Many of the recent discussions raise an important question. What is the purpose of the church? Why was it called out? Why does one choose a leader? Do you choose a leader to so you can identify who must be destroyed, or do you choose a leader so the chosen leader can lead the entire group to a desired place?

I think some people have the first view of the church rather than the second. Which view do you hold? For me, I hold to the second view.

"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9

That passage argues that the chosen are called as testimony for God. All creation testifies, though (Psalm 19). Seems that we may do it in a distinct way, just as the stars do it in their distinct way.

I find it noteworthy that a "Christian" is not of a different race than a "non-Christian". We are all in the image of God.

Senti,

From what is the church "called out"? Geographic, demographic (religions), philosophic?

Abram--- Land of nativity?
12 tribes--- Egypt/house of bondage?
Judah----Babylon?
Elect---4 winds?

I suppose I'm still struggling with the idea of choosing a leader. I've been told what to think before and I'm not eager to return to that approach. However, if I had to choose a leader, I would agree with you that the second view more closely aligns with my perspective.

Nothing prevents you from choosing yourself as the leader.

Senti,

Heb 5:4-5
4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. KJV

I think the purpose of the church was to exhibit what God is like and to be a blessing to humanity...

I think a leader does not have to be selected if people who say they are followers make an effort to be a blessing to all.... I think the destruction motif needs to be eliminated....
