will soon take action to change everything. THEN My people will see and hear clearly….they will finally understand and know the truth. Isaiah 32:3-4, Jeremiah 23:

There are false teachers. We are told there would be: 2 Timothy 4:3-4
The false teacher speaks words of comfort when God would not have His people to be comforted, but to be stirred up. True prophets and watchmen who promote the Prophetic Word have to bear the reprisal, the rejection and the mortification of that word coming back into their own teeth. Prophetic anguish is to present the word of God and then to have it refused, but other doctrines believed. It is mortifying and the opposite of the joy and the gratification that comes when the word of God flows out of you and into the people who are receiving it. That is like tonic for your soul. We have to be as willing for the one as the other, or we will not speak the Words of truth, but we must warn people, whether they accept it or not. Ezekiel 3:1-6

One of my (dis)favorite irritations is I often watch You Tube videos on different bible subjects, that early on in the video the person doing the video says something like - "Is is not what's I say or you say that counts, but what the bible says". Then for the remainder of the video the person goes on to say and present their interpretation or opinion, under the guise of their introductory remark that is what the bible says...:doh::doh:^_^^_^^_^:doh::doh::doh:

It is a very sad fact that some people in the church, including the leadership, no longer accept the authority of the Bible. When we pick and choose the Scriptures, it means we miss out on the whole plan of God for this world. In our blindness, we no longer see the deceptions that surround us on every side. We do not see the ultimate aim of Islam, nor do we realize that the world is headed for a battle between God and the forces of evil.

Many people remain ignorant of the Word of God because they have turned instead to human wisdom and the traditions of mankind. Mark 7:13 Among many Christians, the prophetic Scriptures have been labelled “best left alone”, consequently the Church generally has a very incomplete and often incorrect picture of things to come.

Unfortunately, many Christians live almost exclusively by the New Testament and they spiritualize nearly everything in the Old. The whole world of the Middle East with its Jews and Muslims, has become shrouded in mystery – remote and out of mind. The idea that God has a plan, still uncompleted for His people and the Land, is incomprehensible. Based on the teachings of many of the early church leaders, there is a widespread belief within Christendom that God is finished with Israel and the Israelites. Faulty exegesis of the Biblical promises concerning the ethnic and spiritual descendants of Abraham, has led many Christians astray. Having had little teaching on the prophetic Scriptures, they are extremely confused about God’s dealings with the Jews, [the House of Judah] the House of Israel, [the 10 tribes, taken into captivity by the Assyrians and lost to world knowledge] and the descendants of Ishmael.

God promised to Abraham that Ishmael would become a great people and receive blessings and He kept that promise. Genesis 17:20 [The Arab nations and their oil wealth]
Sadly, Ishmael’s descendants did not remain faithful to Abraham’s God, instead they went their own way and by the time of Mohammad, they had 365 “gods”. Mohammad chose one of these, Allah, to be the ‘one true god’, whom he considered to be the giver of the promises to Ishmael.

Church preaching and teaching that does not see the settling of God’s people, now from every race, nation and language, 1 Peter 2:9-10, Revelation 5:9-10, into all of the Promised Land, causes uncertainty and confusion about the future. Just as traditional theology prevented the Jews in 30AD from recognizing their Messiah, so much doctrine today obscures the signs of our times. God clearly says that He has not forgotten His people, Righteous Christian Israel and over forty prophecies detail their gathering into all that area that He gave to Abraham, so long ago. That this great gathering happens years before the Return of Jesus, to commence His Millennium reign, is clear by the tasks that they are given in order to prepare themselves and the world for that event. The prophet Daniel, tells us that God’s Holy people are present in the Land at the time the Anti Christ comes to Israel and places his image in the Third Temple. Daniel 11:30-35 Before that, Ezekiel 20:34-36 says how God will take His people out of the nations and judge them in the same way as He did their spiritual forefathers. Isaiah 51:1-2

Just because God has promised there will always be His covenant with His special people does not mean we have to support Israel in everything Israel, the country, does. After all, the Bible supports the notion that the physical nation can sin and deserve judgment. Why can't we also support that notion today?

I don't think you see that I am referring to the Israel of God, all the Christian people, from every nation and language.
The Jewish State of Israel, is now; simply just another secular nation, to be judged like all the rest on the Day the Lord takes action.

Oh, well sure. Thanks for making that clear.

Now . . . how can we figure out the wheat from the tares?

1Jn 2:22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.
1Jn 2:23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

The Parable of the Weeds Explained

Mat 13:36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field."
Mat 13:37 He answered and said to them: "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.

Mat 13:38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one.

Mat 13:39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.

Mat 13:40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.

Mat 13:41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness,

Mat 13:42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Mat 13:43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

..............................................

Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "AND TO YOUR SEED," who is Christ.
(The promise made to Abraham was made only to Christ, according to the Apostle Paul.)

Gal 3:29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Heb 8:6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.
Heb 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.
Heb 8:8 Because finding fault with them, He says: "BEHOLD, THE DAYS ARE COMING, SAYS THE LORD, WHEN I WILL MAKE A NEW COVENANT WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND WITH THE HOUSE OF JUDAH—
Heb 8:9 NOT ACCORDING TO THE COVENANT THAT I MADE WITH THEIR FATHERS IN THE DAY WHEN I TOOK THEM BY THE HAND TO LEAD THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT; BECAUSE THEY DID NOT CONTINUE IN MY COVENANT, AND I DISREGARDED THEM, SAYS THE LORD.
Heb 8:10 FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS IN THEIR MIND AND WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
Heb 8:11 NONE OF THEM SHALL TEACH HIS NEIGHBOR, AND NONE HIS BROTHER, SAYING, 'KNOW THE LORD,' FOR ALL SHALL KNOW ME, FROM THE LEAST OF THEM TO THE GREATEST OF THEM.
Heb 8:12 FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE."
Heb 8:13 In that He says, "A NEW COVENANT," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Heb 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,
Heb 12:23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,
Heb 12:24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

The New Covenant is the fulfillment of the promise made to Abraham that through his seed(Christ) all the nations of the earth would be blessed.
