Why is it against Christianity to be left handed?

If so, then those born without a right hand (or those who lose it battle etc.) must be doomed to hell.

I never heard anything so ridiculous. I say Horsefeathers, Purple Horsefeathers.

OK. I read a few sentences of the article....and it triggered something in my memory.

Back in the 1940's...1950's ? ..... they (not sure who they were) thought that children should not be left handed. In Public and in Catholic schools....they would tie the left hand of the left handed student to the back of a chair....and force the child to write with his/her right hand.
My mother told me this.
And...I heard it also from a friend who is in her 70's.

How crazy is that? :o
back about 8 years ago when i was still Catholic, i had my daughter(a lefty) in sunday school class, the teacher just about had a cow when she made the sign of the cross with her left hand!! after much fussing at the poor child ,plus daughters refusal to pray to Mary was asked/told not to bring her back until she could get it right

they believe they are following Jesus with such things? Jesus is so much better than so many churchgoers and church leaders make him seem. that is sad. we need much more bible readings and knowing Jesus personally and less relying on church leaders, that is even a new Testament repeated warning. that is all very sad.

Yes, of course I realize that the article is false and a spoof, I'm an atheist, not an idiot. The point of it was to set up the next question. Mainly that if this absurd argument can be made using the bible, how can other seemingly absurd arguments be valid using exclusively the bible?

The argument was made....but sunk like quicksand.

Not so....with The Bible.

It is a human construction to assume that left is 'evil' whilst 'right' is good.

Maybe so, but it's true in politics....

That was a joke people...but not really. No seriously, it was a joke....

but not really...:p

Of course Reformationist, you are forgetting what people say to remember when a guy gets his ear pierced. "Left is right, and right is wrong." So maybe human nature isn't always correct. :D

I guess I'm right and wrong, since both of my ears are pierced...:p

The specific writings are a deliberate distortion of the truth!
For instance, it is posted
"...
right or left, Jew or Greek, male or female, slave or free (Gal. 3:28).

Yet Gal 3:28 makes no reference to left/right handed.
Gal 3

26You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,
27for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
29If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

I ran across this article (http://www.users.csbsju.edu/~eknuth/rehu/dextera.html) randomly one day (StumbleUpon FTW) and I was surprised to find this is a nearly flawless argument using the Bible stating that being left handed is an abomination. Now, I am left handed, so this worries me a fair amount. Is it only a matter of time before a movement to ban my lifestyle surfaces in America? So of course, I come here to ask is this really valid? The author uses quotes from the Bible that do oppose being left handed. I have a feeling most here will say its quite foolish and the religion has nothing against people like me, but if this solid of an argument can be founded in the bible and still be false, why can near identical arguments like the homosexual one be valid while this is not?
## Just in case no one has said this (which is impoissible to believe) - it's a parody :) Specifically, of the 1986 Letter of the SCDF on "The Pastoral Care of the Homosexual Person".

It's rather well done. I wonder how many other people think it's in earnest :)

This is a great reason to be responsible for your own beliefs, to research for truth and stand on what you know to be true... to rely on primary sources instead of secondary or tertiary. This is why some of the posters above found confidence and surety in reading their Bibles cover to cover.

I know that can sound dull and restrictive, but when we hear so many teachings and philosophies and read so many books, we find that every teaching has a bit of human opinion thrown into it. We need something with which to compare it all.

If we start building our beliefs by layering onto the opinion end of the teaching, we will end up forgetting the core truths, and teaching harmful things like left=evil.

I can't find the graphic I'm looking for to describe the principle, so please bear with my ipod pyramid-cliff concept. The foundation is the first teaching. The top is the shaky one that leads to destruction.
