Why can't Calvinism and Arminianism both be true?

Show you? How? The fact that God instructs us to do works (NOT to be saved) The Bible says that God planned WORKS ahead of time for us to do. If you are working on behalf of God Are you not doing works for God?

(Php 2:13) For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

The good works that He has prepared for us to do, Eph. 2:10, are works that we do because He works in us.

(Joh 6:28) Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

(Joh 6:29) Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

The Lord Jesus Christ was answering some folks that had just seen Him work a miracle and wanted to be able to do those things as well. He had just told them that the works to labor not for meat that perishes but for the meat that endures unto everlasting life. He was speaking of faith in Himself His answer to them in the first passage that I quoted shows that not only that if they wanted to do the works of God it was to believe on Him. Also He was telling them that faith in Him is a work of God done in the believer by God.

Let me also add:

"So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do." -Lk. 17:10 (KJV)

The ultimate "work" of righteousness, was done at Calvary.

Anything, anything less that does not exceed that which was done by Christ, fails.

I'll admit, I'm just an unprofitable servant.

God Bless

arminianism is God holding/extending out the fishing rod of prevenient grace waiting for people to bite.

calvinism is God throwing out the net of irresistable grace and pulling all those who are his to himself.

QUOTE="PrettyboyAndy, post: 70164143, member: 249733"]John Macarthur has a great message:

Twin Truths: God’s Sovereignty and Man’s Responsibility

It explains that both God is soverign in election, and man is also responsible. To me it seems both Calvinism and Arminianism are true.

Why can they both not be true?
