Well it is obvious that you completely ignored my post on #1399. So here it is for you again. The news video where Pope Francis says Genesis 1 was a myth and Evolution and the Big Bang is true.
First of all, the story of the fall happens in the SECOND story of Creation, Genesis 2-3, NOT Genesis 1 as you claim.
It's not our fault if they have an overly simplistic idea of what we mean. They jump to conclusions and never bother to ask US what WE mean when WE say it. It reminds me of fundamentalists who say, "Well evolution is JUST a theory." They don't bother to learn that "theory" in scientific terms means something very different than in day to day language.I know the answers, but obviously it's matters like these that people have in mind when it's said that the church has changed doctrines, even though it denies doing so.
It's not because someone wonders if the church has ever changed from believing in the Resurrection to not believing in the Resurrection or vice-versa.
Well, I provided supporting evidence for my claim. Now you have the burden of providing supporting evidence of yours. Otherwise you are only proving that you are in denial and simply do not want to believe the evidence that was provided.
While you are right that such a thing does sometimes happen, I can't agree that ducking the question is much of an answer. Reminded me of Hillary's response to the question about wiping her email server--"You mean, like taking a cloth and wiping the screen??"
Correct. It is not historical. It teaches eternal truths. For example it teaches that man was once in harmony with God, with himself, and with the earth, but learned the difference between good and evil, and by doing so, fell from paradise and now suffers because of it. That is all true.
But isn't Mary supposed to be the second Eve? And now Eve is a myth? How much more of the bible is a "myth". If the Pope flat out said Jesus was a myth like much of secular historians believe, would you believe that too?
Jason, believing in Evolution doesn't mean we can say unequivically Genesis 1 didn't happen because it kind of did, just not in the order that is recorded, not in six 24 hour days, and with a lot of the in between stuff left out. It is true to say that Genesis is not a historical account--it is the genre of myth. It teaches eternal truths, like GOD CREATED and CREATION IS GOOD.

I don't understand your point. Myths are real. They just aren't historical. But they are real. It's just a different KIND of real than history. The Eve in Genesis 2-3 is an archetype. I don't know if you understand that, and if you don't, it would take me way too long to really fully explain to you what that is and its incredible, AWESOME significance and power.
I am concerned with the absolutely blind faith you have, not with Jesus and the scriptures, but with the men who lead the Roman Catholic Church. Honestly, at what point would you say that the bible is right and the church is wrong? Did you know that secular archeology found absolutely no evidence of the Exodus or King David. If the Pope agreed with secular archeology on these issues, would you follow him? What if the ascension of Enoch and Elijah is a "myth"? What if the extra-biblical sources that the Roman Catholic Church follows are a "myth" as well?
