I wear a cross as a reminder of the commitment I have given to Christ.

Christ has taken my sins for me, that means he wears my pains, my fears and my mistakes so that ultimatly I dont have to. My cross is a constant physical reminder of this whenever I make decisions in my life that could cause Jesus more pain. It is a reminder to keep myself accountable for my actions.

Jesus died for me, and I want to live up to that gift.

This is something that has intrigued me for some time. Some Christians I meet display a cross on a chain around their neck. Could the Christians here who similarly wear a cross please explain why you do it?

I love wearing a cross, it makes me feel proud and I think they're beautiful. Looking at them makes me feel peaceful. Sometimes when upset and praying I sometimes grab my cross around my neck, especially when sad. My boyfriend doesn't think crosses should be worn, or even used in churches, and that is fine, we all view it differently.

Some christians do it, wanting to remember His death.
Personally,
tho God did lay down His life, for each of our sins, many of us choose believing that GOD, as Jesus Christ, wants us to focus on: beyond His *resurrection* also as well our own. Thus, many of us do/will not wear a 'cross'.

An additional reason for this: the former, has many christians continually 'depressed'; whereas the latter practice has many of us continuing being, thinking & feeling full... as in cheerful...helpful... hopeful... peaceful... & charityful...

another additional Insight helping you in your Christian-explorations!

I wear a cross as a reminder of the commitment I have given to Christ.
So would you forget your commitment if you didn’t wear a cross? That seems like a pretty weak commitment if you need to be reminded of it constantly.

Christ has taken my sins for me, that means he wears my pains, my fears and my mistakes so that ultimatly I dont have to. My cross is a constant physical reminder of this whenever I make decisions in my life that could cause Jesus more pain. It is a reminder to keep myself accountable for my actions.
This explanation is confusing because you contradict yourself. You say that you need to be reminded to keep yourself accountable for your actions, but you also say that Christ wears your mistakes so that ultimately you don’t have to. Which is it? Are you to be held accountable for your actions or not? Having someone else wear your mistakes is not being held accountable for them. Being forgiven for your actions is not being held accountable for them. Is Christian belief just used as an excuse not to be held accountable for your actions?

Not all do, some believe it to be an outward showing of an inward faith, and others still see them to be idols. While other still do it because that's what "christians" do..
I asked those who actually wear a cross to respond and explain their personal reason for doing so. Given that you have responded, I’m assuming you wear a cross, but all you’ve given me is speculative reasons why others may do it. Could you please explain why you do it?

Given that you have responded, I’m assuming that you also wear a cross, but your explanation is open to interpretation. Do you display it to protect yourself from colds or swine flu? Do you display it to comfort yourself because you are sad? Or do you display it to ward off evil smells?

Personally, I wear one sometimes because my faith is important to me.
Could you clarify this, please? Your explanation appears to be a non sequitur. Your faith may be important to you, but what does that have to do with displaying a cross around your neck? Is it to advertise that importance to everyone you meet? To what end?

Could you please clarify what you mean by feeling proud? The synonyms for proud are arrogant, haughty, lordly, insolent, overbearing, supercilious and disdainful. Is that really the impression you are trying to convey? Maybe it is. Maybe Christians do feel all those things when they wear a cross. I just want to be sure I’m not misunderstanding you.

Wouldn’t it be more correct to say it is a reminder of how much you imagine, think or believe your heavenly father loves you? Again, why would you need this constant reminder? Would you forget if you didn’t display a cross around your neck? Or is it, as I’m beginning to suspect, not a reminder to yourself, but a reminder to others how privileged you think you are to be so favoured by your heavenly father?

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t glean your personal reason for displaying a cross from this disjointed, inarticulate mess. Could you try to explain it more concisely, please?

really? - what part of "many of us do/will not wear a 'cross'.", did you fail to understand?

I then went on to give a further reason why many of us do not engage that practice. -
Yes, you asked for people, who did; but I was offering 2 Positive, Constructive reasons, why not. Understood? :)

Here’s another Christian who needs to be reminded of something.
Sometimes for example, in the heat of the moment I need to be reminded to ground my response in love. Or, in a moment of temptation to do something I shouldn't (or avoid something I should), to resist. Good on you if you don't make mistakes - I do and can use all the help I can get.

First, reminded of what? Second, would you forget whatever it is if you didn’t display a cross around your neck?
A little more often. Just to note, I don't normally display a cross around my neck - I sometimes wear one (usually wooden) but normally under my shirt, or carried in a pocket. But I do tend to display cross or fish on my lapel. So the two halves of my original answer are somewhat separable - I wear the displayed one because it provokes interesting questions from my students.

So you need to wear a cross to keep yourself in check? You appear to be saying that you need the constant reminder of wearing a cross in order to be a good person. That’s a little disconcerting. Again, would you forget or be unable to be a good person if you weren’t wearing a cross?
