I think calling things phobic goes back to gay rights in the eighties, when Clinton enacted don't ask don't tell homosexuality was illegal in 19 states. The AIDS epidemic was spreading like wildfire and the debate was highly emotional. This isn't like that.

I remember back in 2010 the President of Mexico said wherever the is a Mexican, that's Mexico. It wasnt very long before Arizona had the strictest illegal immigration laws in the country.

We talk about why Clinton lost and this was the core issue. She was going to abandon enforcement of immigration laws and stop deporting illegals. The watershed was when she called Trump supporters deplorable. If you pro-life, opossed to open borders or refuse to sell wedding cakes to gay people your phobic and deplorable. Would someone kindly inform them it's not working

True. There was a lot of "war against laws in America" in the rhetoric Clinton used in her campaign.

Got a chance today to use the slam "xenophobe" on my wife today -she had just finished cleaning the kitchen table and I then put some snacks on the table and started a little munching. She was giving me a little grief about that so I called her a "xenophobe" since I am the only non-hispanic in my house. It was good for a laugh.

Undocumented immigration was going down under Pres. Obama and he deported more criminal undocumented immigrants than even Pres. Bush did. Und. immigration is still going down under Pres Trump. So, there's no reason for his wall.

Illegal boarder crossing is wayyyy down under Trump as compared to the "spike" under Obama.

Considering that one of the most common arguments for illegal immigration is the price of produce, why do far-left want a caste of serfs?

That's a strawman, considering the left traditionally supports the rights of organized labor.

Just be glad you didn't call her deplorable, you'd be making a comfortable bed on your couch. I remember my wife told my daughters teacher she was not to read Harry Potter because it was Satanic. When we got home I told her no, it's mythology, not unlike a lot of Disney films. I suggested she read the first book and decide for herself, she read all of them, never missed a movie and recently started reading them to the grand kids. I still tease her about being Satanic.

By the way, Raphael Jauregui, informs me that I mistakenly thought he called me a 'WASP'. Apparently I was mistaken and wanted to apologize openly, I like to clear these things up when I can. I'll be more careful in the future.

Sorry Raphael, hope we can put this behind us.

Grace and peace,
Mark

I have to say that I am disheartened and constantly disturbed by the negative rhetoric against immigrants, especially undocumented immigrants, that I am seeing in the US and other countries as well. As a Christian, I believe in loving your neighbour as yourself. That means we should love our immigrant neighbour too. How can so many people want to separate families, deport people who have committed no crime, and build walls that would divide cities and destroy the environment? Xenophobia is a sin and we need to call it out.

So, I'm going to have to agree with Pope Francis on this one. Building walls like this is not right.
Pope Francis to Trump: Building Mexico Wall 'Not Christian'

False charge. There is no animosity against immigrants on the right. This is just another attempt to conflate immigration with illegal entrance into the US.

I'm sure I'm not the first to point this out.

My question to you. Why can't you make a distinction between legal and illegal?

Because some people do not only not understand the law but they also do not abide by the law.

No matter how bright the light they still cannot see.

Indeed. Of course at is it - I think she might be in "Hillary's basket of deplorables" for failing to "vote Hillary"

That's a strawman, considering the left traditionally supports the rights of organized labor.

The left make no claim to being unified, consistent or rational. They only oppose the right - so they can support both low-wage illegal immigrant pricing as well as unions. They can applaud Obama Care for us - while exempting themselves from it. They can leave the Veterans to die in our single-payer VA system ... and then clamor for that same single-payer model at the state level -- as if they learned nothing from their VA system failures.

You must like that couch. Then again you could make the argument that she is the other half of Trump supporters. Or have I assumed to much, perhaps she just didn't vote for Clinton because it was a lost cause, neither did I and I'm a Democrat. I just thought in Indiana it was a waste of an hour of my life I wouldn't get back because there was no way she would win Indiana. Neither did Evan Bayh even though he was very qualified for the Senate. Deplorable? No, I think you could make the argument she was apathetic but who am I to talk.

Many in the U.S. have no problem with immigrants. it is the ones who go about it illegally that many have a problem with. Any country has every moral right to determine who is allowed in their country and who isn't. In ancient cultures, city walls were built to not only protect from attack, but to also keep out those elements that were detrimental to them.

Trespassing on others territory and taking advantage of their resources, like our income and medical safety nets, is theft pure and simple. And it is immoral for any business, large or small, to take advantage of low income workers and then pass the costs onto the surrounding communities in human services, education, and law enforcement. It is not compassion and "Christian" for so-called Christian groups to import people and have government take money from it's own citizens to cover the costs of so-called benevolent programs. Theft, either via a local robber or a government official, is still theft. Thou Shalt Not Steal applies in both cases. And is especially egregious when it reduces the available services to a country's own citizens.
