  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I grew up in an atheist country. "There is no God, all religions are bad. Faith is blindness" Why faith? Faith is voluntary refusal to think, isn't it? Why faith? We have minds to learn, to seek, to experience, to understand. I do not reject the idea of metaphysical at all. Yes, there might be God, heaven and hell, whatever. All is possible. Why faith? If you don't know something for sure, just say "I don't know". Please be honest, people. Be honest! Why lie your whole life to yourselves and to others? I see no point in that. Waste of time.

Faith has nothing to do with lying.

Faith is trust in something you don't have the intellectual capability to fully understand.

Believing your mind is able to understand all things is arrogant and a waste of time.

Faith is when you let go of your mind and trust God.

Understanding and knowing smth is not the same. People don't know many things. They say they know anyway. It's a lie, cut and dry. Religion is a lie. Not all, but most of it. Inflated imagination. Just be honest, people, please. Stop lying. Enough of religion and especially faith.

Religion is a completely different discussion.

My faith is a trust in the teachings of Jesus Christ as presented in the Bible.

I believe it to be the ultimate truth - not a lie.

No. I have faith that my husband loves me. Even though I can not see love.

I know. I understand. Most dogmas of faith are lies, fabrications, nothing to do with reality. People know very little, but they pretend they know a lot. Lying to themselves is the biggest tragedy.

While faith might mean believing in something you can't prove, it is NOT believing without a reason.

Foolish analogy. You know your husband exists, because you can see, hear, touch, smell, taste him. God? No. It's a totally fake idea, a lie.

No.

Hebrews 11:1
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Faith is more like the word "effect".

אֱמוּנָה emunah
The Hebrew root aman means firm, something that is supported or secure. This word is used in Isaiah 22:23 for a nail that is fastened to a "secure" place. Derived from this root is the word emun, meaning craftsman. A craftsman is one who is firm and secure in his talent. The feminine form of emun is the word emunah meaning firmness, something or someone that is firm in their actions. When the Hebrew word emunah is translated as "faith," as it often is, misconceptions of its meaning occur. Faith is usually perceived as a knowing while the Hebrew emunah is a firm action. To have faith in Elohiym is not knowing that Elohiym exists or knowing that he will act, rather it is that the one with emunah will act with firmness toward Elohiym's will.

M y children used to sing a song that started with the words, "Faith is just believing what God says he will do."
F -FORSAKING
A - ALL
I - I
T - TRUST
H - HIM

It's simply a matter of either you have that trust and you do believe or don't have it and you don't. Even though I believed in God because I was taught to as a child, I never experienced the real trust and true belief that brings salvation until I was in college. After hearing a new friend say she KNEW if she died that night she'd be in heaven, I was absolutely annoyed with such arrogance. I also wanted that same assurance! We argued for months. One night, alone in my dorm room, I decided to "just try" it her way. I prayed, acknowledged I am a sinner, repented of my sin, thanked Jesus for His substitutionary death - for dying on the cross in my place for my sin - and accepted His free gift of salvation. There was no thunder or fireworks, but my life did change. I understood the true meaning of the words belief, faith, and grace.
G - GOD'S
R - RICHES
A - AT
C - CHRIST'S
E - EXPENSE

Do you believe when you flip on that switch on the wall that your lights are going to come on? Do you believe when you turn on your faucet the water will flow? It takes virtually no faith that those things will happen. Jesus said, "..if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there , and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. " Matthew 17:20

Faith is voluntary refusal to think, isn't it?
Faith includes first trusting in God and submitting to how He personally rules each of us in His peace > this is a basic of our Christian calling >

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful." (Colossians 3:15)

So, what we refuse to think is what is not worthy of our trust. There are thinking and excuses which keep us from personally submitting to how God rules us in His own peace. If thinking will have us missing out, this is what we refuse to trust.

And our Apostle Paul says we need "faith working through love", in Galatians 5:6. So, faith is not only about what ideas a person believes. Faith has us connected with God in His love, so His grace is effecting our character so we become gentle and humble and kind like Jesus and submissive to God in His peace.

But in case your own ideas are your god, you will find out how you will become because of trusting your own self to be your god, dictating what you want to be true, then finding out how you become.

Reading or hearing God’s Word is like planting a garden. If you want to grow or “build” a garden, you must first plant the seeds, or the actual plant or flower. God’s Word is the seed that grows the faith. Knowing His promises, what God says about you, about life, and about Jesus’ plan for eternal life won’t transplant themselves into your brain by osmosis. Become familiar with the Bible and what faith is all about by meditating on its contents. This will give you the basis for growing or increasing your faith.

Romans 10:17

17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

But i think that comes after you have found reasons to believe or at least take it seriously.

If this is your question, the answer is that they are convinced. It is not that they have faith in something but for no reason.

If you don't know something for sure, just say "I don't know".
I agree. But you are speaking of people who are persuaded of the truth of that which they believe.

If they were unconvinced, however, then I would agree with you that for them to put their trust in (whatever it might be) would be unjustified.
