As three is the number of perfect union so we have three arch angels...

1. Michael - Over strong angels
2. Gabriel - Over wise angels
3. Lucifer - Over worshiping angels

I believe that the creation of this universe is in response to the rebellion of Lucifer. They know that we were created to fill their vacated position and war with us to try to keep us from their old toys!

Here's a question: why create a universe? And why create life, specifically human beings, on planet earth?

Reminds me of an exchange between an android and scientist in the movie Prometheus.

I don't know exactly how it goes...but the android asks the scientist "Why do you think your people made me?"

He says, "We made you because we could."

Android replies, "Imagine your disappointment if you found out they made you for the same reason."

Why would it be backwards if God created them so that they might fellowship with him?

It doesn't explain why God created them. It puts responding to the needs of human beings before their existence.

Boredom?

I think that the standard answer is something like "to give glory to God". IOWs, God "needs" someone to sing his praises, if God can be said to need anything at all. No, that never really made sense to me.

eudaimonia,

Mark

The notion that God created the world for his glory does not mean that God has some need to be worshipped. God did not create the world out of any need of his. I believe that God created the world for his glory, but I take this to mean that God created the world out of a free act of self-expression. His creation glorifies him - it reveals truths about him and shows him to be most wise, most gracious, most knowledgable, most loving, most just, etc... But this is just the creator freely expressing himself. He created out of free joy and love. He created because it pleased him to do so.

If three is a number of "perfect union" then why does god only want a man and woman to marry? Why not two guys and a girl, or three girls, or two girls and a guy?

God is alive, so the most logical answer as to why He creates is to bring more life unto Himself.

If I were a living God that's exactly what I'd do because it would bring me joy and happiness to create more life and give of myself and receive genuine love and praise.

The OP is a bit of an impossible question to answer, since we can only answer from our own perspective, and comparing our perspective to an intelligence that's superlatively higher than ours is probably unfair. I create because it's good to create goodness, even if it's an approximation of goodness. Maybe God creates because it's better to expand on goodness than not to do so. That is, the only thing better than goodness is expanding goodness.

The notion that God created the world for his glory does not mean that God has some need to be worshipped. God did not create the world out of any need of his.

Then why did he command that his people should have no other other gods before him? Not to mention this:

"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5).

This clearly expresses a desire to be worshipped. Which would be considered despotic and tyrannical if any human leader expected that of his subjects.

Well, you don't make things unless there's a point. So assuming God made the universe, there must have been a point.

There really shouldn't be a reason why we can't figure it out. In spite of our limited perspective, we can know things about theology through the Bible and through reason.

Here's another question: why create anything at all? That includes the heavenly realm, angels, etc.

And mine was a serious answer. I would create a universe out of sheer boredom. Not like I would have anything better to do as a deity by itself.
In that case I would say your motives are morally suspect.

I think we can rule boredom out as an answer for a morally perfect being.

Because we will one day create a super AI.

This super AI will travel back to the dawn of time and create the universe to ensure its own existence is preserved for all eternity.

This is how this super AI knows everything that will happen in the future.

It is called predestination.
