You failed to answer my question. How do you feel about Odin? Do you consider your views to be religious or philosophical?

The Norse God Odin and Thor too, definently are religious in nature. An old religion to be sure but none the less a religion.

So is your (presumed) disbelief in Odin a "religious" stance or a "philosophical" stance?
Obedient.

I never do, and I'm not about to start now.
*sigh*

You do realize that the commandment you quoted was about worshiping other gods, right? That people who follow the Yahweh are not supposed to worship anybody else? It says nothing about "believing in the existence of".

So, do you believe Odin exists at all? And do you consider your stance on that question to be philosophical or religious?

I think that all the myths support an argyment that they were written because the writers saw that people behave in certain ways.
These "ways" can be classified into a dozen or so groups.
There is a mentality, personalities, perspectives, etc that are of a fixed nature for our species.
So we see people behaving with certain group mentalities.

The ancient astrologers basically claimed this was the case, and the thought it was genetically based and tied into the seasonal conditions of the birth month.
They believed, for instance, that december babies would be conditioned, nurtured, and probably, by Nature, genetically given traits to handle tough times of winter, for instance.

So these "religions" were really practices they saw in whole types of peoples which were designated as their "religion," and the people were seen as followers of some "god" that stayed here long after the people died.
New babies filled the old shoes.

This was the idae of Immortality for the god.

I'm not sure if global warming exists or not, but Al Gore seems to think it does. He's probably right though, cause it would fit in with the bible. The rapture is coming. We shouldn't worry tho because Jesus is going to take all the believers to heaven. Why can't science understand this? It don't matter if the planet dies because there will be noone left on it!

It only means climate change, not the end of the world; although it will mean significant lifestyle changes in the coming decades. Also, Al Gore is correct in stating that global warming is real and due to the result of burning fossil fuels, but neither politicians nor the media is the place from which to seek scientific reliable information about climate change. Rather seek the over whelming evidence published in the scientific literature by actual climate scientists. :)

I never do, and I'm not about to start now.

Which is good because:

1. The question wasn't really aimed at you.
2. Answering questions directly would probably make you a bad theologian
3. I wouldn't expect a direct answer to a religious question from a person of faith. I expect them to dance around every term like a lawyer parsing terms in a legal battle.

That's kind of one of the reason I like certain people of faith. It's so much "law" and "word games". Faith is one big "game" for some people and the more they espouse the superiority of their faith the more like a lawyer they become.

It would be fun to debate these people but they often lack anything like "logic skills" and cannot see when they are fiercely playing "word games".

At least debating stuff with a lawyer you realize they understand that it's a game with rules.

And what kinds of questions would you ask?

How many days & nights Jesus was in the grave, or where the [Noah's] flood waters went?

Global warming is real; The question is how much is due to human activities!
Answer: the vast majority.

Denying Climate change is tantamount to believing the Earth to be flat!
These days, so is claiming that the vast majority of the current warming is not due to human activity.

The point of the cartoon is that whether one accepts anthropogenic climate change as scientific fact or not, there are plenty of good reasons to act as though it were anyway.
There are plenty of people, like the original poster, who think that it's all a waste of effort because Jesus is going to swoop down in the near future and take them away to a better place.

And to such people I would remind them that no matter how sure they are that the Endtimes will occur in their lifetime, people have been similarly convinced for, well, the bulk of recorded history. As such, even if it is just the merest possibility that they are mistaken, perhaps they owe it to their children and generations born in the interim, between now and Christ's return, to leave the planet in a habitable condition?

I'd also remind them that God appointed humans as stewards of the Earth, and the role of a steward is one of sustainable development, not unrestricted unsustainable plunder.
