The BBC is always 100% accurate, unless it posts something about Islam, and then if it favours Islam it is accurate and if it doesn't it is inaccurate.

Something about government policy
Oh it works for you but not for them OK. Well every body is entitled to one mistake anyway, even the newspaper reporters.

What!?

How the hell can anyone get married to a 6 year old child?
It says they were married when she was 6 but I think it means they were engaged, but hen waited till she was 9 to have sex with her like a gentleman. I think it was because she got sick but that's just my opinionn. Some muslims say that hadith was mistranslated so they can make him sound better than he was. They never had a problem with it untill the early part of the twentieth century.

It is very worrying that you are unable to grasp the reason why we have scriptures. To everyone else, scriptures - and the commentaries on them- are divine guidance. They don't just talk about things for the fun of them.

Yet for you, when they say something troubling they are mere fables that you shouldn't listen to, or that you should understand in a way that is obvious to the aparent meaning.

Tut tut tut Thehoden, perhaps you should learn about biblical scriptures or islamic ones to try and understand their purposes , then you can see how you should be looking at hindu ones

What should be worrying you is your seemingly disability in reading comprehension.

Puranas are a set of secondary scriptures. Written for a specific purpose.

The scriptures I would call "Holy Scriptures" like the Bible is considered to be for Christians, for Hindus would be the Vedas or the Bhagavad Gita.

There, I used nice small sentences this time, have you understood it now? Maybe all those paragraphs were too intimidating for you.

By the way, are you having typing problems? YOu seem to be unable to spell my relatively simple name.

I doubt that was lehal even if it ever has been done. I don't doubt it that it has been done there's all kinds of weirdos in the world. I was reffering to the hadths about mohammed I don't know that the koran mentions their mariage. Sahih Muslim Book 008, Number 3310:
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) married me when I was six years old, and I was admitted to his house when I was nine years old.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 64
Narrated 'Aisha:
that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 65<I>
<FONT face=Arial>Narrated 'Aisha:
that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old. Hisham said: I have been informed that 'Aisha remained with the Prophet for nine years (i.e. till his death)." what you know of the Quran (by heart)'

Right. I think it will be helpful for the non-Hindus to understand the role of Puranas more if they know that they are the ones that contain information on Ayurvedic medicine, science, etc.
I assume they are similar to the haddiths in that they are separate from your primary scripture and they help explain it. Do you accept all the puranas?

I just want to clear up some things here:

  1. I understood that the Puranas are not scripture from the very first mention of them.
  2. However they are just as important as scripture since they are utilized to explain scripture or at least to convey a concept of scripture. That makes their content questionable to integrity just as the scripture is. That is why I questioned the usage of false stories in a scriptural context to make a point.
  3. I raised a question upon reading an eariler post that lead me to believe that there was no way to tell which stories of the Puranas were true and which were false. Indianx pointed out to me that there is a way to tell the difference; so, that part of my question has been answered.

Once again a thread has descended into flaming. The whole point of NCR is to discuss Non Christian Religions, not put up a provocative OP and then expect it to be proven or denied.

Will you all please post in fellowship and love, I do not want to have to continue to close threads all the time!
