Then you are deceptive, since you responded to a post which you misrepresented what it was about and who it was connected to. I guess I don't have to take you seriously from now on.I don't acre who you were responding to. You posted it on a public thread--I am free to quote it.
I didn't misrepresent what you stated.. You said it, I did not. Further I am not aware of any CF requirement that I identify the person to whom your comment was directed. If you want to show me that rule I will be happy to edit my post. Then you are deceptive, since you responded to a post which you misrepresented what it was about and who it was connected to. Men and women are inherently different. Neither is superior or inferior. But they are different.I didn't misrepresent what you stated.. You said it, I did not. Still waiting for you to come up with any valid reason as to why women should not be able to go topless anyplace that men can go topless.
Men and women are inherently different. Neither is superior or inferior. But they are different.
So they have different parts and society has decided female toplessness is unacceptable in most public situations.
Dude people can follow the arrows back to where you quoted me from and see who I was responding to. You made it sound as if I was responding to you. and that was not the case.
As for a requirement to be honest and upright in your communications, that is my requirement and a standard I live by. That standard I require of those I deal with and with that in mind I respectfully remove myself from any further debates with you.

Male toplessness is less likely to be considered lewd, but is grounds for denial of service in many businesses.
Exposed breasts will provoke uninvited and unwanted attention such as staring and even unwanted advances.
Are women willing to put up with that? Or are their husbands, fathers and brothers expected to intervene or put up with the lascivious looks and comments? It opens up a whole can of worms.
Why isn't that properly her choice? Maybe she will put up with that. Why can't her husband, father, or brothers also determine their reactions? Why the paternalism?
If women leave the house clothed, they could still receive uninvited and unwanted attention such as staring and even unwanted advances. Should they be kept locked up in the home?
We shouldn't celebrate or emulate countries that have lowered their standards of public decency.Well said.
In addition, over time topless would become the norm for both men and women. A topless woman would attract no more attention than a topless man does now. I've been on topless beaches and you can always pick out the American men--they are the ones staring and drooling. Not that the European men don't look at a particularly well-endowed young woman--they do just as American women check out a good-looking guy with six-pack abs--but for the most part seeing topless women isn't a big deal for them. That would become the norm here.
We shouldn't celebrate or emulate countries that have lowered their standards of public decency.
In those 47 states where it is legal, women aren't taking advantage of the ability to go top less. It's mostly just the activists that do it for shock value.

Even if the law says you can, cultural norms say not to. Women seem to be self regulating in not going topless. Are you saying that the reason we shouldn't emulate other countries is that we aren't emulating other countries?
eudaimonia,
Mark
You mean like the US did when we allowed men to go topless after WWI? Or was that acceptable? Is it only unacceptable when statndards are "lowered" for women?
I don't know any woman that wants to go topless in public. Since they already have the legal right, they are choosing not to exercise that right. I don't blame them. I wouldn't either (and don't).Perhaps because, as was already stated in this thread, in the vast majority of those states women who go topless will face arrest for violating local ordinances or for disturbing the peace. New York states is one of the few places where women don't have to face such things becasue there the state law was overruled by the courts; cities and towns cannot adopt local ordinances that conflict with the court's decision.
Being topless =/= sexual. That's a major part of the point.People walk around near naked on TV and billboards nowadays. Men and women.
It's sexual objectification through and through. And yet that a good thing?
Even if the law says you can, cultural norms say not to. Women seem to be self regulating in not going topless.
And that's fine. No one is saying they SHOULD go topless, merely that they should be freely able to choose to do so.Even if the law says you can, cultural norms say not to. Women seem to be self regulating in not going topless.
