  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anger as Chicago business owner dies in ICE custody after 30 years in US

Gantchev first moved to Chicago 30 years ago on a student visa. Since then, he received a work permit and owned a trucking company since 2008 and married his wife in 2017. The two were in the process of applying for a green card through their marriage. He was arrested on Sept. 23 during an interview for his green card application at the USCIS Chicago office.

Three months after his arrest, on Dec. 16, his wife was informed of his death, the day was also the couple's eight-year wedding anniversary.

In a published statement by ICE, the agency called Gantchev a "criminal," and a spokesperson for the DHS called all allegations of poor treatment in ICE detention facilities "false."

The real criminals are the people running our federal government.

Sometimes I wish I believed there was a God these people will have to one day face.

Democrat returns to troubled ICE facility as Trump's brutality ramps up

“There is not adequate food,” McIver said at a news conference afterward. “There is not adequate medical care. Women are not having access to OB-GYN or female products.”

_______

More than 950 detainees are currently being held there, according to Menendez, who said the facility is nearing capacity without sufficient staffing. He described what detainees told lawmakers during the visit in stark terms, including one person who referred to the center as a “slaughterhouse.”

Menendez said detainees told him they weren’t getting proper medical care and that food remained a persistent problem—complaints he noted have been coming up for months. Earlier this year, those concerns escalated after unrest at the facility led to four detainees escaping, raising fresh doubts about how safely the center is being run and who’s actually in charge.

_______

Lawmakers said many of the people held at Delaney Hall do not have criminal records and were arrested while attending court hearings or legal appointments related to their immigration cases. Others are in the country legally on student visas. One detainee, they said, is married to a U.S. military service member.

_______

Federal officials dispute claims of neglect. In a statement to Politico, Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said allegations that the facility is understaffed are “false,” adding that detainees receive health screenings within 12 hours of arrival, follow-up care, and access to emergency services.

“This is the best healthcare that many aliens have received in their entire lives,” McLaughlin said.

Don't care. All of them can be held and deported. Its all legal. Student visas can be revoked so can others.

I really wonder about the truth of it. Which is true? We can't trust the Democrats at all on this, and I don't know we can trust Homeland either.

Yeah I saw that, but unless they lied about what people said, I still.don't know who to trust these days. Maybe they never talked to the democrats or homeland and made it all up.

I just have trust issues right now.

DKos is left leaning and anyone can write and post a diary there. I have done a few in the past myself. The AP and reuters also reposts their content there from time to time. There are community diaries and ones that are done by staffers. Diaries without good sourcing tend to get taken apart in the comments and down rated. The one I posted was a staff diary. They have the highest standards. It had news links to just about all the claims except the comments by McLaughlin to Politico, but here is the Politico link.

I added the emphasis because we are simultaneously being told undocumented people are getting free healthcare (which Americans don't even get) so we can't provide subsidies to Americans, and that the horrible conditions they are now in is the best healthcare most have ever seen.

There have been several articles with interviews from migrants regarding the conditions and lack of proper healthcare over several months now. Anyone who can be deported immediately is being deported. The majority of the people detained are people who were in the midst of asylum claims or the citizenship process. They goal is to make conditions so bad that they agree to be deported and so that the word of mouth serves as a deterrent to others who may seek to come here.

If you are struggling to decide whether to believe the administration with a history of initially lying about things they later either proudly admit to or get proven as liars over, I don't know what to tell you. Not only have they lied, some have lied to congress under oath and in court over just about every subject that comes up.

ICE supervisor remains jailed as federal prosecutor details years of alleged domestic abuse

According to Garcia, the victim, who is not a U.S. citizen, was 18 years old when she met Saxon, who was 40 at the time. In addition to the verbal abuse, the woman is also a victim of physical abuse, based on the medical reports read by prosecutors. She had a fractured hip, bruises all over her body and ligature marks around her neck, the report said.

I rarely ever talk about politics, I think its bad for the soul to dwell on these things too much.

Yes, I know about ICE. I watch the news sometimes (and I think you guys do too).

