• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why didn't this explode ?

OK. Go ahead and make your stupid false accusations.

I trust that anyone reading this post will see that I did not say that it's worse when a Roman Catholic does it.

Funny how you can judge someone as "stupid" but hate the words "Mo" and "Ron"

I think the media has an agenda to sell papers with shocking headlines, to the detriment (in this instance) of all Christians. It's not a good time to think about this denominationally.

From my perception, and I think it is a correct one; protestant, Evangelical, Mormon, and Jehovas Witness child molestation cases are always page B2 in the local papers while Catholic child molestation cases are always A1 front page national headlines.

Apparently, claims against other denominations don't shock or sell.

Three or so years ago there was a Mormon case in Sacramento in the local section and a few days later a Mormon lady's letter to the editor followed. She questioned why the paper had to list the name of the Temple or Mormonism in the article. You believe she would write such a letter or express a similar opinion if it had been front page RCC ?

Get back to the topic.

I am still seeking opinions on why the RCC can't shake this and whe the protestant scandals have been swept or ignored by the media.

I thinks it's like others have already said ... the Catholic Church is seen &/or professes that She should be seen as THE moral authority. And when you have such heinous sins and abuses by members of such authority, then the scandal is even greater. The Catholic Church is held, and rightly so, to a higher standard. Not that individual Priests and Bishops don't sin ... but that they are expected to do better.

Plus you have secular or liberal interests who seek to discredit the Church.

since we're not minding our own business, consider that if something to this effect happens in at Lutheran Church, and it's reported in the news, an independant Baptist or a Presbyterian Church/congregation isn't going to consider it their problem. They're not unified in that respect, they only respect unity with one another when they agree. With the Catholic church we're all one so it's all of ours problem.

And he was correct. His post was reported and it was uncalled for.

Ok people, either you go study the true meaning of the word debate or you let the mod team take care of things.

There have been spiteful reports going on for the past 24 hours and you are driving us insane.

PLEASE! Think before you hit that button!
mea culpa. my apologies. evidently the definition of debating is different in the Ecumenical Team to in the Theology Team.

And how was it uncalled for?

Did I debate? No. Did I say that Roman Catholicism is wrong? No. Did I suggest anything that runs counter to Roman Catholic teaching? No.

This, coming from the girl who says that asking a question is "debating".

I read this as saying the reports were uncalled for, and those making the reports were unaware of what debating was (and that included myself).

WarEagle, I give all of your posts (in OBOB) as an example. Please re-look over all of them from our perspective. I'm not accusing you of trying to be this way, I'm just saying that it's hard for us to percieve your posts in any other way.

"All of your posts" is not an example.

If you can't give an example, I understand. That seems to be about par for the course here.

As other have aptly stated, the issue here is not, for reasonable people, the fact that some priests wind up being child molesters. That's bound to happen occasionally in any organization that involves work with children, unfortunately. It's problem amongst school teachers also. The issue that sets the Roman Catholic molestation scandal apart is that, when the abuse was uncovered and brought to the attention of the bishop, in many dioceses these priests had their abuses covered up and then were systematically reassigned to new parishes where they abused more children. Sometimes some similar stuff happens in Protestant circles, but there usually isn't this bishop figure, who should know better, doing it systematically, it's often John Smith the engineer who works as a plumber during the day trying to make a quick decision to remove the pastor and not thinking through that he might resurface elsewhere. And I think that does make a difference in the popular mind. I don't think one has to be anti-Catholic to feel that the abuse scandal in the Church was a little different than the average abuse scandal.

Help me understand why YOU were accused of debating, I judged you had NOT been debating,,, and yet you are still unhappy?

DLF, I don't want to bring your heartrate up :)
I just can't continue to derail this thread. I promise to do my best.

As for the OP, I think the news didn't blow up because of many of the other reasons stated and also because lately the 'hot' news now has much more to do with wildfires and Spears/Federline. It's just a wierd demographic that is being reported to right now.
I also think it would blow up, if the church that the pedophile was at had another pedophile in their ranks and it came to light soon after. Sort of like the dominoe affect that happened with the Catholic Church.
