• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Take note:

Revelation 20:10 (NASB)
10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Yes, the beast and the false prophet. You can take ONE verse from Rev. and maybe ONE other verse from the entire bible that do in fact seem to say that sinners will indeed live forever in torment, and you would have to put a thousand times more weight on them than the multitude of verses that say stuff like the wages of sin is DEATH, not to mention all the verses that speak of God's righteous judgment.

I look forward to you answering my arguments instead of saying you look forward to see me argue with God. By the way, do you in fact look forward to such a thing?
I don't have to answer to you. But you have to answer to God.
Why? How?
Because those who repent will receive mercy.
If you refused to repent for stealing my car, would I be justified in gouging your eyes out?
I didn't steal your car.

The false prophet being a human. God indeed punishes in fire forever.

Only in this life.

Yes, and no hint in scripture of any other punishment beyond that. Is God unjust if those folks are not burning in hell now?

The point is how God views rebellion against Him (sin).

Deuteronomy 28:53 (NASB)
53 "Then you shall eat the offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom the LORD your God has given you, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will oppress you.

And the fulfillment:

"With their own hands compassionate womenhave cooked their own children,
who became their food
when my people were destroyed.
The Lord has given full vent to his wrath;
he has poured out his fierce anger.
He kindled a fire in Zion
that consumed her foundations." (Lamentations 4:10-11)

"O Daughter of Zion, your punishment will end;
he will not prolong your exile. (Lamentations 4:22)

Again, was God unjust for ending their punishment?

I don't have to answer to you. But you have to answer to God.
You don't have to "answer to me," but it's common courtesy to answer questions and address the arguments instead of brushing them off with "you are confused" and "I look forward to see you argue with God."

BTW, I'm not going to answer to God. Jesus has answered for me already. He IS the answer :)

Because those who repent will receive mercy.
How does people receiving mercy make it fair that those who don't shall burn forever?

I didn't steal your car.
OK, but someone did. Would I be justified in gouging his eyes out?

No hint?

Revelation 14:9-11 (NASB)
9 Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, "If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 "And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."
And the fulfillment:

"With their own hands compassionate womenhave cooked their own children,
who became their food
when my people were destroyed.
The Lord has given full vent to his wrath;
he has poured out his fierce anger.
He kindled a fire in Zion
that consumed her foundations." (Lamentations 4:10-11)

OT does not overrule NT.

Revelation 20:10 (NASB)

Jesus is God. Are you saying we don't have to answer to God for what we do?

Salvation is only for those who repent and believe in Jesus.

The Christian response would be to forgive as God commanded. What He does and what He commands of us are not the same. We are sinners. He is omniscient, omnipotent and righteous.

What haven't I answered?
"So it's not about what people actually do, it's about whether or not the one who is judging is all-knowing or not?

By that rationale, the more you know, the more justified you will be to torment someone."

To which you replied, "you are confused."

Jesus is God. Are you saying we don't have to answer to God for what we do?
Yes. Jesus has already answered for us. He IS the answer, the way and the life. He IS your righteousness.

Salvation is only for those who repent and believe in Jesus.
To be more accurate, salvation is for everyone, it's already a done deal. And then we (possibly) get to make a choice to "accept" or "reject" it.

The Christian response would be to forgive as God commanded. What He does and what He commands of us are not the same. We are sinners. He is omniscient, omnipotent and righteous.
So the more you know about a person, the more justified you are in torturing him? The more power you have, the more justified you are in torturing him? The more righteous you are, the more justified you are in torturing him?

God, who according to the bible, IS righteous and IS love, puts to a much higher standard than Himself? He wants me to forgive you, but He Himself has no intention of doing so, unless you happen to "accept" the gospel that you may or may not get to hear in your life, since He does love you and all...

But in essence, what you are saying here is that we should be more forgiving and merciful than God.

That's exactly the predicament I found myself in. God didn't seem to have any interest in giving up His top spot to me though, so He knocked me upside the head with His grace.

He's so cool. lol

Do you see more than two bible verses that seemingly say that hell means eternal suffering?

two that can be proven, the rest fall into place after you accept eternal torment.
