No. There is no way to harmonize the creation account with science. Period. There is no firmament. The earth is not flat, etc. Certainly the writer had no concept of modern science.

I think the creation account is fiction, based on whatever genera of storytelling they used back then.

There are many ancient writings that are immensely more enjoyable and relevant to our human existence. I see no reason to elevate the bible over any other ancient text. It's just one of many available existing ancient writings.

It may seem special to you, but that would appear to be only your own bias. How can you support this claim of yours? And no one is "choosing death". The fact that others do not buy into your own beliefs does not mean that anyone is choosing death. By the way, for a person that thinks rationally belief is not a choice. By trying to state that others are "choosing death" you tacitly imply that you are not thinking rationally.

My dad was a committed Southern Baptist but converted to atheism and physics; and I was raised atheist. I had occasion to live with him again after I: (1) became a Christian, (2) was educated on creationism and strongly committed to it, and (3) became a Southern Baptist minister. We had lots of talks about creationism; he remained uninterested in Christianity. Then he died.

If I had my current view then, we would have talked like we did when I was growing up when he taught me calculus, electronics, and chemistry.

I dedicate my current ministry to my dad who I hope to see in the new heavens and new earth.
