Which points to the fact the Bible is a human construction not a manual issued by God which is to be followed to the letter of the law.
Yes.

John not being in the Bible would point to It being the product of human construction.

But guess what?

John is in the Bible.

No, to help you understand it better. The Bible is a revelation from God; isn't it worth at least a little effort on your part to learn more about it?

I find it very difficult to believe
very much, if any of it, comes from God.

What is it about it that seems so to you?

That's right.

Else every jot & tittle will eventually get reduced to myth.
That is more likely to be caused by Christians like you. Perhaps the greatest loss in Christians occurs when the children of fundamentalists get out into the real world and see how wrong the beliefs of their parents are. They quite often end up dropping the whole Bible as a result.

Wow... You must be so important to have the awesome responsibility to defend every jot & tittle from the likes of... Everyone else.

You realize that you're just one comma away from a kleptomaniac, don't you?

AV -- takes everything literally.
Kleptomaniac-- takes everything, literally.

That's why the Epic of Gilgamesh was written long after the Flood.

But what the author of that epic overlooked is the fact that an eyewitness, who was actually there and on the Ark during the Flood, was still alive to provide eyewitness testimony of what actually happened.

And even if he was alive, to whom would he have given this eyewitness testimony? Did he just hop here, there and yonder all over the Fertile Crescent with his personal account?

Moreover, it's a bit of a stretch to think that the author of Genesis had this Creation/Flood/Babylonian narrative downloaded by fiat into his mind. We don't know that the Lord gave it to Moses "just that way." To assume that God did isn't a big act of faith on our part for doing so; instead it's just a big assumption that we don't have cling to.

You appear to have misunderstood. The story in John of Jesus and the adulterous woman appears to have been added to the Bible. I am a bit lazy, this was the first source that I came upon that mentions this. There are better ones:

One of Jesus’ Most Famous Lines Wasn’t in Original Gospels

"The problem is that this story wasn’t originally in the Gospel of John. It didn’t become part of the Bible until at least a hundred years after the Gospel of John was written. "

"The earliest manuscripts of the Gospel of John show no trace of the story. It’s simply not included in the text. The two earliest manuscripts of John (known as P66 and P75), which were written in the second and early third centuries, do not include it. Nor do the mid-fourth century books Codex Sinaiaticus and Codex Vaticanus, the earliest complete collections of the New Testament."

Many modern Bibles even acknowledge this openly.

More quibbling?
We are aware the old timers were
ignorant and serstitious - common fault
these days.
But why bring it up, " total flood denialisticalism
or whatev is about today,
not the moldy den of antiquity.

I only brought it up for the reasons I mentioned earlier, AND for the reason that my earlier quip was addressed to AV rather than to you. ;)

"Some guy"? Oh, c'mon, now, stevil!!! As if.

Most American atheists "know" who this "some guy" is.:ahah:

Time to come up out from under the brush down there in New Zealand.
LOL. NZ is far less religious than USA. People don't typically talk religion here, we typically don't know what religion various people belong to. We just get on with life.

I suppose life is a bit different down in NZ, and I'm sure it does make more sense to just get on with life rather than spinning one's wheels in keeping track of every popular American Skeptic presently appearing on various youtube channels (like Bart Ehrman).

Obviously... We're talking history, not prophecy.

Overlooked? I suspect that the author of Gilgamesh relied on Utnapishtim's testimony extensively.

I hope you realize that all these pieces of garbage they're finding are because they didn't rot away completely.

And why didn't they?

It's because the common people wouldn't touch them.

Instead they would either LOL or just shake their heads and forget about them.

Vaticanus was found hidden away in the Vatican, and Sinaiticus was found in a trash can.

I know of Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens.

I don't seek them out, don't look upto them. They are just people with opinions.
Perhaps they are very useful for people trying to break out of religion. But I've never been in religion.

Although I do like Dawkins books on science, biology etc. And his appearance in Nightwish, very majestic and poetic.

Ok. You're familiar, then, with a few of the more illustrious New Atheists who, along with Daniel Dennett, have had some popular following over the past few decades or so.

That's interesting to know since so many here in the U.S. have looked up to them.

Oh yeah, you're right! Dawkins is a solid biologist, but he's not much of a philosopher or an expert handler of religious study, let alone an authority on Christianity. We have to take some of his gripes with a grain of salt.

Thanks for letting me know your position and your brand of investment in these issues. That way I can scratch you off of my Christian Forums troll list and place you on my "Legitimate Skeptic" list.
