Why are you Single?

I don't do the dating thing, because now that I've come to Christ, I've come to understand God's plan for marriage.

When a man and a woman fall in love with each other and want to be with each other for the rest of their lives, they ask a preacher to pronounce them Man & Wife before God.

My idea of marriage is not compatible with the dating scene, and I've never really been one for dating anyways. My opinion of an idea marriage would be for me to get to know a woman in the natural course of my life, fall in love with her and we want to marry each other.

Well, I'm single because this has not happened yet. Sadly, too many women out there (and men too) think that they should be trying to MAKE it happen, rather than waiting on God to place someone that He intends them to be with in their lives.

When Man tries to take matters into his own hands, things get disastrous. See: Abraham, Sarai, and Hagar.

I'm not gonna do that to myself and some poor woman. I'm going to wait for God to place a woman in my life that He wants me to be with.

Acts 5:38-39 might not be talking about marriage, but I believe it can be applied to marriage. What God intends, cannot be overthrown, for He has the power to make it happen.

Maybe when my cat goes away it may be a man comes into my life. Thats funny, as far back as I can remember we've always had pets.

I remember the last time I dated, and I thought, well, if this man and I married, what would happen to Socks? Thats the cat in my avatar.

It was a prerequisite that any intended had to like my pet as well. Imagine, if you married and your spouse was allergic or hated dogs(cats, birds, hamsters, chickens, insert animal here) but you just adored them. The animals followed you wherever you went but won't go near your spouse. That would be a hard living arrangement.

I am single because no woman likes me enough to not see my imperfections as barriers to love. That's not a criticism of myself or women. It is simply the reality that exists at the present time. It hasn't always been this way, and it may not stay this way.

I am currently dating someone. But in the past here is a brief review of why I was single at each stage in life.

High school: I got video games and hockey. Who need girls?

University: All the girls I find attractive are already dating. The exotic images and videos that I was addicted to skewed my standard of beauty so much that I literally found the average girl ugly.

Job 1: No one told me that you meet much less girls once you leave school and enter the working world. Instead of going to 5 classes a day, each with maybe 30 girls, now I just go to work with 3-5 girls for 8 hours a day, day in and day out. And I didn't found them attractive.

Post graduate: I was in mid/late 20's. All the females in the classes were like 30-50. One was my age but she was a single mother.

Female friends: The girls I know since childhood see me more as a friend and brother. No romance there. And I wasn't really interested in any of them that way. None of them recommended their friends to me for dating.

Church 1: My old church was very tiny. Same problem as in Female Friends above.

Job 2: There were 2 girls my age in the office. Both were dating.

Social activities and hobbies: Play video games didn't get me any girls. I did tried to be active and joined clubs in Meetup.com. However I wasn't the most confident guy out there. At the end it wasn't enough.

Learning from Pick up Artists: I read books and watch videos from Pick Up Artists. I felt that I was ready. The very first girl I use them on was a Christian, because I wanted to date Christians. She had red hair and so after some chatter I complimented her hair. She was HIGHLY offended and walk away from me. As it turns out these tricks and methods will only work on girls who are open to these kind of casual sex relationships. When you compliment a girl of her looks within 5 minutes, the girl knows what is up. The plan is to just keep talking to many many girls this way until you find a lady that is open to casual sex. There really isn't any magic to their methods. The pick up artists' tricks do not work if you are serious about a girl and want a long term relationship with her. This obviously isn't for me so I never used it again. (I did learn to be more confidence as a result. So it wasn't all for nothing. The confidence is good. The tricks weren't good. )

Job 3: The co-workers here were too young for me to date. I was in my late 20's by then and they were maybe 18-22.

Job 4: No girls here. Zero.

Church 2: Big church. Many girls. But the two girls I shown some interest in "ran away" from me and it gets very awkward when I talk to them after. I never tried to date other girls in the church after that. Too painful and I do see those 2 girls every Sunday, even if the church is big.

Online dating: Here is where I found my first ever GF at 31 years old and my current GF and 32 years old.

Nutshell: I'm broke.

The recession cost me a good office job, and so I had to start over from scratch in another field. This put me several years behind where I wanted to be, and so between this and Obamacare there are months where I have trouble just paying my bills.

I can't wait to have a Christian girlfriend. I'm not meant to be alone, I like company from women too much, and get lonely real easy. Some people are meant to be single (I guess, very few though imo), but I'm definately not one of them. Besides Christian dating sounds so fun and fulfilling spiritually.

We aren't that far apart in age, but I'm a junior in college and she's still in high school, so we're kinda in different worlds at the moment.

Also, people younger than me often turn out to be super annoying... meaning this is the first time I've liked anyone younger than me.

She isn't a typical 17 year old, though... she's really smart, and she might be more mature than I am.

A lot can happen between now and September. Passion is a very strong thing, let alone lust. You're hesitant for a reason, listen to that hesitation is my advice. I don't know the situation completely, and could be wrong, but I just see red flags being thrown up.

Morally it's probably fine if you're that close in age, legally is another thing. 17 is 17 is 17.
