  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Note: I am NOT advocating abortion. I hate it as much as the next person; however, I believe it is up to the woman to make the choice, NOT the government.

Few points:

1) The use of the word "baby" is disingenuous. A baby, by definition, is a human being after birth. Even if you believe life begins at conception, using the term "baby" is just for emotional appeal, and is disingenuous.

2) 87% of all abortions are done in the first 12 weeks. In other words, most were done when the foetuses were just a few cells. I, personally, do not consider that life.

3) Banning abortion is foolhearty and will not lower the number of unwanted pregnancies. Women will not stop getting abortions just because it is illegal. They will find a way, and that is just going to cause more problems with back-alley abortions. We have to move forward, not backward.

4) If you do not want an abortion, don't get one. Let the women make the choice. We should not be passing laws for or against something we cannot possibly understand, and this is coming from a guy.

5) To force a women to carry a foetus to term from a rape or incest is absolutely sickening to me. People that actually believe that would probably be happier living in the Middle East.

6) Pro-Lifers really don't care about what happens to the foetus after it is born. They could care less what happens to the baby. Otherwise they would be complaining and advocating fixing the overloaded and underfunded foster homes, adoption, and orphanages. Do they? No. Are they out there adopting these children that they want to force to term? No. Now THAT is sickening.

7) Almost all pro-choicers don't like abortion, but we view it as a necessary evil in todays world.

Note: I am NOT advocating abortion. I hate it as much as the next person; however, I believe it is up to the woman to make the choice, NOT the government.
Wow! It can't be said any better then that! All the alleged pro-lifers should take note of point 6 and prove it wrong - someday, when you get around to it.

as someone who is very pro-life, I do agree with point 6 as mentioned above...I can sit and complain about how much I disagree with and how much abortion sickens me, but until I try to fix the orphanges and such I'm not doing any good. I do disagree about the "are they adopting them? No" part, because he just doesn't know who is adopting children...I do plan on adopting, hopefully my husband and I will be able to, (I've heard it costs alot and altho we do well, we can't afford to adopt anywhere in the near future).

I disagree with the rest of his post..but I do agree with that point.

And this includes cases of rape and incest.

John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." If it comes down to the choice between the mother and the child, the mother should lay down her life for the child. The child can be adopted and the mother has already lived into adulthood, but the baby's life can never, ever be re-created. :preach:

That's great CrystalBrooke. Are you planning to adopt an American baby or go outside? You'll find adopting American babies is much more difficult and expensive. I hope you and your husband find the right baby for you. As an adoptee, it can be the best thing ever.

Typical pro-life post, people who think a fetus is a human will eat it up, but it means nothing to anyone who does not already agree. Personally I find it sick to even compare the genocide of people who had lives, friends, families, dreams, goals, and thoughts with lumps of cells that never really existed in the first place.

So... you believe that when dad rapes his daughter and impregnates her, that God intended for that to happen?

i believe the pro-life stand on that issue would be, that God didn't intend for that to happen, that was someone sinning and disobeying God's plan for their life(the dad that is) but that God can turn that bad thing into a good thing(as in the baby growing up a good and important person) if given the chance of life
