  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why I Don't Believe In Atheism's Creation Myth

Hell to me means eternal separation from God. (I may or may not differ on this interpretation with my other Christian friends) Now if God is what the bible says (Love, compassion, Justice etc...) imagine an eternity without these things, knowing all along it was your choice. That would be hell.

So, the Lake Of Fire I am often threatened with in this forum doesn't actually exist?

No one is going to Hell that doesn't deserve to go.

Does that sound like good news to you?

(YES or NO, please.)

To me, yes, it does. It means that nobody is going to Hell.

I meant this as an analogy, I'm not ignoring anything.

Then your analogy is flawed. It ignores properties of god that that would nullify your analogy, thus they are are not comparable

We chose to sin, in doing this we separated ourselves from God.
Everyone sins. It has nothing do with sin. you sin. do you think your going to hell?

Let me ask you this. If you didn't want to be with God, why would God force you to be with him?
Its your phrasing of the argument that makes this question a rather odd gotcha question. wanting to be with good is not an equal statement to believing god exists without evidence.

--- from The Atheist Experience
you have a being according to your theology that can possibly prevent people from having to suffer eternally and instead of being god and just and caring and actually doing that is instead offering a kind of bribe

The bribe is you need to believe without evidence and you need to worship and adhere and follow my commands.

Did your god create hell?

Does your god create the rules of the universe according t o the criteria for which souls are judged?

Does anything happened that doesn't go according to your gods will?

If you answered yes, yes and no then your god is ultimately responsible for everything including the people who are sent to hell.

i guess you forgot to read the first part of the bible huh? Love and compassion are not words i would use to describe that. Love and Compassion are things that do not require a god.

It depends on what Christian you ask, what their mood is that day, and whether or not they're trying to not agree with something an atheist said.

It exists -
Revelation 2014Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelation 2010And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever
It is a place of eternal suffering for Satan, the Beast, and the False Prophet. Others, whose names aren't written in the Lamb's Book of Life are thrown in there and cease to exist.

Revelation 20 states that it does exist.

I think the point of Split Rock's comment was whether or not the threat for US, as humans is real.

So, not only do you indicate that it exists but that it is indeed for non Christians. Other Christians disagree with you. So, like I said, depends on the Christian you ask, their mood, and the debate they're in.

No, my religion isn't being a Christian. My faith is in God, Jesus and Holy Spirit.

So, this is another version of the "Christianity isn't a religion; it's a relationship with Jesus Christ" flawed argument.

Next time someone suggests that atheism is a religion, I'm going to say "It's not a religion; it's a relationship with reality."

I also never understood why. I think its very symbolic and i understand the symbolism, but... when your dealing with an all powerful all knowing all loving god, he could have chosen the sacrifice to be anything.

A loving god would personally intercede rather then expect people to believe he exists before they actually know he exists.
