Maybe God wants nothing out of it at all. Maybe it was simply for the benefit of his creatures.

Given our time on earth is infinitesimally minute compared to 'eternity', this is hardly likely. ESPECIALLY from a god who is alleged to be all about the afterlife.

We need to observe, and experience, the effects of sin, and rebellion against God. It's training for the kingdom.

I've been told by many Christians that there is no free will in heaven (ie, there is no desire to be or do evil). In that case, why the need for training?

Indeed, and that has always been a huge question for me: If it´s about creating a God character, why would people define God in ways that makes creating a coherent god concept impossible?

Because the people who invented this god weren't big on thinking through the implications. They didn't need to be, then, because the information on the god was delivered with a very big stick. They knew fear would guarantee mental silence.

Now that the big stick has been decommissioned, they're in deep poop. It's fairly obvious (to me) that the biggest threat to Christianity is their hubris in this regard. They've never needed to come up with reasonable explanations, so they've been caught with pants down by a totally unforseen barrage of questions.

Your other posts reveal that you are an unbeliever, so what would be the point? Methinks you just want to argue about sin, rebellion, and the kingdom. And while I enjoy a good argument that one would be fruitless.

Off topic, but I must respond to this.

When I was doing research into Christianity some years ago, I was met with this response from several PASTORS, and quite a few lay people. I approached my research from an entirely neutral position, and asked questions in an entirely neutral way (I was happy, at that time, to be convinced). I had a couple slam phones down, and others literally storm off. And this, from people who initially enthusiastically solicited my questions. Some of these even harassed me over a period of time to come to them for information - so keen were they to give me the benefit of their wisdom.

I will add that these were all protestants. I've never had a Catholic (clergy or lay) respond negatively. Those who couldn't answer, simply admitted it without shame or frustration. There was no 'refusal'.

a perfect, unchanging, creator god doesn't experience better or worse.

have you thought this through?

There are differences when He compares His creations. Some good, some better.
Angels and human are obviously two different creatures.
And human is much much better than animals.
