Jesus, then the Apostles. Other than that, I have always respected Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, one the most brilliant military commanders in history. I have a thing for British military history, very interesting stuff and he has always stood out.

Ahh someone who knows the man by name rather than title. I suggest a quiz, for all my remaining blessings as prize, can you tell me his origional family name, before the change to Wellesley?

Mine is Abraham Lincoln. He was a good leader, and put up with alot of **** from the confederates, and kept the country from completely falling apart. He delt with the death of his son, while still doing his job. He was awsome. <><

Civilian - Lt. Col. Joshua Chamberlain, whose courage and intelligence and honor won the Battle of Gettysburg! He was a devout Christian! Info on Chamberlain

Joshua L. Chamberlain is perhaps most widely known for his role in holding the Federal position on Little Round Top during the Battle of Gettysburg. But before the war would end, the unassuming college professor from Maine would contribute much more than that.

Entering the Union army as a lieutenant colonel, Chamberlain would serve in more than 20 engagements, be wounded six times, and finish his service breveted Major General. His final honor would come when General Ulysses S. Grant designated him to receive the first flag of surrender at Appomattox Court House. The defeated Confederate troops, under the command of General John B. Gordon, anticipated the ultimate humiliation. Instead, they were met with honor and respect. For this, Gordon remembered Chamberlain in his memoirs as "one of the knightliest soldiers of the Federal Army."

Biblical - Paul whose life was turned around and who NEVER lost his focus!

Not neccessarily heros in my eyes (with three notable expections), but some historical figues that I esteem are:

General Robert E. Lee-for defending his home
President Jefferson Davis-for standing up for states' rights
General George S. Patton, Jr.-can't pinpoint exactly why, but I just like the man.
Saint Patrick of Ireland-he brought Christianity to the Emerald Isle, and I'm part Irish
Napoleon Bonaparte-rose from somewhat humble beginnings to become the French Emperor
JFK, RFK-fought for civil rights
LBJ-he's a Texan who pushed for civil rights :)
President Ronald Wilson Reagan-I cannot begin to describe the immense respect I have for this man-I grew up in the 80's and I associate that period with great happiness. I associate the happiness with President Reagan and his administration.

Jesus Christ-the ultimate hero IMO
Greg Louganis-for writing his autobiography-an immensely important work that touched my life in a very profound way. He is my hero in every sense of the word
Sir Elton John-not afraid of what people think about his sexuality-he has a very quick wit about him too LOL A hero in my eyes as well.

Not in any order, and not a complete list, but these are some of the people who fascinate me....
1. Hank Williams Sr. - his life was the inspiration for the pain in the music he left behind and has become the very lifeblood of country music.
2. Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, Nathan Bedford Forrest, Belle Boyd, John S. Mosby, (just to name a few!) and the rest of the Southern people, a proud and independent people who bravely fought to protect their homeland after invasion.
3. Florence Nightengale and Mother Teresa and people like them who have dedicated their lives to caring for others.
4. Elvis - my impression of him is that he had a good and kind heart and just got tangled up in "all those things that does a boy who wants to sing no good".
5. All those who have and still are suffering and dying for their beliefs and ideals - to believe so strongly that you are willing to die before giving up, that's a confident dedication that I completely respect.

I'm a hopeless romantic at heart, can ya tell? ;)
