Heissonear, here's something called THE CARBON CYCLE. It's a simplification of the process but it is a good way to get you started on this topic!

The reason that CO2 is an important greenhouse gas in this discussion is that when we put excess (that means "extra") CO2 in the atmosphere it takes longer to get it back out! More trees definitely helps but there's other things that use CO2. Things that live in the ocean and make SHELLS. Or things like CORALS.

These things take time to utilize CO2 and that means it takes longer for excess CO2 to come out of the atmosphere once we put it in there! And then we also have places where we are DEFORESTING (that means removing a lot of trees). When we do that we wind up with CO2 taking a long time to cycle back out of the air!

This is something called the HYDROLOGIC (WATER) CYCLE:

Can you see how it is DIFFERENT from the CARBON CYCLE? The excess (extra) water that goes into the air can come back out quickly as PRECIPITATION (you may have seen something called RAIN or SNOW where you live!)

Have you ever seen a day that started out SUNNY but then got CLOUDY and RAINED? Well that's the HYDROLOGIC cycle at work! So if you put a lot of EXTRA water in the sky it can re-equilibrate back out quickly!

I hope you enjoyed this! Science is WAY cool!
