  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is this wrong?

Romans 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
That says nothing about sex, your interpreting it to mean what you want.

what is point of vagina to another female if not for reproduction? what is point of vagina to another female if not for reproduction?
Love

I see nothing wrong with your friends being in love. I don't think there's anything wrong with them curling up together, holding hands, kissing, anything like that. I will say that I could not support the two of them having sex, anymore than I would support a straight couple of that age having sex. It is highly unlikely that they will be together for life, and I tend to subscribe to the idea that the level of sexual intimacy two people should be on should be proportional to the level of commitment in their relationship. Total sexual intimacy is best saved for a relationship of total, lifelong commitment. Of course, I wouldn't condemn them for it, either, and I would hope they are provided with any information necessary to make safe, responsible choices no matter what they choose, but if they asked my advice on it, that's what I'd say
Both of them are actively sexual.

What I fail to understand is this. Some people claim that its wrong because the bible says its wrong. Some people claim that its wrong because its not natural.

For the Bible reason- Why does everyboddy have to follow your example? In my faith, I believe that what my two friends have is beautiful and healthy and that theres nothing wrong with it, why does your religious opinion mean more than mine? If someone doesnt worship the way you do, why hold them to the same standards?

For the un-natural reason- There are tens of thousands of things that we do, eat, use, make, or see that are un-natural. Why is homosexuality especially wrong?

I'm still trying to come up with a good theory explaining the taboo that's been placed on homosexuality.

I can see why patriachal societies make such a big fuss about sexuality, and usually end up demonizing both sexuality AND women.
I can see how they'd end up with mono- or polygamous relationships in which the man assumes authority over the family.

But the condemnation of homosexuality? Beats me.

My best guess is that it originated in times when the refusal to father offspring would possibly endanger the survival of a whole tribe. That would also explain why female homosexuality was such a late addition to the list of no-no's: Who cares if the wife complains about her (arranged) husband's advances? She has no say in the matter anyway, being part of her hubby's cherished possessions.

Because its creepy. Most straight men find homosexuality very creepy and wierd so it becomes bad. When theres a discussion about homosexuality, what ALWAYS comes up "Why do we have to see two guys making out...." "I dont want to hear two guys doing it in...." Its ALWAYS two GUYS. Our society seems stuck on thinking that homosexuality means two hairy sweaty guys clinging to eachother and dry humping in public.

But we seem to have NO problem with lesbians. The number one type of porn thats bought in the US is lesbian porn.

The male atitude towards homosexuality is two guys=icky two girls=hot and thats the atitude thats become prevalent. Partly because most of the people making the decisions about this kind of thing are male so they have this mental fixation on gay male sex. Even in the bible, it condemns gay male sex but it never explicitly states that lesbians are bad.

The condemnation of homosexuality, I think, stems from different things in different times and places.

Among the early Jewish community, it makes sense given the small population and the importance of procreation in seeing the fulfillment of their covenant with God. If they believe that God will fulfill their covenant with them by blessing them with countless descendants, then a person in a same-sex relationship (or any non-procreative relationship) is not doing their part.

In the contemporary context, though, I think the condemnation stems from a simple but primitive in-group/out-group mindset. We have been, as a society, enlarging who is "in" for centuries. If I was feeling slightly hyperbolic, I'd say that human history has been the story of our in-group becoming ever larger, although that has been fought at every turn. But, we have seen throughout history that there are people who just NEED an out-group. For some Christians in today's society, as well as for some followers of other religions, gay and lesbian people are unfortunately the out-group.

And, in a few decades things will change and gay and lesbian people will be fully "in," and some other group will fulfill people's primitive need for an "out-group" that feeds their own need for belonging and acceptance.

What does evolution says about homosexuality?

Evolution, in its form as fact and its form as theory, is incorporeal and thus can't say anything about anything.

But, homosexuality can be seen as both positive and negative within the framework of evolutionary theory.

I think of Rome and how it fell when homosexuality and sin ran rampant. I feel our country is heading down the same path. I have a few friends who are openly gay and all I can do is plant a seed, not try to condemn or change them. God will judge, not me.
I just love them as I do all people. I pray they see and change their hearts and lifestyles, but that will be up to them. I just let them know how much I love them and that God loves them.

You do realize that homosexuality and sin were likely much lower at the end of the Roman Empire than at the beginning? It was only after Rome converted to Christianity that it fell.
