...Rosa Luxemburg? Why would you list Luxemburg? She sucked. All she did was preach generic revolutionary marxism, and ride on the coattails of Karl Liebknecht. Not to mention she got ganked by a follow SPD member...

I find it funny how you made a list of Communist/Socialist/Marist, but excluded Marx...

I have quite a few.

Joan of Arc- She was the youngest person to ever lead the army of an entire nation. She had courage and strength. I dont know if God spoke to her, but I do admire her.

Socrates- He used logic and reason to examine the world around him. He defied convention and examined everything in life with a philisophical magnifying glass. He questioned everything and thought no subject was too sensitive to debate. His questioning atitude earned him execution by the authorities in Athens. He was charged with corrupting the youth of society and sentenced to death by drinking poison hemlock.

Michael Collins- Leader of the Irish Revolution against Britan. He was the Minister for Finance in the Irish Republic, but took it uppon himself to free Ireland from Britan's grip. He founded the IRA (Irish Republican Army) and used it for terrorism and anti-government activites towards the British. He died August of 1922 from assassination.

Joseph Stalin- Иосиф Виссарионович Сталин, Stalin was not the kindest leader, but he ruled with efficency. He drove the Soviet Union into a world power in just a few years. He was a brilliant man, but as he gained more and more power, it twisted his mind.

Alexander the Great- By age 30, he had conquerd the entire known world. An accomplishment that no one has rivaled before or since. He was a briliant military tactician, often out-maneuvering larger armies with his own much smallery army and achieving victory. Alexander's mother, Epirote, was rumored to be a sorceress of great power and his father Zeus himself. He died at 32 from a mysterious illness

Cladius- The Roman emperor Cladius walked with a limp, stuttered, and had an un-naturally high and shrill voice. Cladius was a humiliation to his entire family, he was regularly and harshly teased by all around him. Guests at dinner parties delighted at pelting him with food, if he fell asleep, they would put his slippers on his hands and roar with laughter when Cladius awoke, rubbing his face with his shoes. But after Caligula's murder, Cladius became Emperor at the behest of others in the government with a desire for an emperor that could be easily manipulated. Cladius proved to be a first rate emperor, he ruled with justice and kindness. He passed laws protecting sick slaves, increased women's priveleges, and under Cladius' reign, the Roman Legions finally claimed control of Britania. He died in 54 BC of poor health

Ben Franklin- Ben Franklin was an all around bad-ass. He was a Freemason, a member of the Hellfire Club for a time, he was sarcastic, sharp-witted, practical, logical, and had a great sense of humor. He was a huge force in beginning the Open Source Movement, he didnt patent his inventions. He loved debating things that no one else wanted to, he was a revolutionary. How can you not like him :)

Well, no man is free from the burdens of society, he married and divorced twice. His third wife was a raging (Fill in the blank) who was executed at Cladius' order for plotting to take over. His 4th wife, Agripina, gave birth to the tyrant Nero.

My favorite historical hero is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

He lived during the time when India was under the tyrannical rule of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The Maratha Fury was ignited by the domination of Islam in all forms of government, and the diminitive social stature of the Hindus. It was a revolution to bring rule back to the natives started by Chhatrapati Shivaji.

Shivaji Bhosle (b.1627-d.1680) was the only son of Shahaji Bhosle's influential wife Jijabai. Early in his childhood, Shahaji sent him to Pune along with his mother under the care of Dadoji Konddev, an able minister. Shahaji was a brilliant general who switched from Adil Shah of Bijapur to Nijam Shah of Ahmednagar to the Moghuls many times during his career. He used to have an army of his own and at one point had declared himself to be a king. During Shivaji's childhood, Dadoji (d. 1650), alongwith men handpicked by Shahaji, managed a few forts and a piece of land in the hilly Deccan which were given to him by Shahaji. At that time, India was under control of the four Muslim powers Adil Shahi, Nijam Shahi, Golkonda Empire and the Moghuls who were ever eager to fight among themselves. The state of the common man, in particular the Hindus as a community, was pathetic and humiliating. On this background, 18 year old Shivaji and his faithfuls took the oath at Rohedeshwar Temple to establish a 'Nation of the Natives' which Shivaji maintained was the 'Will of the Providence'. In his next 35 years he lived an epic which thrilled the imagination of his friends and foes alike.

On June 6, 1674 Shivaji was coronated a soverein king. India was under the juggernaut of foreigners for at least 3 centuries. The belief that only a Muslim ruler from Delhi/Bijapur/Ahmednagar/Golkonda was given the right to rule was widespread and the common man had come to accept and live with it. Shivaji's coronation and its background gave Hindus all over India the assurance that they too were entiled to a free and fair life, and the confidence that if they were willing to fight it out, it could be theirs. His administration seems to have been centralised and quite efficient with a cabinet of 8 ministers looking after well defined departments.

