Why Should Women not be Permitted to go Topless in Public?

Sexuality is a thing that has existed since the times of Adam and Eve. It is a human thing and an inherent trait that God, himself placed in us. Why would Adam and Eve have hidden themselves from God, if this was not so? This has been the case from then and is the same today. The fashion and cosmetic industries thrive on this very fact.

And exactly where in Scripture does it say that Eve covered her breasts?

Exposed breasts will provoke uninvited and unwanted attention such as staring and even unwanted advances.

And male chests were once required to be covered in public. Change can happen. I've been on topless beaches in parts of the world were that would have been unthinkable 50 years ago.

As have many things. Some things matter and other things don't. I for one would rather ask those whose bodies would be uncovered to weight in on this as it is a mote point to discus such things without them. As for topless beaches, there are just that and those who go there agree to what is seen there. The issue is, would the same amount of dress be appropriate outside these areas, even according to those who go there.

Adam and Eve hid themselves because of shame, and God criticized them for doing so. However, late's look at other countries where toplessness is commonplace and all the issues we have here with it aren't issues there.

I would read your Bible again before siting what God criticized them for. No, lets not look to other places to see what goes on there. They are as you say, other places and they are responsible for themselves. We are responcible for our own selves.

Belly buttons are a good example of a body part that was once considered taboo to expose in public. The first instance of a non-accidental bared female bellybutton on television did not occurr until the early 1970s, thanks to Cher on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Today seeing female belly buttons is relatively common.

You really need to read earlier posts in the thread. Yes, technically the green states allow women to go topfree. However, as Gotopless.org states: "Though green states indicate there is some degree of “topless freedom,” that does not mean it’s legal for women to go shirtless throughout the state. Local ordinances may ban or allow the practice in opposition to state law, and California is listed green despite the fight in Venice Beach. Even in areas with topless freedom, police officers may still arrest citizens for disorderly conduct."

Pennsylkvania, where I previously resided, is a green state so there is no state law prohibiting women from going topless. Yet women in Pittsburgh were denied the right to havea topless protest, and told by police that there "would be consequences" if they tried such a protest. Such a protest was organized, but only the men went topless.

So, your statement that this is a non-issue is incorrect. It is an issue.

Show me where it states that modest covering did not include the covering of a women's breasts. I'm not going to let you place me on the defensive by demanding me to support what you can't support yourself.