I get the gist that ICE is really only hated by liberals? My family are all conservatives and we seem to vote Republican all the time. Yes, we're MAGA Republicans. We were big Trump supporters.

The liberals seem to think that ICE are tyrants there to control and enslave people. I laugh. I think they just don't want to be deported to another country! Lol.

What makes you think they have the power to deport any of us?

That is not my observation, unless you define "liberal" as anyone who objects to Donald Trump? I have quite a few family members who have serious issues with the Trump administration and its actions over the past year, but are not, by any stretch of the imagination, "liberal." Some of them even voted for Trump but have come to regret it.

This is nonsense. If the vehicle is undercover the plates are fictitious to fictitious owners. If Minnesota doesn't like it then don't participate in the program. The givernment can just get the plates from somewhere else.

This is just another feckless whine from a feckless governor who wants illegals in his state. Whatever.

Federal judge dismisses indictment against TikToker shot by ICE, citing constitutional violations

As the officer shouts at Parias to turn off the car, Parias raises his hands in the air and asks why he is being detained. The officer repeatedly tries to open the passenger side door, before moving the gun to his left hand, right before firing.

At the time, Parias’ car did not appear to be moving.

“Oh,” the officer said, sounding surprised. "[FUDGE (in slow motion like A Christmas Story)].”

“Who shot?” someone asked.

“I shot, I shot,” the officer responded.

In his 28-page order, Olguin dismissed the indictment with prejudice, [because of the constitutional violations by ICE, not the careless shooting and lying by ICE] meaning prosecutors cannot refile the same charges of assault on a federal officer using a deadly or dangerous weapon and depredation of government property.

This is nonsense. If the vehicle is undercover the plates are fictitious to fictitious owners.
If a vehicle is unmarked, it doesn't say "Police" on the door, but the plate assigned to it is still the plate assigned to it.

To be clear,Minnesota law prohibits anyone, including the driver of an unmarked law enforcementvehicle, from displaying a Minnesota license plate other than the license plate assigned tothat vehicle by DVS. Minn. Stat. § 168.36, subd. 2. Use of Minnesota license plates on avehicle other than the vehicle to which the license plate is assigned unnecessarily puts DHSagents at risk of being stopped and cited under this section.

As you are aware, DVS has a robust undercover vehicle registration program used by DHSand other state and federal law enforcement agencies operating in Minnesota. This program, authorized by Minnesota Statutes, section 168.012, subdivision 1(c), allows law enforcementagencies to receive Minnesota license plates for use on their unmarked vehicles. Thisprogram ensures that vehicles driven on Minnesota roads are titled and registered as requiredby law while preserving the anonymity of law enforcement personnel performing sensitivework

We didn't have enough immigration judges when this all started. There was a 2 million person backlog of cases. This huge extra expense was an inevitable consequence of detaining people without removing the bottleneck.

California has lost more than a quarter of its immigration judges this year

  • At least 97 judges have been fired nationwide since President Trump took office, and about the same number have resigned or retired.
  • Critics say the departures could mean a loss of due process.
  • The administration has described the immigration court process as an impediment to its deportation goals.
The reduction follows a trend in immigration courts nationwide and constitutes, critics say, an attack on the rule of law that will lead to yet more delays in an overburdened court system.

“We cannot give everyone a trial, because to do so would take, without exaggeration, 200 years,” [Trump] added.

[The Fifth Amendment doesn't care how long it would take. If you don't like it, go change the Constitution.]

Jeremiah Johnson is one of five judges terminated recently from the San Francisco Immigration Court.

Johnson said he worries the Trump administration is circumventing immigration courts by making conditions so unbearable that immigrants decide to drop their cases.

[Or these people face entrapment as they are arrested when going to court hearings, or given a deportation order in absentia if they don't show.]

Immigration courts have a backlog of more than 3 million cases. Anam Petit, who served as an immigration judge in Virginia until September, said the administration’s emphasis on speedy case completions has to be balanced against the constitutional right to a fair hearing.
