They believe we pre-existed as God's spirit children before birth.

From mormon.org: Heavenly Father created your spirit, and you lived with Him as a spirit before you received your physical body and were born on earth. This period is called pre-earth life or premortal life.

That essentially our life on earth is giving us a chance to reach a higher plane of existence becoming gods.

From mormon.org: You came to earth to receive a body and to gain knowledge and experience to help you become more like your Heavenly Father.
You have to be married to get to the highest plane in heaven but everyone enters the spirit world at some plane (if you do good in live, not even having to be saved you get somewhere better than someone that does bad).
From mormon.org: Those who choose not to follow our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will receive a reward according to what they have done in this life, but they will not enjoy the glory of living in the presence of God.

It's essentially twisting the beauty of Christianity. It is also not Biblically sound, so most Christians do not consider Mormon to be Christian.

Mormons are a number of churches which trace their history back to the "Restoration" of the church at the hands of the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr. He had published The Book of Mormon which is reputed to be a work of scripture describing ancient Jewish and Christian communities in the New World.

The various churches of this movement have a very wide range of beliefs and practices.

Apparently Joseph Smith forgot about this verse:

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!

Joseph Smith dabbled in the occult and used seeing stones to interpret the so-called tablets of Moroni. Who can say it wasn't the devil working through those "seeing stones" to create a religion based on a false salvation.

Who can say there really were "seeing stones" at all? The man was a scam artist.

Mormonism is a cult because they don't believe in the basics of christianity. For example, they need joseph smith's approval and Jesus's to get to heaven; they think that everyone who ever existed will go to heaven eventually. I only mentioned a couple things out of hundreds.

Mormons claim that they believe in salvation by grace through faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ. Sounds pretty Biblical! But is it real?

When speaking to Mormons about salvation, it’s especially important to clarify terms from the very outset. Mormons distinguish between two types of salvation — a stance entirely different from what the Bible reveals.

When Mormons talk about salvation by grace, they’re referring to what they themselves call “general salvation.” By this, Mormons mean that everybody is going to be resurrected, after which they will be judged according to their works. In other words, everybody gets an entrance pass to God’s courtroom, but once inside, they’re on their own! This, of course, adds up to nothing more than salvation by works.

Another kind of salvation recognized by Mormons is what’s called “individual” or “full salvation.” This type of salvation is available only to Mormons who have steadfastly obeyed the laws and ordinances of the Mormon church. Well, you know what this means — once again, we end up with the doctrine of salvation by works. In this case, we’re talking about the reward being an open path to “exaltation” or godhood. Well, because Mormons strive to become gods and goddesses, and because they regard “individual salvation” as the only way to reach their goal, they believe that merely attaining “general salvation” is virtually equivalent to damnation.

What does the Bible have to say? We read in Titus 3:5 that salvation comes from God’s mercy and not from our righteousness, as Romans 11:6 states: “If it were [by works], grace would no longer be grace.” Additionally, Scripture doesn’t distinguish between two types of salvation; it offers only one (cf. Isa. 25:9; John 5:24; Acts 2:21; Rom. 8:1; 10:9). And while Mormons claim that good works are necessary for salvation, Ephesians 2:8-10 declares just the opposite; namely, that good works result from being saved by grace: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it’s the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast.” The bottom line is this — Mormonism’s idea of salvation makes a mockery of God’s grace and the atoning death of Jesus Christ.

Jesus saved them from what? That's the real core of the matter. You all get placed in a kingdom in heaven no matter what to them. Just the bottom one is for those who didn't believe until after they died and they don't get to be with God.

Where do the Mormons claim that Joseph Smith's approval is needed for salvation.

Found this online:

Brigham Young preached, "If I ever pass into heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of Prophet Joseph" (JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, vol. 8, p. 224).

Found this as well from a Mormon site:

Christ is our judge. But he has also called some people to play a role in judging and reigning over others. For example, Christ told the Apostles that they would sit as judges over the House of Israel (Matt. 19:28). The Bible further records that the Saints would also sit as judges (1 Cor. 6:2,3; Rev. 20:4). Joseph Smith, as the chief apostle of this dispensation, has a similar privilege. Christ's chosen leaders participate in the judgment in some way - and thus those in this dispensation of the Gospel have some accountability to Joseph Smith as well, who holds the keys of this kingdom now as Peter did of old. (Those old stories about people meeting Peter at the Pearly Gates derived from this concept, no doubt.) When Brigham Young said that no one would get into heaven without Joseph's approval, I understand that he is saying that Joseph will play an apostolic role in the judgment and that those of this dispensation will be accountable for how they received or rejected the powerful testimony that Joseph offered, crowned with the Book of Mormon and sealed with his own blood. Ultimately all judgment and authority is committed to the Son and the Father, but portions of it are delegated to men through the Priesthood. Joseph's role, like those of the early Apostles, is clearly subordinate to that of the Son in this matter - and in any other matter, as well.
