• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Don't raise your voice to me please.
Ok.
I'm Just sayin... one does not have to come out and admit it. Read between the lines.
I don't like to get too involved (or involved at all) in political threads. So naturally I am not coming across statements that insinuate support for or complacency with abortion.

Well, maybe the doctors do think they're caring for women by performing abortions. That doesn't mean that it's actually true. I mean, one of the most high-profile abortionists in Canada, Dr. Henry Mogrentaler, genuinely thinks that he is doing women good and promoting the freedom of the female sex by performing abortions. I doubt there are a lot of doctors who perform abortions who think, "I'm screwing these women over! Suckers, they don't know that I'm ruining their lives." Most of them probably do look at an unwanted child as an incredible burden upon a woman, and therefore they think they are doing good by relieving that woman of her "burden".

Just because they think so doesn't mean they're right though. But I hardly doubt that saying that people with these motivations exist equates to being somehow pro-choice or something.

well you need to go back and read it again, more like read closely between the lines again.

I'm not sure about the reading between the lines thing.. because.. how do I know I'm reading what the person intended, or according to my own biases? I'm quite bad at reading between the lines.. usually get it wrong.. lol.. I just try to assume that the person meant literally whatever they said.

There are no lines to read between here. Folks say that they are pro-life, you either believe them or you don't. And if you don't, and basically keep saying you don't and spreading that around, and you're wrong, you're slandering people.

*sigh* Monica, Monica, Monica.... I hope to God I am wrong, but my 6th sense about these things tells me I'm not.

Your "sixth sense" is calling an awful lot of people liars, and your "sixth sense" is going to have to answer for that one day if it's wrong.

I don't know.. well if a person says they're pro life, then what is wrong with assuming they are?

Nothing unless they post things that are contrary to that statement.

But for clearification-- I'm not saying that certain posters are not pro life, but they defend and have this insane false misguided compassion for RvW, abortionist and the whole culture and that is the underlying thing we have to be on watch for.

well if someone has any wrong ideas about abortion, hopefully God will help them see that.

I don't know though. I haven't been keeping up with the debates. I dont know if it's possible..to know..

let's just pray for abortion to end :)
and raise awareness about it. etc.

Benedicta, if someone is pro-life and insists that they are, what other criteria do you have for labeling a person as pro-life or not? Do they have to have the elephant icon (or no icon), or otherwise no one else is holy?

Please don't edit this out like you usually do when you say something good. :) This is too good a comment to edit out. :)

I'm sure this will be called that ever vague "debating" but....

That place gets like... 10 posts a day now. 7 of them are Fish's.

The only people who were over there "promoting" things like that were the non-Catholics who were welcome to join and actually express their point of view. Half the threads that were on the gay lifestyle or abortion had me taking one side, and then 7-10 people taking the other. I think you're misleading people here, just a bit.

As to why I read this forum, I have a strong intellectually curiosity for almost any subject matter and I try my best to keep my mind open to new ideas. Who knows, reading here may actually have an effect.

I now officially declare Faithforums dead.

I was going to edit it out before you beat me to it. I felt a little harsh.

I think if I were to be more assertive, I'd be bolder than BA and Bene combined. (ducking for cover on that one)

No, I just read what they write and if it's a contradiction of the claim of being pro life, I find that suspect.

Example, I am pro life but I think abortion doctors do abortions becuase they care for women. I will not call them sinful or murderers but I think abortion is murder and sinful.

You really can't see the hidden connotation of that statement whether it be intentional or not?

I am a Democrat and Bene does not even have a political icon on her profile.

Please stop accusing me of being a Republican.

I think it's about semantics (maybe it's me).

If I say: "I think abortion doctors do abortions because they care for women," it CAN look like I care about the women enough to condone the doctors performing an abortion.

If I say: "I think abortion doctors do abortion because they believe that they are caring for the women," that doesn't necessarily mean I condone the doctors performing an abortion.

As I said though - it can all be boiled down to semantics - not that I can't see what you are saying though.

When was the last time I accused you? Anyway BA I think you're one of the only Democrats here who can get away with saying they're a Democrat:)You've got immunity^_^

can anyone try to loosen up and flex a tad? just...smile a little bit? come on guys...

What you call just semantics, in reality just may be an attempt to change the language in order to get us to accept what we should not be accepting.

It's age old tactic.

One just has to be on their toes and know how to spot it.
