Hah ha. That must be the most untrue and hilarious statement throughout this entire thread.the_sam_man87 said:...if you know anything about music you should know that christian musicians have more talent...
I disagree. POD has much musical talent than RATM, however that is a matter of opinion.Caedmon said:Rage Against The Machine kicks POD's tail any day of the week, IMO.
Exactly. Christians don't magically have more musical talent then secular, it's fair game.nadroj1985 said:Come on, that's quite an arrogant statement. I'd like to think I know quite a lot about music, and I don't think the Christian bands I've listened to have more talent than secular ones. So far, my opinion is that they have less. I definitely think there are secular bands that have more talent than POD.
Hmm, I view RATM as a bad comparison. Although I cannot stand Tom Morello's guitar approach (this is completely just my opinion), I recognize that RATM sent shock waves through the world in the mid-90s. It is very foolish to compare a dime-a-dozen rap-metal band such as POD with a trend-setter like RATM.xtxArchxAngelxtx said:I disagree. Doesn't christian mean "little christ"? If you have been crucified with Christ, then why aren't you a christian?xtxArchxAngelxtx said:Just for the record, POD claims to not be a christian band. That does not mean that they aren't saved and do not preach the word of God.
If you want to get techincal, I wouldn't call myself a christian at all, but rather a theist who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ.

peaople misunderstand themeverytime they say this ... they have said they make some secular songs but they also have a vast amount of 100% christian songs on there albums. Hence in my eyes they are a christian bandxtxArchxAngelxtx said:I disagree. POD has much musical talent than RATM, however that is a matter of opinion.
Just for the record, POD claims to not be a christian band. That does not mean that they aren't saved and do not preach the word of God.

I have brought this matter up before in past threads but I do not think i brought it up in this one...Jedi Penguins said:I read through most of this thread, while skipping a page here and there. My lord that took a long time.
I'm not even sure if this point has already been made or not, and if it has I guess I am repeating it.
How can you say whether a band is truly Christian or not? ANY "non-Christian" can right songs about God or religious matters. Evanescence, for example wrote a song called Tourniquet, and most people took it to mean that they were a Christian band, when in reality it was just Amy's struggling to believe whether there was a God or not.
At the time the Lord of The Rings was written many people assumed it was an allegory and were so convinced that is had to be one because Tolkein was a Christian that they made up alliterations that were not even there.
Why must everything have a hidden meaning or a motive to be worth listening to for Christians? Cant something just be written out of talent without the hidden meaning it must contain?
Im still very confused what makes a Christian band, a Christian band. Apparently it cant be because they say they are a Christian. We cant have a bunch of false Christians running around corrupting are minds with there Evil music on the off chance they might not be a Christian.
It also cant be any person who has ever made a mistake while saying that they are indeed a Christian. No bad examples of Christ must be let loose in the media. The non-Christians might think we are human, how dare some people.
So please explain to me when somebody is good enough to be considered a Christian band.
POD's stance is "we are Christians, but we are not a 'Christian Band'...". It's more a function of their not wanting to be part of the "Christian Record Industry Clique" but rather show their faith through their music and be taken on their own merits.xtxArchxAngelxtx said:I agree. I believe POD is the most christian band ever and they even claim to not be christian. I think this way just purly based on their attitude, their music, and their goals.
That's not entirely accurate, and is a personal riff of mine. I was hearing about Evanescence 5 years ago or more, because a guy I was on a mailing list with ran their unofficial website. They've done interviews where they literally said that God and Christ were the whole purpose BEHIND the band. They had songs appear on compilations from Christian record labels. They were, prior to their signing, openly Christian. Which is why Amy, Ben and co. are seriously on my poop list now. They're saying "we never said we were a Christian band, that was a big misunderstanding" and the strongest statement of faiththey'll offer is "we have our beliefs".... which in my mind makes them liars and a textbook case of what happens when a band lets the focus drift....Jedi Penguins said:How can you say whether a band is truly Christian or not? That they do.blackwasp said:Sigh, all too often individuals find a verse that seems to support their argument while ignoring the rest of scripture.

And Tourniquet is actually a cover of a song by the Christian metal band their drummer used to belong to, but that's just trivia ;-)
Anyway, good post.
Are you kiddin' me? Do you know that there are many secular artists out there who spread the message of love, acceptence, encouragement etc. that otherwise would not get through to someone who doesn't listen to Christian music? Do you realize that a lot of "secular" artists also do sing "Christian" music but the song was mis-interpreted? I also know of a few people that have started listening to some Christian music b/c of artists like Lee Ann Womack who usually has one "Christian" song on her cd's yet she's considered "secular". To generalize like you did is in my opinion a mistake. Just b/c someone isn't listening to Christian music doesn't mean that the secular music they're listening to isn't getting a message to them. God works in mysterious ways - who are we to judge? That secular music has saved my life more than once, God speaks to me through music so for you to judge is unacceptable IMO. Just my 2 cents.PreacherFergy said:Is this for non-believers or something?
The Bible teaches Christians shouldn't listen to secular music which doesn't bring glory to God.
Now, an unbeliever, I understand them listening to secular music, but a Christian has no excuse to be listening to the music. It promotes an apathetic and flippant lifestyle toward Christian things.
Can we discuss this?
They never say they are christians either... not publically. Sonny does give his testemony a couple times but never used the word "christian." If they have, I am unaware of it.EliasEmmanuel said:POD's stance is "we are Christians, but we are not a 'Christian Band'...". Well, all I know is both Amy and Ben were very openly Christian for ages before they were signed. I flipped through an interview with them recently and she basically said it was just a cover.....Jedi Penguins said:I did hear that he drummer was Christian, but from what I have also heard Tourniquet was Amy's struggle on what to believe.
