  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know enough to be able to say "I don't know". I know who wrote what when and why. God may have inspired, but the hand of man is still from the earth. That I don't want to share my tiny piece of heaven with an axe murderer is a given---no one wants to keep one eye open for eternity. However, I am certain there is a better disposition for the looney than setting him on fire. I am also certain that God is smart enough to figure it out.

God may have inspired the bible? He did.

2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

God is true to his word. Hell is eternal, and people wont just cease to exist or something like that - then how can the wrath of God abide on them?

2 Timothy was written against the Marcionites sometime between 100-150AD, who would not accept the things that the author accepted such as "the Odyssey", allowed women preachers, and other "shameful" things that the author disproved of. The author was not Paul.

Being Christian does not mean I haven't gone to school, or that I must suck down without question everything that is handed to me by the church---just the opposite. If you have the spirit of truth, you are motivated to learn, learn, learn.

So, you would much rather see people burn for say, being a good Muslem, than an alternate disposition?

You don't know the nature of God, unless you look at Jesus. How many men did Jesus kill? How many Men did Jesus curse? Who did He condemn? Who did He save?

Do you think God a hypocrite to ask us to forgive our enemies, and that He will refuse to forgive His?

The word of God doesn't contradict itself. God is true to his word. What you said doesn't disprove nor contradict Jesus own teachings:

Matthew 18:8
Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.

Matthew 25:41
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Matthew 3:12
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

John 3:36
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Matthew 25:46
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

If we receive eternal life, and other people perish, then wouldn't that be the opposite of eternal life?

No one has died and gone to "hell", though they might believe it. Nerve synoptics firing away in the brain.

No, have you seen how vivid descriptions people make of heaven and hell? It can't be something like that with the brain. A buddhist went to hell and came back.

It's not a matter of my opinion. None of us deserve heaven. All I can say is that God is just, he is love, he is true to his word.

There is a difference between perishing and eternally being on fire. "Everlasting punishment" is a contradiction in terms. It can either be everlasting, or it can be punishment, it can't be both.

I'm not superstitious.

So you agree with the author of Timothy that Homer's Odyssey should be allowed?

He wrote that all γραφὴ is God breathed, all writing. Somehow we have come to believe that he meant all the writing that is between the leather covers of our Holy Bible is God breathed. That isn't what he wrote. I'm just saying.

I know. Scripture was basically everything written down that wasn't a laundry list. Paul not only didn't write Timothy, but he would have been appalled at some of it. Some of Paul's best friends were women preachers. Paul also railed against applying the Torah among the gentiles; He saw no need to convert them to Judaism. Historical evidence suggest that the "Father" He introduced through Jesus was an unknown God, who was far above even the Jewish God.

no actually we dont, to correct you, we kill the body, not the soul, God is able to kill both body and soul, did you forget matthew already? so its not the same thing, at all.

we are not able to kill the soul, or do you now believe we can, which is it?

it's the same thing

why would He say this?, cause thats exactly what Hes going to do. i know you think God just goes around making idle threats, i dont.
in fact, this verse only bolsters my belief that eternal hellfire is mythical.
so you think that God said this to make people, what, scared? whats more scary than the threat of being burned alive for all eternity?!

'attention humans on earth, i can destroy both body and soul in hell, but you dont need to worry about that cause im going to keep you alive while i burn you for eternity'........sincerely, god.

your posts are unraveling.

you expect God to reinvent the wheel every time He speaks. Sometimes He actually moves on in context to the meat. He doensn't mention milk every time He talks. Sometimes you have to just remember what He said. What if I said that because Jesus doesn't mention the resurrection in every verse that it didn't happen. That Jesus was actually swooned and did not die? Well you would say, Go to the other verses. And thats how you find out that He was resurrected. And thats also how you find out He was talking about burning in those verses of punishment and destruction. Hint: Destruction doesn't mean things cease to exist. I drive by my car at the junk yard every day! So we can destroy our automobiles in the junk yard but they still exist. It is the same way with Hells' destruction. It simply does not mean annihilation.

and btw, this would be considered a warning for us now, on earth, prior to death, not after it. now if it said something like......'do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul, but fear Hiim who will eternally torture, or torment, as you like to put it, in a fiery hell for as long as eternity lasts.......then you would have a verse that at least coincides with your mythological hellfire doctrine. this verse totally contradicts that. it doesnt say that. it says He can destroy both body and soul.

if i tell you i can run 1 mile in under 10 minutes, does that mean i wont do it? your understanding of this verse is illogical. no it doesnt say He will do it, but where do you get from it that He wont? hint......your assuming, and for one who professes to be such an expert at bible interpetation, and debating, ummmmmm.....you assume things, gothca;)

So you are saying He is ABLE to toss in eternal fire but He won't cause He is just trying to scare us? Nice hypocritical God there.

So you are saying He is ABLE to destroy both body and soul in Gehenna but He won't cause He is just trying to scare us (and he would just rather burn us alive and not allow us to die)? Nice hypocritical God there.
