Why conservatives are boycotting paypal

I'd prefer they actually chose a country where people are being more than slightly inconvenienced to protest, something that would actually showed that they cared about the issue for more than the free publicity it'll bring them.

There have been plenty of companies that stopped doing business with Russia over their recent anti-gay laws. PayPal cares sooo much about the issue they weren't one of them.

How about if they had a reasonable expectation that their actions would shine the light on the lesser situation but go ignored in the more drastic case? Does not the idea of actually being effective make more sense?

It's kind of hard to make the claim that we do while supporting two of the worst violators doesn't it?

I don't know. Does supporting those two invalidate any other actions the US takes?

Apparently you really don't understand the bill. The bill states that one must use the restroom of the gender on their birth certificate. There are transgendered people who have physically made a complete transformation, and they are now victims because they have to use the bathroom of the other gender.

The correct bathroom for a transgendered person is the bathroom of their gender now, not when they were born.

If Paypal really believes in what they are saying and aren't just moralizing hypocrites they will stop doing business in the above countries.

They didn't stop doing business in NC, they decided not to expand operations (a physical presence of employees) in a polity with policies it felt did not treat their employees fairly. In how many of those countries do they have physical offices?

There never was a way to tell. It's not like employs are allowed to look in someone dress or pants. Or make them take a DNA test. I'm sure Transgender people have been using the bathroom of their choice for years. And people didn't noticed. Who care what genes say anyways.

Great. So tell me, which of the people in this picture would you object to in a woman's bathroom stall? And which secretly has an XY gene? I will prefix this by pointing out that none of them have undergone corrective surgery or hormone therapy, at least of the type that most transgender individuals undergo.

To me, the key point here is that what makes "male" and "female" relevant is context-dependent. When it comes to sexuality, it's usually body type - we're attracted to certain characteristics (and it's fair to say that many of the men who are into, say, Bailey Jay are very close to 0 on the Kinsey scale). When it comes to sports, it has to do with average physical ability. When it comes to driver's licenses, it matters for the purpose of identification and even then is fairly mediocre. So what matters when it comes to bathrooms? What, effectively, determines who should use what bathroom? What part of being a woman is particularly relevant to whether you should use the women's bathroom or the men's bathroom, and vice-versa? I don't think you're going to find it in a person's genes or jeans.

So you are claiming that if PayPal does not attempt to use it's influence in every location it operates to better LGBTQ causes it does not really believe in those causes? So until the US stops supporting China and Saudi Arabia we don't care about Human rights violations?

paypal has steep fees. And there are alternatives out there. But there is another reason many conservative organizations are putting out an alert to close down all paypal accounts.

I am a believer in the Bible, and I do not like people bullying others into views that go against their conscience or religion. People even before capitalism, flocked to america because of this freedom of religion.

I am closing my account at paypal based solely on an american family action alert last week.

I will post the link for you to read.

It accuses paypal of bullying a state to accept co-ed bathroom policy. And denial of service of paypal for the entire state because of a recent law.

this is not acceptable on many levels.

this thread is not advice, as I am not stating to do so.

I am simply mentioning that others are doing this, and that I have in fact closed my account. mainly because ebay card payments now. The only thing I sacrificed was steep fees at paypal, and a warranty that may never be used. Ebay warranty or piece of mind is not really existent. But again, if you go to any flee market, you dont' get a warranty either.

No, writing a law that stops any municipality from enacting laws creating transgender protections are not an attempt to keep laws uniform. They are an attempt to invalidate local laws.

You don't understand how government works. In Ohio we have concealed carry. Local ordinances that would affect that right are not allowed because that could cause someone to break the law simply by crossing a street. These types of laws are done in all states all the time.

Um - I hate to tell you this but X and Y are chromosomes, not genes.

And beyond the nondisjunction issues already listed, there can be issues of chimerism where some body parts are XX and others are XY. Not to mention androgen insensitivity syndromes (AIS) where a person with XY develops as a female.

Jamie Lee Curtis is supposedly XY with AIS.
There is also some who think Nichole Kidman is also XY with AIS. If so, that makes Tom Cruise gay as he married him.