Considering the sagacity, originality and ability to execute hazardous operations putting his own life at stake, it is not too much to say that Shivaji belongs to the highest bracket of the generals the world has seen and stakes a very strong claim to the title of the Greatest World Hero. Even then, his greatest achievement is that he succeeded in building an empire which was looked upon by his people as their Nation for generations to come.

I liked Engels more than Marx :p
And I agree with Rosa Luxemburg who fought for communism without dictatorship, and she was a revolutionairy woman with prominence in a time when many nations did not even allow women to vote.

Karl Barth and Hans Asmussen. Barth, a Reformed theologian, and Asmussen, a Lutheran theologian, drafted the Barmen Declaration, a call to resist the theological claims of the Nazi state and its "German Christian" movement. The "German Christians" set Hitler as the lord of the Church, named him a prophet, and considered Aryan racial consciousness to be a source of revelation, next to the Bible. The Declaration was adopted by the "Confessing Church" in 1934. It reads:

In view of the errors of the “German Christians” and of the present Reich Church Administration, which are ravaging the Church and at the same time also shattering the unity of the German Evangelical Church, we confess the following evangelical truths:

1. “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

“Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold through the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved.” John 10:1,9

Jesus Christ, as he is attested to us in Holy Scripture, is the one Word of God whom we have to hear, and whom we have to trust and obey in life and in death.

We reject the false doctrine that the Church could and should recognize as a source of its proclamation, beyond and besides this one Word of God, yet other events, powers, historic figures and truths as God’s revelation.

2. “Jesus Christ has been made wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption for us by God.” 1 Cor. 1:30

As Jesus Christ is God’s comforting pronouncement of the forgiveness of all our sins, so, with equal seriousness, he is also God’s vigorous announcement of his claim upon our whole life. Through him there comes to us joyful liberation from the godless ties of this world for free, grateful service to his creatures.

We reject the false doctrine that there could be areas of our life in which we would not belong to Jesus Christ but to other lords, areas in which we would not need justification and sanctification through him.

3. “Let us, however, speak the truth in love, and in every respect grow into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body is joined together.” Eph. 4:15-16

The Christian Church is the community of brethren in which, in Word and Sacrament, through the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ acts in the present as Lord. With both its faith and its obedience, with both its message and its order, it has to testify in the midst of the sinful world, as the Church of pardoned sinners, that it belongs to him alone and lives and may live by his comfort and under his direction alone, in expectation of his appearing.

We reject the false doctrine that the Church could have permission to hand over the form of its message and of its order to whatever it itself might wish or to the vicissitudes of the prevailing ideological and political convictions of the day.

4. “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. It will not be so among you; but whoever wishes to have authority over you must be your servant.” Matt. 20:25-26

The various offices in the Church do not provide a basis for some to exercise authority over others but for the ministry [lit., “service”] with which the whole community has been entrusted and charged to be carried out.

We reject the false doctrine that, apart from this ministry, the Church could, and could have permission to, give itself or allow itself to be given special leaders [Führer] vested with ruling authority.

5. “Fear God. Honor the Emperor.” 1 Pet. 2:17

Scripture tells us that by divine appointment the State, in this still unredeemed world in which also the Church is situated, has the task of maintaining justice and peace, so far as human discernment and human ability make this possible, by means of the threat and use of force. The Church acknowledges with gratitude and reverence toward God the benefit of this, his appointment. It draws attention to God’s Dominion [Reich], God’s commandment and justice, and with these the responsibility of those who rule and those who are ruled. It trusts and obeys the power of the Word, by which God upholds all things.

We reject the false doctrine that beyond its special commission the State should and could become the sole and total order of human life and so fulfill the vocation of the Church as well.

We reject the false doctrine that beyond its special commission the Church should and could take on the nature, tasks and dignity which belong to the State and thus become itself an organ of the State.

6. “See, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matt. 28:20 “God’s Word is not fettered.” 2 Tim. 2:9

The Church’s commission, which is the foundation of its freedom, consists in this: in Christ’s stead, and so in the service of his own Word and work, to deliver all people, through preaching and sacrament, the message of the free grace of God.

We reject the false doctrine that with human vainglory the Church could place the Word and work of the Lord in the service of self-chosen desires, purposes and plans.

The Confessing Synod of the German Evangelical Church declares that it sees in the acknowledgment of these truths and in the rejection of these errors the indispensable theological basis of the German Evangelical Church as a confederation of Confessing Churches. It calls upon all who can stand in solidarity with its Declaration to be mindful of these theological findings in all their decisions concerning Church and State. It appeals to all concerned to return to unity in faith, hope and love.

Verbum Dei manet in aeternum.
The Word of God will last for ever.

As well, not to doubt Lincoln's heart, but there are many accounts (by your own historians once more) that one of Lincoln's primary reason for passing the anti-slavery bill when he did, was to use it against the South.

There are more than enough reasons to doubt Lincoln's heart, but I will not list them here. Anyway, what many people today don't know is that Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in the South, not the North. And actually, it didn't exactly free the slaves. That would require a constitutional amendment, and Lincoln knew that.
